Man Dies After Being Shot In Home
A Shelbyville man died Monday morning after being shot in his home Sunday night. Bedford County investigators say they’re working on leads. 25-year-old Joshua Clark, was able to tell Bedford County deputies two men forced their way into his home and robbed him. Bedford County Sheriff Randall Boyce said Clark wasn’t actually robbed, but the suspects took an undetermined amount of marijuana from the home, which contained a growing operation. Sisters Raise Money For Schoolmate
Jasie and Josie Willis wanted a Halloween-themed birthday party this year, but they didn’t want any presents. Instead, the sisters, ages seven and nine, wanted to raise money for six-year-old Caden Goodrich, a kindergartner at Hillsboro Elementary school. Caden was diagnosed with leukemia in June and is currently receiving treatment at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. For Jasie, a fourth grader, there’s a deeper connection. Safe On The Square Is Wednesday
Coffee County Children’s Advocacy Center is organizing the 5th Annual Safe on the Square, a safe and family friendly trick-or-treating event for children on the historic Manchester Square. This year’s event is Wednesday, October 31st from 2:30 PM-5:00 PM. Local Teacher Charged With Child Abuse
A teacher at College Street Elementary School in Manchester was booked into the Coffee County Jail Friday night on charges of child abuse. Charges are against 32-year-old Gary Wilson Hawkins who was accompanied by his attorney when he turned himself into the Coffee County Jail Friday night. According to Coffee County sheriff Steve Graves, charges were brought against the teacher after witnesses came forward describing excessive bruises on Hawkins’ young daughter. Florida Man Charged At I-24 Scales
A Florida man is being held in the Coffee County Jail under a $506,000 bond after he was arrested at the eastbound scales on I-24 in Manchester Friday morning. Oreste Jose Garcia, 51, of Miami, Fl was charged with felony theft of property, refusal for drug inspection and evading arrest. He is a federal parolee out of Florida. Teenager Attacked In Tullahoma
A 19-year-old woman was attacked Thursday morning, as she was about to enter the Kroger store on North Jackson Street. 19-year-old Nakayla Sullivan told Tullahoma Police Officer Cody Brandon that she and her 2-year-old son were attempting to enter the store when she attacked from behind and knocked to the ground. Sullivan stated that she covered her son to keep him from being injured. Sullivan told the officer that her attacker struck her in the ribs, back, arms, and face and head. Leaf Production In US One Step Closer
U.S. production of the 2013 Nissan Leaf moved one step closer to reality earlier last week. Leaf Motor production started trials at its facility in Decherd, where Nissan will start official U.S. production of the 2013 Leaf electric car’s motor production line–and its staff–are going through final production test runs before the plant commences official motor manufacturing later this year. Currently made in Japan, the Leaf’s electric motor contains around one mile of copper wiring, and takes Nissan longer to assemble than a conventional gasoline engines.
