Deadline to Register to Vote for President is Oct. 11
If you are not registered to vote, Coffee County Election Administrator Vernita Davis reminds residents that next Tuesday, October 11th, is the deadline for registering to vote in the November 8th presidential election. People without a driver’s license will also need more time to obtain a voter ID card. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a missing person report. Johnny Waid, 21, from Shelbyville, TN. was last seen on October 1st, 2016. Johnny is 5’6” approximately 150 lbs and was last seen wearing a black North Face jacket, black t-shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes. Open House is Friday at New Coffee County Communications Center
An open house will be held on Friday at the new Coffee County Communications Center on Jack Welch Drive. The event will take place from 1-3pm. The center is located just off State Route 55 between Manchester and Tullahoma. Adult Education Classes to be offered to Inmates at the Coffee County Jail
Inmates at the Coffee County jail now have the opportunity to work their way towards gaining a better job by taking a High School Equivalency Test. The classes will be taught by Linda Maddox, who also handles those duties in Bedford County as well. Nearly 5,000 people ages 18-64 in Coffee County do not have a high school education or the equivalent, according to the Tennessee Division of Adult Education. Court Date set for Parent of a boy who Fatally Shot Schoolmate
A court date has been set for a woman who is a parent of a teen who fatally shot a schoolmate. Jennifer Ann Amacher of Tullahoma, will go before a judge on Dec. 15. She is charged with reckless endangerment. Last December, Amacher was at the 127 Honey Lane, Estill Springs resident, when her 12 year old son shot and killed 11 year old Sienna Dusk Owens. Amacher is defended by Bobby Peters. A discussion date has been set for Dec. 6 at which time a plea deal could be struck between Amacher’s lawyers and the District Attorney. Should...

Tractor Trailer Overturns on Viaduct in Tullahoma
A tractor trailer truck trying to make the turn at the viaduct off of Jackson Street in Tullahoma overturned Tuesday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. According to the Tullahoma Police Department, the truck which was hauling 40,000 lbs. of wood appeared to have had a “blow out” in a left rear tire causing the truck to overturn. Because of the wood, oil leak and diesel leak, the east bound lane of East Carroll over the viaduct was closed off for several hours while emergency personnel worked to upright the truck and clean up the spill. Cannon County Woman charged with TennCare Fraud
A Cannon County woman is charged with TennCare fraud in nearby Rutherford County in a case involving prescription drugs. The Office of Inspector General has announced the arrest of April Smotherman, 43, of Woodbury. She is charged with five counts of TennCare fraud relating to doctor shopping, which involves going to multiple doctors in a short period of time to obtain prescription drugs. Smotherman is accused of doctor shopping for the painkiller Hydrocodone.
