Lavergne got their bats going early against Coffee County in the Border Battle softball tournament on Friday afternoon. Lavergne held a 5-1 lead after just 2 ½ innings. Coffee County fought back with 2 runs in the third on a homerun by Anna Spellings. Coffee County playing without a few of its starting players due to Friday night’s prom managed to tie the game in the 4th at 5-5. Due to the time limit the game would end with scored tied. Spellings led the hitting attack knocking in 3 runs.
Greenbrier was the next opponent for Coffee County in the Border Battle in Fayetteville. Greenbrier scored two runs in first and that lead would hold up for the 2-1 win. Kaylee Skipper had two hits and an RBI for Coffee County.
The loss dropped the Lady Raiders to 16-9-1 on the season.
The Coffee County High School softball team played Richland on Saturday morning. After leading 2-0 the Lady Raiders could not hold off Richland. Tied at two going into the 7th Coffee County scored twice but a 3-run homer by Richland gave them the 5-4 win. Haley Hinshaw and Kaylee Skipper had two hits each for the Lady Raiders.
An ace performance by Brianna Jones led the Coffee County Central Lady Raiders to a 4-0 win over Stewarts Creek on Saturday.
Brianna got the win for the Lady Raiders thanks to 11 strikeouts and allowing just one hit.
The players that did not play on Friday or Saturday morning due to the prom were back with the team on Saturday afternoon.
Shelby Giles and Bethany Baker had 2 hits and an RBI each.
In Coffee County’s final game of the Border Battle the Lady Raiders fell to Dickson County 2-0. Despite giving up no earned runs Brianna Jones took the tough luck loss.
Coffee County at 17-11-1 on the season will play at Tullahoma on Monday night at 7pm. The game will be broadcast live on Thunder Radio.
The Westwood Rockets baseball season came to a close in the elimination bracket of the Duck River Valley Conference Tournament on Friday night. The Rockets dropped a heartbreaking 14 to 5 decision to Moore County to close out Tyrell Campbell’s first season at the helm of the Rocket program. Carlos Medina finished his Rocket career going 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Hunter Courtoy was 2 for 4 and Chance Lowery was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.
