Close But Vanderbilt Drops Game To Northwestern

Northwestern beat Vanderbilt 23-13 Saturday night after scoring 17 points in the 4th quarter.
QB Jordan Rodgers threw for 217 yards for Vanderbilt. Chris Boyd had 76 yards receiving and Jordan Matthews added 75 with a TD catch on the game’s opening drive. Despite all that, the Commodores fell again.
The Commodores get a non-conference game next week against Presbyterian before a gauntlet the following few weeks which begins with trips to Georgia and Missouri before home games against Florida and Auburn.

Titans Open Season With Loss To Pats

A rough first game of the season for the Tennessee Titans got a whole lot worse during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s tilt against the New England Patriots.

Titans quarterback Jake Locker and wide receiver Nate Washington were both hurt on a pass to Washington that originally was called a fumble by Washington and then later overturned to an incomplete pass.

Locker hurt his left shoulder while trying to make a tackle. Washington, meanwhile, had to be helped off the field after taking a shot to the head.

Locker passed for a TD and 239 yards in the 34-13 loss to the Patriots. Tennessee had nothing going in the running game with only 20 yards. Chris Johnson finished with 4 yards.

Despite Great Effort “Pot” Stays In Tullahoma

After trailing by 14 in the 1st quarter Coffee County came roaring back in the 87 annual Coffee Pot game at Tullahoma Friday night.

Things started off badly with Wildcat Trey Burks went 79 yards on a punt return at the 7:27 mark in the first quarter. Later in the first Tullahoma’s Zane Price gave the Wildcats their second score of the night as he reeled in a 9-yard pass from quarterback Justin Brown with 57 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Raiders would not die as they cut the deficit to 14-7 on their next possession as Peyton Meeker connected with Chris Vaughn on a 23-yard touchdown strike with 10:58 in the second quarter. Red Raider Justin Smith tied the game as he picked off a Justin Brown pass and went 70 yards, tying the game at 14-14 with 8:06 remaining until the half.

Tullahoma would come back and kick a field-goal for a 17-14 lead.

Deangelo Rozier who had 162 yards on the night galloped 68 yards with 4:09 left in the half for a 21-17 lead into the half. Rozier was named the Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Game.

The Wildcats would come out in the 2nd half and shut down the Raiders and get 2 more touchdowns from Trey Burks and go onto win for the 56th time in the history of the rivalry, 31-21.

Coffee County will see their first District 6-AAA action of the year this Friday night as White County will be in Manchester.

The Battle For The “POT”

The annual “Coffee Pot” football game between Tullahoma and Coffee County will be played tonight (Sept. 7, 2012) at Wilkins Stadium in Tullahoma. The annual clash between the Coffee County Red Raiders and the Tullahoma Wildcats is the 87th time these two teams have met on the grid iron as they play for the bragging rights to have the “Coffee Pot”. Tullahoma has 55 wins, Coffee County 29 and there have been 2 ties. Before the game gets started there will be a tailgate party and pep rally featuring both bands at the school from 4 p.m. until just before kickoff, which is sponsored by the Stan McNabb dealerships. The pre-game show will begin at 6 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m. on Thunder Radio.

Regular Season Wraps Up For Coffee County Golf

In their final regular season matches of the year Coffee County golfers challenged Grundy and Cannon Counties over 9-holes at Willowbrook yesterday (Sept. 6, 2012). The boys shot a great score of 154 led by Kyle Johnson’s even par 36. Grundy shot 208 and Cannon 211. Other scores for the Raiders were Justin Mooneyham and Garrett Adams with 38’s and Jacob Prater had a 42. Josh Wilson also played and scored a 44.

Coffee Co. girls defeated Grundy Co. 87-128. Devin Green shot the low round for the Lady Raiders with a 42 followed by Alex Tidwell shooting a 45.
The boys overall record is now 69-23 and the girls stand at 51-18. The district tournament is Monday in McMinnville.

Lady Raiders Win Again In Soccer

The soccer ladies at Coffee Co. hosted Cumberland Co. yesterday afternoon (Sept. 6, 2012) and picked up and impressive District 6-AAA win. The Lady Raiders won 9-0 behind the scoring of Katie Reed who had her 3rd hat trick of the year with 3 goals.

Westwood Falls To Forrest–UPDATE

The Westwood Middle School Rockets hosted Forrest on Thursday night at Dyer-Bouldin Field. In a close one Forrest got the close 8-6 win. Westwood plays Moore Co. next Thursday night.
Dallin Bratcher scored on a 27 yard rocket sweep and on the last play of the game a pass.
Westwood will host Ezell Harding Monday and play again Thursday at Moore County.

Lady Raiders Golf Team Performs Well In Tournament

The Lady Raider golf tournament was held yesterday (Sept. 6, 2012) at Willowbrook. Coffee County finished in 3rd place in the team competition with a score of 166. Milan girls won the tournament with a 160 and in 2nd place was Warren County at 164. The Lady Raiders picked up 17 wins and 2 losses to improve to 50-18 on the year.
Cori Burns of Gallatin was the individual winner with a 2-over 74. Hollee Sadler of Coffee County came in 5th place with an 81.

Other scores for the Lady Raiders were Devin Green, 85, Megan Kriz, 87, Alex Tidwell 88 and Teagan Perry 104.
The final matches of the regular season will be played today at Willowbrook versus Grundy, Cannon and Counties.

Lady Rockets Fall Short In Soccer Action

The Lady Rocket Soccer team at Westwood middle school lost to Cascade Tuesday night in a hard fought battle. The Rockets started out slow and went down 2-0 in the first half. In the second half, the Lady Rockets scored to make it 2 to 1 but couldn’t come up with an equalizer. They play at St. Andrews today, Sept. 6th, at 5:30pm.

In middle school football on Tuesday night Coffee County traveled to Winchester to take on South. The Raiders dominated the game winning 28-0. Grant Sadler threw a TD pass and caught a pass for another score.
The 4-1 Raiders will host North Franklin County Tuesday night at Carden-Jarrell field.
