28 former players along with former coaches Jeff Breeden and Dennis Weaver at Alumni Night... By Barry West
In an 11 inning classic Coffee Co. got by Riverdale Wednesday night 2-1 on Alumni Night for the Lady Raiders. 28 former Lady Raiders and a huge crowd saw a fantastic game. Riverdale scored one in the first and held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the 6th. Bricen Hunt came up with a big RBI single to tie the game. The game would move into the 10th inning which means the international tie-breaker. The batter that makes the last out in the previous inning starts the next inning at 2nd base with no outs. Riverdale got a runner to 3rd and hard hit ball sent the runner home but 1st baseman Niki Campbell made a diving play and threw the ball home to get the Lady Warrior trying to score. In the bottom of the 11th Chelsea Howell was at 3rd with Karlie Benedict at the plate. Benedict hit a Rachel Albritton pitch up the middle. Riverdale’s 2nd baseman reached as far as she could as the ball went off the tip end of her glove scoring Howell with the winning run. Benedict and Campbell were named Co-Gateway Tire Players of the Game. Coffee Co. will host the District 6-AAA tournament beginning Friday with the Lady Raiders playing Saturday night at 7pm.
