Lady Raiders Have Great Weekend
In game 2 Friday the Lady Raiders picked up an 8-6 win over GPS. Bricen Hunt was named the Gateway Tire Player of the Game as she had 3 hits, 3 RBI’s and was the winning pitcher. Julie Layne added 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.
In game 1 of 3 on Saturday Coffee Co. got a 2-run homer from Chelsea Howell in 6th inning to give the Lady Raiders a 2-1 win over Hueytown, Ala. Brianna Jones was very impressive allowing only 3 hits.
Game 2 saw Coffee Co. take on Maryville and the Lady Raiders win 4-1. The ladies hit the ball very well with 11 hits. Julie Layne, Ginny Clayborne, Karlie Benedict and Anna Spellings all with two. Nicki Campbell knocked in 2 runs. Alaina Lusk got her 2nd win in the tournament.
In Coffee Co. last game the ladies defeated East Hamilton 11-5. Chelsea Howell had 3 hits including her 2nd homer of the year and she scored 4 runs. Bricen Hunt was the winning pitcher.
Riverdale at 7-0 was named champions with Coffee Co. at 6-1 finishing in 5th place. The (11-2) Lady Raiders were to host Goodpasture today but due to an accident that took the life of Goodpasture student the game has been cancelled.
Update On Motlow Sports
Starting pitchers Roxanne Hillman (6-3) and Kayla Green (4-8) combined to allow only nine hits and one run as the Motlow Lady Bucks swept Gadsden State 3-0, 3-1 Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader played at the softball field in Moore County.
The Lady Bucks fell to Snead State 4-2 on Saturday.
In baseball on Saturday Josh Mann tossed a shutout as Motlow Bucks beat Chattanooga State 3-0 in game two Saturday in Chattanooga. The Tigers won game one 7-0.
Predators Go 1-1 In Weekend Action
After winning 4-1 over Detroit on Friday Nashville fell on Saturday at home.
Brent Seabrook scored at 8:19 of the third period, and the Chicago Blackhawks clinched a playoff berth Saturday night by beating the Nashville Predators 5-4 after blowing a 4-0 lead. Shea Weber scored twice, and Alexander Radulov and Martin Erat had a goal apiece for the Preds.
Lady Raiders Win One Of Two
Coffee County opened up play in the Lady Warriors Classic at home on Thursday against Marion County.
The visitors got started in the first with 3 runs on four hits. The Lady Raiders could never make the big comeback falling 5-2.
Ginny Clayborne hit her first homerun of the year a 2-run shot.
The bats came alive in game 2 against Scottsboro as the Lady Raiders won 10-1. Nicki Campbell led the way with 2 hits, 2 runs scored and hit a 3-run homer. Bricen Hunt was the winning pitcher.
Coffee County will play at 4pm and 8pm today against Fenton, Ill and GPS both games are at home. The 8pm will be live on Thunder Radio. On Saturday the ladies will play host to Hueytown, Ala at 9am at 5pm versus Maryville and East Hamilton at 7pm.
Raider Soccer Falls To Stars
The Coffee County boys soccer team traveled to Siegel Stars on Tuesday night and lost 2-1. The Raiders were leading at halftime thanks to a Ricky Ramirez goal (assisted by Baltazar Barrera).
David Morgan played outstanding in goal for Coffee County turning away many very good scoring opportunities.
The Raiders will play the first home match of the year Tuesday as Cumberland County comes to Manchester.
Motlow Falls In Doubleheader
The Motlow Lady Bucks didn’t have an especially good day Tuesday in Morristown, dropping a pair of contests to TCCAA rival Walters State. Fortunately they don’t have time to dwell on it since Motlow will host softball doubleheaders today, Friday, and Saturday.
Motlow (9-12, 2-4) ran into a pair of Lady Senators’ pitchers who were at the top of their game on Tuesday as Walters State (24-2, 2-0) cruised to an 11-1, 6-0 sweep. The Lady Bucks only had three hits in 12 total innings of play, with all three coming in game one including a leadoff home run from former Tullahoma Lady Cat Meghan Brayton, her second of the season.
Gadsden State visits the softball complex today. The Lady Bucks dropped a close 7-6 contest to Gadsden back on Mar. 4 at the Wallace State Tournament in Alabama.
Friday brings Hiwassee College to the Moore County campus for a noon doubleheader start. The games were originally scheduled for Mar. 16 but were cancelled due to wet field conditions. Both Gadsden State and Hiwassee are non-conference opponents.
Motlow will return to conference play on Saturday when the Roane State Lady Raiders visit for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Roane State is 11-16 overall and winless in conference play, and this will be the only meeting of the season between the two schools.
