Outscoring the Lady Stars of Siegel in every quarter on Saturday evening gave the Lady Raiders of Coffee County a 2 and 0 start to 2015 with the 44 to 27 win.  Coffee County earned their 3rd straight win and their 5th win in their last 6 games with the non district win in Murfreesboro.  After a sluggish start, the Lady Raiders closed out the 1st quarter on a 5 to 0 run to take a 6 point lead into the 2nd quarter.  A Siegel 3 pointer to open the second period got the Stars to within 3 points, but that was closest that the Lady Raider defense would let them get.  Nine Lady Raiders scored points on the night as Tyger Fenton led Coffee County with 15 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game honor. Sara Brown added 10 points for Coffee County as all of her points came in the 1st and 4th quarters.  The win improved the Lady Raiders record to 10 and 7 on the season.

Trailing by as many as 10 points in the 4th quarter and 6 points in the first overtime period, the Lady Raiders of Coffee County dug deep on Friday night to gut out a 52 to 49 triple overtime win over Warren County at the Joe Frank Patch Gym. The Lady Raiders, whose depth was thinned by illness, fought through a cold shooting touch in the 2nd and 3rd periods to shock the Lady Pioneers. Coffee County was 20 of 29 from the free throw stripe on the night, but 4th quarter 3 pointers from Tyger Fenton and Cameron Davis helped force an overtime. In the first overtime, Warren County jumped out to a 6 point lead but 3 pointers from Sydney Pearson and McKenzie Morgan in the last 90 seconds forced a 2nd overtime. A neck and neck 2nd overtime gave way to a 3rd overtime that the Lady Raiders dominated to claw out the win. Pearson led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 15 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game honors. Tyger Fenton added 10 points while Sara Brown netted 9 as the Lady Raiders improved to 9 and 7 on the season.

Coffee County, which led by 8 points after 1 quarter of play, saw the visiting Pioneers take a 1 point lead into the 4th quarter. A seesaw 4th quarter had Coffee County leading by 1 with 20 seconds to go prior to Golden’s heroics. Despite the loss, the Red Raiders got outstanding play in the paint from Addison Carter and Austin Baugh and three 3 pointers and 13 points from Zack Taylor. Carter finished with 12 points and Peyton Talley added 7. Zack Taylor was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game honors. Freshmen normally don’t get an opportunity to play much during their first year of high school football, but one player at Coffee County did play and he played very well.
QB Alontae Taylor began starting in the 3rd game of the 2014 campaign and rolled up over 1,600 yards rushing, which led the nation in the regular season for freshmen. Taylor was named to play in an all-star game for the best freshmen in the nation but will not be allowed to play because of a TSSAA rule.
Another honor came this week when Taylor was named MaxPreps Freshmen All-American 1st team. Taylor had 1,676 yards and scored 17 TD’s.

Basketball is known as a game of match ups. Friday night, the Lady Raiders of Coffee County took on the Raptors of Ravenwood in the Central Magnet Christmas Tournament in Murfreesboro facing a serious size match up problem. Davis and Sara Brown led Coffee County in scoring with 12 points each while Tyger Fenton added 9 points. Fenton played well on the defensive end and her all around game earned her the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game honors.
The Lady Raiders came back on Saturday morning to take on Kingwood Christian out of Huntsville, AL. The Lady Raiders roared out to a 20 point halftime lead and coasted to a 54 to 44 win. Sara Brown had 4 three point baskets in the game to finish with a team high 16 points. Tyger Fenton had 2 three’s to finish with 15 points and McKenzie Morgan netted 8 points. The Saturday morning win gave the Lady Raiders a 2 and 1 record in the tournament and improved their overall record to 8 and 7 on the season. The Lady Raiders will be off until January 2nd when they host Warren County at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium.
