Local Teenager Passes Away from injuries after Swimming Incident

16 year-old Ryan Schafer from Coffee County who was recently involved in a swimming incident at Grundy Lakes State Park in Tracy City, succumbed to his injuries over the weekend. According to Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum, around 3:30pm on Sept. 3 Schafer went swimming in the lake and went under the water and when he didn’t rise back up a family member swam out to the young swimmer. Emerald Ash Borer Causing Major Problems

Coffee County is one of 59 Tennessee counties in which there is a quarantine for Emerald Ash Borers. The list of quarantined areas in the state is growing due to the invasive pest targeting ash trees. The prohibition on the movement of ash trees and ash tree products has expanded to neighboring Bedford, Cannon, Rutherford and DeKalb counties, as well as Lincoln, Van Buren, Grundy, Moore, Sequatchie, and Warren. A local realtor is warning potential renters of a scam that is making the rounds in the area. According to Weichert Realtors—Joe Orr, someone is taking the postings of the firm’s rental properties posting them on another web site. When a potential renter contacts the site about renting property, they are told to send a deposit to an address and then a key will be mailed to the potential renter. But the key is never mailed. 12 year-old Found Guilty of Reckless Homicide

On December 11 of last year, 11-year-old Sienna Dusk Owens was shot and killed by a 12 year-old boy in Franklin County. After hearing evidence in Franklin County Juvenile Court on Friday, Judge Thomas Faris found the boy guilty of the charge of reckless homicide. According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chris Guess, Sienna, of Decherd, suffered a gun-shot wound to her upper back from a 20-gauge shot-gun at the boy’s home. Update on the Murder of a Former Tullahoma Woman

A Lebanon man who is accused of murdering a former Tullahoma woman and dumping her body has been bound over to the Williamson County Grand Jury. Thomas Blake Bruner, 20, of Lebanon was arrested Aug. 26 for the murder of Britney Cole, 21 formerly of Tullahoma. Her body was found the week before about 70 feet into a wooded area in the Bethesda and College Grove area of Williamson County.
