The Coffee County Middle School basketball team welcomed Cannon County to the CCMS gym on Monday in their final non-conference game of the year. The Lady Raiders got fast starts in each half to claim a 32 to 29 win. The Red Raiders also got off to a fast start in the 1st quarter but needed a last second shot by Hayden Garr to capture a 45 to 43 win.
The Lady Raiders opened the game on a 7 to 0 run and scored 4 points in the first 20 seconds of the second half to stake themselves to a pair of crucial leads. Cannon County was able to fight back both times, but the Lady Raiders were able to weather the Lady Lions charges. Chloe Gannon led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 15 points. Olivia Vinson added 11 points. The win improves the Lady Raiders record to 11 and 5 on the year.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an 11 to 3 lead in the first quarter before foul trouble allowed Cannon County to take a 5 point lead into the half. In the second half, Coffee Middle went on a 10 to 2 run to take a 32 to 31 lead. After a back and forth 4th quarter, Garr hit a 12 foot jump shot at the buzzer to give the Red Raiders the dramatic win. Jacob Holder led Coffee County in scoring with 15 points. Dayne Crosslin finished with 12 points while Garr added 8.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will have their final home game of the year of Thursday night as they welcome East Tullahoma to the CCMS Gym for 8th Grade Night. The 8th Grade festivities will take place between the girls’ and the boys’ game.
