Man Charged With Sexual Battery Involving 6 Year-Old

Few details are being released to protect the innocent, but according to Decherd Police Chief Ross Peterson, on Sunday the attempted sexual assault of a child was halted by alert patrons of a city establishment.
Peterson issued a statement to say that a man, identified as William Morgan Long, 74, arrived at the establishment and took a 6-year-old child into an empty room alone at the facility. Police say Long allegedly then attempted to sexually assault the child before a patron intervened.
Decherd Police were called and took Long into custody. He was then taken to Franklin County Jail where he was charged with sexual battery and is being held on a $275,000 bond.
Peterson went on to praise the patrons of the establishment for their quick response in protecting the child and said that Decherd’s thoughts and prayers go out to the family involved.
