The City of Tullahoma will observe Arbor Day on National Arbor Day, Friday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the Tree Board ceremony to honor the establishment of the city’s first arboretum. The ceremony will be held at the Sunrise Rotary Disc Golf Course, where the arboretum is located (at East Park behind East Middle School).
The Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) certifies an arboretum with 30 different species of labeled trees. The area must have a significant amount of woody vegetation in tree form that is cultivated for educational, scientific or appealing purposes. It must be open to the public, the trees must be properly labeled for educational purposes and they must be properly protected and maintained.
The Sunrise Rotary Club is being awarded the Tree Board Award for the donation of the signage for the East Park Arboretum. The Noon Rotary Club is also being awarded the Tree Board Award for the 9 memorial trees they added to East Park Arboretum.
