Coffee Middle Opens Season with Split at West Tullahoma

The Coffee County Middle School basketball teams opened their season on Monday at West Middle School in Tullahoma. In a doubleheader that you heard on Thunder Radio as part of the 1st National Bank Hometown sports series; the girls lost an overtime heart-breaker while the boys powered out to a big win.
In a girls’ game marked by missed shots, it was a West Tullahoma 3 pointer in overtime which dropped Coffee County 22 to 21 to the Lady Bobcats. The Lady Raiders had 2 excellent opportunities in the final minute but could not get a 16 footer to fall at the buzzer in the loss. Bella Vinson hit every Coffee County field goal as she finished with 18 points. Kylie Phillips finished with 2 free throws and Keri Munn added a free throw.

The Red Raiders fell behind by 7 points in the 1st half after a 7-0 Bobcat run but held West to 2 points in the second half in the 28 to 18 win. Kyle Farless led Coffee County in scoring with 16 points. Trenton Scrivnor added 8 points for the Red Raiders.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will open play in the Woodbury Border Wars tournament on Tuesday night at Woodbury Grammar School. The girls’ game will tip off at 7 with the boys to follow.
