6/18/14 —— Kenneth A. Thompson Sr.
Kenneth A. Thompson Sr., of Tullahoma, passed this life on Wednesday, June 18th, 2014 at Harton Regional Medical Center at the age of 65.
Mr. Thompson was born in Franklin County, TN to the late George Haney and Velvie Garner and was a self-employed painter during his life.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Kathy Thompson of Tullahoma; six children, Kenneth Thompson Jr. and his wife Debra of McMinnville, Jeremy Stevens and his wife Toni of Tullahoma, Jami Thompson of Cowan, Rebecca Crutchfield and her husband Derrick of Tullahoma, Eric Thompson and his wife Katrina of Tullahoma, and Brittany Tatum and her husband Josh of Tullahoma; several brothers and sisters; and 15 grandchildren, Keith, Josh, Jessica, Kirsten, Cayla, Nick, Tyce, Michael, T.J., Matthew, Micah, Skylar, Malik, Alexis, and Renee’.
6/24/14 —– Evelyn Smith Duke
Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Smith Duke, age 81 of Manchester will be conducted at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, Graveside at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Dr. Brenton Cox officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 11 am until 1 m at Manchester Funeral Home.
Mrs. Duke passed this life on Friday, June 20 at the Manchester Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Duke was born in Carthage, Tennessee the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Katherine Kemp Smith.
She was retired from PCA in Manchester where she was a secretary. Mrs. Duke was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manchester and loved to read and have a good debate.

6/23/14 —- Shirley A. Powell
SHIRLEY ANN POWELL, age 76, of Sewanee, Tenn., departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 20, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted family and friends.
She was born in Sherwood, Tenn. to the late Elijah and Nancy Simmons Shetters.
She was employed for many years as a Librarian working in Texas and Florida. She was a devout Christian Lady and member of the Midway Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and helped out wherever she was needed. Ms. Powell was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Irvine Lee Powell, sisters; Nancy Shetters, Edith Sons, brothers; Roosevelt, Mac and Lij Shetters.
She is survived by her sons; Jamie Terrell of Sewanee, Kevin Terrell of Christmas, Fla. and daughter, Patricia Powell of Cowan, sisters; Rose Robinson, of Winter Haven, Fla., Jean Taylor of Rainsville, Ala., Mary Johnson of Winchester, Fannie Swaim of Gainesville, Ga., Nan Hill of Pelham, Tenn., Georgie Maxwell, of North Carolina, brothers, Bill Shetters of Boaz, Ala., and Mike Shetters of Kissimmee, Fla., best friend and caregiver, Shirley Bromberg of Midway. 8-grandchildren, 5-great-grandchildren and 2-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Ms. Powell will be held from 12:00 Noon until Service time at 3:00 on Monday, June 23, 2014 in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Bro. Thomas George, officiating.
Interment will follow in Cowan Montgomery Cemetery.

6/22/14 — Thomas Price Saine
Thomas Price Saine, 72, passed away on December 5, 2013. He was born on
March 8, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York to Evelyn Meadows Saine and Clarence
Price Saine. He is survived by sons, Peter and Jeremy Saine, sisters, Susan
Dignam and Martha Saine, and by brother, Robert Saine. He began his career
at Yale, his undergraduate and graduate alma mater, where he taught as
assistant and associate professor of German from 1969-1975. After two terms
as visiting professor at the University of Cincinnati, Saine moved to the
University of California, Irvine. At UCI, he spent a long career as as
internationally known scholar of 18th Century German literature and culture,
serving also as chair of the German Department from 1976 to 1987. He was
one of the founders of the now well-established Geothe Society of North
America and the founding editor of the Goethe Yearbook, an important venue
for Eighteenth Century Studies, which he edited from 1982-1999. Author of
numerous books and articles and recipient of distinguished grants and many
accolades, he was a strong advocate for German Studies in the United States
and an accomplished practitioner of that discipline. In his retirement, he
moved to Plano, TX, to be near his family members, where he spent his time
trying out recipes and taking care of his three Scottish terriers. He will
be dearly missed, but we will always be grateful for the wisdom and kindness
he always had to share with us, and the boyish spark he never lost.
Services will be held at Manchester Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June
22, 2014.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon until service time.

6/22/14 — Evelyn Meadows Saine
Evelyn Meadows Saine, 98, passed away May 7, 2014. She was born on November
3, 1915 in Manchester, TN to Joseph L. and Pearl C. Meadows. She is
preceded in death by her husband, C. Price Saine, son, Thomas P. Saine,
brothers, Leon and Charles Meadows and sister, Kathryn M. Adams. She is
survived by daughter, Susan S. Dignam and husband David, and grandsons,
Peter and Jeremy Saine. Evelyn was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State
Teachers College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certificate.
She taught high school chemistry for 18 years, the last school being J.J.
Pearce in Richardson, Texas. Evelyn and her husband, Price, retired and
moved back to Manchester in 1976. She enjoyed retirement with her different
projects such as quilting, knitting, and canning produce from their large
garden. She also enjoyed trips to many countries all over the world.
Evelyn moved to Dallas in 1998 to be closer to her family. She lived at
Presbyterian Village North and made many new friends there. She continued
her knitting and also made stuffed toys that were given to patients at
Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. She will be dearly missed but we will
always remember and be comforted by the memories of the many happy and
loving moments we share with her.
Visitation will be held from 12-2 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Manchester
Funeral Home and funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will be
in the Manchester City Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart
Association.

