Starting in 2017 Tennessee Voters will be allowed to Register to Vote Online
The General Assembly has passed legislation that would allow Tennesseans to register to vote online. The House on Tuesday passed a bill that the Senate had earlier approved. The measure allows Tennesseans to go online to register to vote or update their registration records. Applicants would be directed to apply on paper if their name, date of birth or other identifying information could not be confirmed with the Department of Safety. Rep. Three Charged with Theft from Hawk Hardware in Tullahoma
Three people were arrested on April 15 for taking an air compressor from Hawk Hardware on East Warren Street in Tullahoma. According to a report by Tullahoma Police Investigator Johnny Gore, Kelly R. Edwards, 32, of Manchester and Dorothy Troxler, 40, of Manchester and a juvenile were charged with the theft of the air compressor from the business. Coffee County deputies were put on alert Tuesday by Franklin County authorities to be on the lookout for a white male wearing a camo shirt and hat. The man apparently robbed the CVS Pharmacy on the Dinah Shore Boulevard in Decherd on Tuesday afternoon. TBI Releases New Crime Report
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reporting serious crime was down slightly in 2015 but homicide rates were up. The TBI compiles data from all state law enforcement agencies plus colleges and universities to create its annual report. The 2015 report was released Monday. It found that serious crimes overall in Tennessee were down by about 2 percent. Homicides, though, were up by more than 9 percent. There were 406 reported murders in 2015. Transgender Bill Put On Hold
The sponsor of the so-called transgender bathroom bill has pulled the bill for the year. Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mt. Juliet, was sponsoring the controversial bill in the House. She said Monday that the bill should be rolled until next year due to time constraints. Lynn said lawmakers do not have enough time to address some of the issues with the bill. She said Gov.
