Predators Lose Two Players For Game 3

The Nashville Predators announced Tuesday that forwards Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn have been suspended for Game 3 in the Western Conference Semifinals series against the Phoenix Coyotes. General Manager David Poile said the pair violated team rules, but did not expand on what exactly they did. The Preds will host the Coyotes Wednesday at 7pm.

Rare Inside The Park Homerun Wins It For Coffee County

An inside the park 2-run homer by Juli Layne helped propel the Coffee County Lady Raiders past the Davidson Academy Lady Bears 4-0 on Monday night in Manchester. Layne the Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Game had 2 hits, 2 RBI’s on the homer and scored one. Niki Campbell and Chelsea Howell knocked in one run each. Brianna Jones had 10 K’s boosting the Lady Raiders to their 25th win of the season.
Coffee Co. will host Baylor today.

Former Coffee County Lady Raider now Motlow Freshman second baseman Veronica Blackburn slammed a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning on Friday. Classmate Roxanne Hillman pitched seven innings of three-hit softball as the Motlow Lady Bucks ended their regular season with a 4-1 victory over Roane State.
The win propels the Lady Bucks (19-26, 5-13) into seventh place in the final Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) standings. The TCCAA/Region VII Tournament begins Sunday at Chattanooga State.
The Lady Bucks will face 10th-seed Dyersburg State in one of two ‘play-in’ games on Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. The first ‘play-in’ game features Roane State and Jackson State at 2 p.m. The two winning teams will advance to the full tournament beginning Monday, May 7.
With two outs Blackburn, who has been one of the Lady Bucks’ hottest hitters of late, connected on her second home run in the past week to give Hillman all the runs she needed. Motlow had eight hits on the day, including two each by Kayla Green, Blackburn and Shelby Webb.

The Motlow Bucks were swept in a three-game series this weekend at Volunteer State. The Pioneers won Friday’s opening game 13-7, and swept Saturday’s doubleheader 7-4, 8-4.

Local Students In Marathon

2nd Graders from Westwood Elem.

The ING Kids’ Rock Marathon took place at LP Field this past Friday night. Westwood Elementary in Manchester took 47 students, grades 1 through 6. They had been training since February and the kids ran 25 miles total while training at school. On Friday night, they ran the last 1.2 miles to finish. There was a total of 7100 Kindergarten through 7th graders participating this year. This was Westwood Elementary’s 5th year to participate.

The Phoenix Coyotes didn’t need any overtime theatrics or miracle saves from Mike Smith.
With five players scoring in a balanced, dominant performance Sunday night, the Coyotes beat the Nashville Predators 5-3 to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series.
The best-of-seven series shifts to Nashville for Game 3 on Wednesday night.

Lady Raiders Host Tournament

Coffee Co. hosted the Coffee Co. Invitational over the weekend with 19 teams competing in softball. The Lady Raiders started play Friday against Buckhorn, Ala. The game ended in a 2-2 tie because of the 1 hour 15 minute time limit. Niki Campbell had 2 hits and had 2 RBI’s and received the Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Game.

Next up for Coffee Co. was Franklin County. Niki Campbell had another big game with 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Bricen Hunt added a hit and 2 runs knocked in the 6-0 win.

On Saturday morning White House defeated the Lady Raiders 5-0. Chelsea Howell and Taylor Gullett had the only hits for Coffee County.

The Lady Raiders played without some of their normal starters in the next game because of the prom.
Coffee County took on St Agnes Academy out of Memphis. Ginny Clayborne was the player of the game with 3 hits and she knocked in 2 runs in the 8-3 victory.

In the final game for Coffee County the Lady Raiders played Lincoln County. Coffee Co. played without 8 players because of the prom and some players played different positions than normal. Lincoln Co. scored one run in the 4th and then controversy hit. A player rounding 3rd tripped and fell on the 3rd base bag. Lincoln Co. head Coach Troy Smith argued the call saying 3rd baseman Kelsey Adams had ran into the Lady Falcon causing her to fall. Both umpires admitted they did not see the trip but ruled in favor of Lincoln Co. to allow another run to score making it 2-0. Coffee Co. in their last at bat got one run but left the bases loaded. Alaina Lusk had a hit and a run scored. Pitcher Brianna Jones earned the player of the game.
Coffee Co. will host Davidson Acad. tonight (Monday) at 7pm on Thunder Radio.

Meeker Hits Bomb But Raiders Fall

Peyton Meeker had 3-run homer but it was not enough as the Coffee Co. baseball team lost 10-6 at Shelbyville on Friday night.
Coffee Co. will host Tullahoma on Sr Night Tuesday night starting at 6pm on Thunder Radio.

Raiders Lose Late At Home

Ricky Rameriz got the scoring going in the soccer match yesterday as Coffee County hosted LaVergne. With the game tied the Wolverines scored with around 90 seconds left for a 2-1 win.