Garry Frank Trussell, age 63 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed away on June 16, 2014 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. He was a retired Technical Sergeant with the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Leon Trussell and Blanche Wright Trussell; paternal grandparents, Robert Lee Trussell and Martha Eller Trussell; maternal grandparents, Frank Wright and Lynda Wright; brothers, Bruce Trussell and Jerry Leon Trussell; and sister, Theresa Wimberly. He is survived by his wife, Sallie Charlene Trussell of Hillsboro, TN; children, Nathan L. Trussell and Jacqueline D. Trussell and their mother Dianna Trussell all of Hillsboro, TN; six grandchildren, Kristen R. Smith, Stephanie D. Trussell, Olivia N. Trussell, Brandon L. Trussell, Shelby L. Trussell and Baylee M. Trussell; one great-grandchild, Ayden L. 6/21/14 —- Jerry Levester Bryant Sr.
Mr. Jerry Levester Bryant Sr., age 58 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2013 at 2 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Young officiating.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, June 21, 2013 from 12 PM until service time at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.
A native of Montgomery County, TN, he was the son of the late Jerry B. Stacker and Margaret Outlaw-Bryant.
Jerry was a faithful member of Blessed Hope Pentecostal Church where he played the bass guitar. He was a devoted Christian man who was loved by many. In his early years he was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He then went on to work for the Federal Protective Services of Nashville. He was a man of very few words, but a man who spoke wisdom. He was a peaceful man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Karl Bryant and Jerry B. Stacker Jr.
He leaves to cherish wife, Mary Johnson-Bryant, son Jerry Bryant Jr., daughter Rochelle (Rashid) Bond (LaVergne, TN), sister Felicia Bryant (Madison, TN), brothers Dwight (Jackie) Bryant (Fayetteville, GA), Melvin (Brenda) Stacker, David (Michelle) Stacker, and Tracy Stacker all of Clarksville, TN., one grandson Tyshaun Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends.

Mr. James William Fanning, age 84 of Estill Fork, AL passed away, Monday, June 16, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11 AM at Beech Grove Methodist Church in Francisco, AL with burial to follow at Beech Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 5 PM till 8 PM at the church and Friday, from 10AM until service time at the church.
Mr. Fanning, a native of Francisco, AL was the son of the late Thomas and Biegie Sanders Fanning.
He was an auto mechanic and logging contractor. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and watching NASCAR racing. He loved horses and dogs and gathering together with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Norine Mims and two great grandchildren, Aiden Dover and Abigail Henshaw.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evia Lois Mullican Fanning of Estill Fork, AL; two sons, Michael Fanning and his wife, Carol of Section, AL and Larry Fanning of Huntland; three daughters, Debbie Shafer and her husband, Lawrence of Skyline, AL, Gail Wolfenden and her husband, Greg of Hobart, IN and Belinda Fanning and her husband, Phil of Clarksville, TN; one sister, Pauline Bradford of Huntland, TN; twenty grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren.
6/18/14 —- Joe Howard Walden
Mr. Joe Howard Walden, age 71 of Beech Grove, TN passed away, Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his sister’s residence in Calhoun, GA.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2018 at 2 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Ragsdale Cemetery in Manchester.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, June 18 from 12 PM until service time at 2 PM.
A native of Coffee County, TN, he was the son of the late Walter and Ezell Brown Walden.
He was a welder who enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Judy Dykes Walden and Dorothy Poff Walden and one son, Howard Walden.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Elaine Linebarger and her husband, Asa of Calhoun, GA and Dorothy Walden of Manchester; step-daughter, Sandy Green of Tullahoma; step-son, Ben Dykes of Manchester; two brothers, Carl Walden and his wife, Mary of Hillsboro and Charlie Walden and his wife, Larrie of Louisiana; two sisters, Brenda Perry and her husband, Robert of Calhoun, GA and Jewell Thomas and her husband, Paschal of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Elrod, age 84 of Manchester, will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Billy Robison officiating.
Burial will follow at Fredonia Cemetery in Manchester, Tennessee.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 5:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Elrod passed away Monday, June 16, 2014.
Geraldine was born November 24, 1929 in Manchester, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William A. Haggard and Mary Della (Farrar) Haggard.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Owen Elrod; five brothers; and one daughter, Teresa Diane Elrod.
Mrs. Elrod is survived by one son, Buddy Owen Elrod of McMinnville, Tennessee; one daughter, Liz Warlich and husband, Ernie, of Edmonds, Washington; two sisters, Jean Brown of Elkhart, Indiana and Ruth Peek of Manchester, Tennessee; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
