Duck River Electric Membership Corporation Possibly Expanding

Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC), headquartered in Shelbyville, Tenn., and Mount Pleasant Power System (MPPS), serving Mount Pleasant, Tenn., have agreed to begin the feasibility study of a possible merger. In a joint announcement, representatives of each utility said this is a preliminary step with no commitment made by either party except to explore what is best for the systems and their consumers. DREMC serves 71,000 members in 16 counties of southern Middle Tennessee. The campaign, titled “IT Has To Stop,” hopes to increase awareness of human trafficking in Tennessee and beyond. Motlow State Community College will be closed from August 30 through September 1 for the Labor Day holiday, according to college officials. Arrest Made In County Burglary Cases

A Beech Grove man has been arrested and charged with multiple burglaries that have occurred in the Hillsboro and Sears Roebuck Road areas. Christopher Bly, 41, of Cherokee Lane, Beech Grove is charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of theft and three counts of vandalism. On Aug. 14 at two locations on Prairie Plains the back doors were kicked in and jewelry and lock boxes were taken from both locations. On Sunday (August 17) morning at approximately 1:34am Franklin County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to a traffic crash with injuries on Bible Crossing Road located in the Winchester area. The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Tennessee with a statewide bus tour.
