Beware of Real Estate Scam

A local realtor is warning potential renters of a scam that is making the rounds in the area.
According to Weichert Realtors—Joe Orr, someone is taking the postings of the firm’s rental properties posting them on another web site.
When a potential renter contacts the site about renting property, they are told to send a deposit to an address and then a key will be mailed to the potential renter. But the key is never mailed.
Sydney Burfitt of the real estate firm says that is not how they operate.
According to the real estate agency representative, one person who was told to send a deposit provided a telephone number of the scammer they spoke with and that information has been turned over to the Tullahoma Police Department.
If anyone has been victimized by this scam they need to contact the police department. (Tullahoma News)
