Lady Raider Basketball Alumni Game June 6

basketball 5The Coffee County Lady Raider basketball team will play an alumni game this Friday night (June 6) at 6pm. The game will take place at the Joe Frank Patch Gym at Coffee County High School. The 2014-15 will take on a team of alumnus. Everyone is invited to come on out to watch the game.

Softball Camp At Motlow

softball 8Motlow Lady Bucks head softball coach Tori Raby-Gentry will host a softball camp on June 23 and 24 at the softball complex on the Motlow College Moore County campus. Those who register before June 19 will receive a free camp t-shirt.
The camp is for softball players age 12 and under and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day with a cost of $45 per camper. It will focus on a variety of individual skills including defense, hitting, bunting and base running.

Morris Now a Marlin

Bryan Morris1Former Tullahoma and Motlow baseball player Bryan Morris who has been pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates was traded over the weekend to the Miami Marlins.
This season, he is 4-0 with a 3.80 ERA in 21 appearances for the Pirates. Morris, 27, is a former first-round pick (26th overall) of the Dodgers in 2006.

Preadators Sign Goalie

Preds New Logo 1The Nashville Predators signed goalie Carter Hutton to a two-year, $1.45-million contract Monday.
The deal pays Hutton $700,000 in 2014-15 and $750,000 in 2015-16.
The 28-year old played his first NHL season in Nashville last season and ended up playing 35 games going 20-11-4 after Pekka Rinne went down with a hip infection.
Hutton went 13-4-2 in his final 19 decisions of the season, which included a personal five-game winning streak to close out the season.

Motlow Players To Continue Education and Athletic Careers At Four-Year Universities, Plus Basketball Camp

Motlow sportsTwo former Motlow College student athletes will continue their education and athletic careers at four-year universities following outstanding sophomore seasons at Motlow. Both recently earned their associate degree during Motlow’s May 10 graduation ceremonies.
Makenzie Hopkins from Cornersville signed to continue playing softball at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. Hopkins was a two-year starter for the Lady Bucks at shortstop and completed her career with a .359 batting average. She hit .373 during the 2014 season with 10 doubles and 29 runs batted in.
Tre’von (Trey) James is from Darlington, S.C. and came to Motlow for his sophomore year after spending his freshman season at Coastal Carolina University. The 6’5” forward has committed to play at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. He averaged 10.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game.
James’ 345 rebounds is the third most rebounds in a single season in Motlow’s 45-year basketball history and the sixth most in career history, which includes those who played two years for the Bucks. James had at least a dozen double-doubles during the season and pulled down 20 rebounds in one game, the seventh most in school history.

Motlow Bucks head basketball coach Matt Sligh and his staff will host a basketball skills camp on June 16 and 17 inside Nisbett Center on the Motlow College Moore County campus. The deadline for registration is June 9. The camp will feature two separate sessions. The first is for kindergarten through sixth-grade students and will begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon both days. The second session is for seventh through 12th graders and will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m. both days. The cost of the camp is $60 per person. There is a $5 discount per player for two or more campers from the same family. Team groups of eight or more players will receive a $10 discount per player. Late registration is $65. Campers will receive a Motlow Bucks basketball camp T-shirt and will have the option to purchase additional Bucks basketball gear. Food and drink items will be available for purchase throughout the camp. Attendees are encouraged to reserve their spot at the camp by visiting MotlowSports.com. Former Raider Golfer Receives National Honor

By virtue of her commitment to excellence on the course and in the classroom, Martin Methodist Women’s Golf member Brittany Kriz, a former Coffee County golfer has been named to the 2014 NAIA Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete team
Kriz was one of 118 women’s golf student-athletes that were honored for their athletic and academic successes. The RedHawk golfer also received the honor last year.
Kriz who just graduated from Martin-Methodist is from Manchester. A four-year member of the program, Kriz helped grow a young Women’s Golf squad into a roster that featured eight members in 2013-14.
Academically, Kriz amassed a 3.73 GPA and graduated on May 3 with a degree in Biology.
In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.

Try-Outs Are Set For 2015 High School Softball and Baseball

CCCoffee County Lady Raider softball team tryouts for 2015 will be held Tuesday May 27th and Wednesday May 28th from 10am-Noon.

The Red Raider Baseball team will have a baseball meeting with the new coach Brad Weir on Wednesday May 28th at 6pm in school cafeteria. Also tryouts will be on May 29th and May 30th from 6pm-8:30pm for all upcoming 9th through 12th graders.

Coffee County Softball Finishes 4th Place in the State!

The Coffee County softball team has used aggressive base running and strong pitching to a charm all season long. Those 2 weapons served the Lady Raiders to perfection in a 2 to 0 win over Maryville on Thursday in the elimination round at the Spring Fling state championships. Grace Spellings, who came in as a pinch runner for Kaylee Skipper who singled, scored first for Coffee County when she stole 3rd base and scored when the catcher’s throw ended up in left field. Shelby Giles scored the 2nd run off an RBI double from Anna Spellings. Brianna Jones had 12 strikeouts on the day and banged out 2 singles to lead the Red Raider hitting attack and earn the Gateway Tire & Service Player of the Game Award. The exhilaration of an early afternoon win gave way to the exhaustion of a late afternoon loss for the Lady Raider softball team in the semifinals of the TSSAA Spring Fling. The Lady Raiders fell in a rematch with their first round opponent Gibbs by a final score of 8 to 4. Brianna Jones, with a heroic effort, finished the game with 10 strikeouts to give her 394 on the season. Bethany Baker had a 2-run homerun in the 7th inning for the Lady Raiders and senior Anna Spellings was 2 for 3 for Coffee County to earn the Gateway Tire & Service Player of the Game Award. The loss ended a magical season for the Lady Raiders as they finish with a record of 31-15-1 and a 4th place finish in Class AAA. Download the radio broadcast

Two Track Athletes Close Out Year

Freshman Karson Young jumped a personal best 34 feet on her first attempt as she finished in 12th place in the TSSAA Spring Fling Track Meet on Thursday at MTSU. Young, who only began competing in the triple jump in April, was seeded 15th coming into the meetafter qualifying at 32 feet, 6 inches.  Young hit her takeoff perfectly on her approach but came up 8 inches short of advancing to the medal round.
Senior Haley Banks concluded her track career finishing in 10th place in the shot put on Thursday. Banks,had 3 throws over 34 feet with her 3rd attempt of 34 feet 4.25 inches being her best. Banks, who also competed in the Pentathlon and 100M hurdles, closes out her prep track career as another in a long line of talented athletes who have worn the red & black.
Coaches Stan Jarrell and Phil Bonham completed their 24th season at the helm of the track program. During their tenures, at least 1 CHS track athlete has qualified for the state track meet. Adding to the prospect of a bright track future, Coffee County will field their first cross country team in the fall under the direction of Coach David Muckle.
