Coffee County Head Coach Lee Davis said his team lacked the energy they played with the week before in a loss Friday night (Sept. 14, 2012) at home to White County.
The Raiders (0-4 overall, 0-1 District 6-AAA) fell behind 6-0 but took a slim 7-6 lead into the half. The Raider TD came on a 13-yard strike from Peyton Meeker to Jesse Brown. David Morgan’s extra point gave the Red Raiders their first lead with 0:35 left.
White County scored the winning touchdown on its opening possession of the second half. Facing a fourth and 14 on the Coffee County 39 yard line, Warrior running back Blake Lynn connected to Ben Howard at the 2 yard line. The pass was tipped by Raider defensive back Hunter Smithson, but Howard still managed to pull down the catch. White County QB Jake Young scored on the next play making the final score White County 12 to the Red Raiders 7. It was the Warriors first win of the year.
Coffee County QB Peyton Meeker finished 13 of 22 for 157 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Game Jesse Brown had over 90 yards in receiving and a touchdown.
The Raider offense struggled to gain yardage in the second half. Coffee County ended the night with just 197 yards of total offense, 53 of which came in the second half.
Coffee County (0-4 overall, 0-1 District 6-AAA) will play host to the (3-2) Independence Eagles on Friday night at Carden-Jarrell Field.
