The Predators returned home Monday night to kick off their Thanksgiving week home stand to take on the Steven Stamkos-less Tampa Bay Lightning.
This was one of the better starts the predators have had this season. Viktor Arvidsson continued to remain red-hot, scoring his sixth goal of the game on a beautiful pass from Roman Josi. The Preds were able to keep the pressure on the Lightning, as Tampa Bay was not able to get much going offensively.
Pekka Rinne continues to baffle opposing defenses. He has turned away some pretty good chances by the Bolts in the second period. P.K. Subban unloads a slap shot, and Ben Bishop has no chance there and Nashville takes a 2-0 lead. Moments later, Subban strikes again, his first multi-goal game since October 2014. Ryan Ellis quietly has three assists, the third three point game of his career, and first three assist game.
The game started getting chippy in the third period. Arvidsson rode Namestnikov kind of hard into the boards and drew a penalty. J.T. Brown returned the favor knocking Roman Josi into the boards fairly hard as well. Josi had to leave the ice and get checked out. Not too long after that, Brown pounced on Ryan Ellis, unloading a barrage of punches WWE style. The Lightning added a goal after Ellis and Brown were handed misconducts. The shutout is gone but luckily this one ends before any steel cage matches break out.
The refs deserve most of the blame for that 3rd period, as they severely mishandled the physical play that led up to the final melee. Brown is definitely culpable, as is Ellis, but the refs had chances to call penalties for obvious infractions and didn’t.

The St. Louis Blues broke a 1-1 tie and scored twice in the third period to defeat the Nashville Predators by a 3-1 final on Saturday night at Scottrade Center. The result gives Nashville a 1-2-0 record to finish their three-game excursion and a 7-7-3 mark overall.
The final frame saw the Preds give up a couple odd-man chances and the Blues took advantage, scoring two goals in the last 20 minutes to seal the victory, with Pekka Rinne suffering his first regulation loss of the month.
“I thought we were good for two periods,” Head Coach Peter Laviolette said. “They seemed to grab some momentum off of that power play to open the third period, and shortly after that, we just couldn’t seem to corral it. They gained some momentum… to start the third and we just couldn’t get going.”
“It was a close, tight game,” defenseman Roman Josi said. “It’s always tight games against St. Louis, not a lot of room out there. It was close, and they played better in the third.”
Mike Ribeiro got the lone Preds goal on the evening on the power play, his second in as many games. But Blues netminder Jake Allen shut the door the rest of the way, turning aside 30 Nashville shots on the night.
“We did some things well; starting [the third] period, we were on the penalty kill and I think that it maybe took us a while to get going,” defenseman P.K. Subban said. “Until that second goal, I felt that we had a really good chance to get two points in this game, but it didn’t happen.”
From here, the Preds head back to Nashville for a three-game set, looking to replicate the success of their previous home stand.
“We’ve been on the road for a couple games now, and it’s always nice to go home to Nashville,” Josi said. “We’ve been playing well at home.”
Notes:
James Neal saw his six-game goal streak come to an end on Thursday night. He finished tied for the franchise record for consecutive games with a goal, along with Filip Forsberg, Patric Hornqvist, Alexander Radulov and J-P Dumont.
Forward Colin Wilson participated in Nashville’s morning skate, but missed the contest against the Blues with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day.
Earlier in the day, d-man Anthony Bitetto was sent to Milwaukee (AHL) on a conditioning assignment. Bitetto record four shots in a 2-1 overtime victory for the Admirals over the Cleveland Monsters on Saturday night.
The Preds return to Bridgestone Arena for a Thanksgiving week home stand, beginning on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Thunder Radio will bring you the broadcast of that game following Red Raider basketball.
The Rockets of Westwood welcomed the Rockets of Forrest to the Joel Vinson Gym on Thursday night. An injury depleted Lady Rockets team fell to Forrest 30 to 15. The Westwood boys came up short in a double overtime thriller 58 to 57.
Despite 5 Westwood girls unavailable due to injury, the Lady Rockets opened the game with a swarming half court defense to stifle Forrest in the first quarter. After holding Forrest to 4 points in the 1st quarter, Westwood entered the 2nd quarter tied with conference leading Forrest. The visiting Lady Rockets were able to outscore Westwood 11 to 2 in the 2nd quarter to open up a lead that Westwood could not overcome. From that point, the depth of Forrest was more than enough to hold off a scrappy Lady Rocket team and secure the season sweep over Westwood. Anna Johnson and Haidyn Campbell led Westwood in scoring as each netted 4 points.
Wyatt Nugent of Westwood basketball
In a boys game that featured more than 50 free throw attempts, the Westwood Rockets dropped a physical double overtime contest with Forrest to end with a season split with the Rockets from Chapel Hill. A driving basket by John Dobson with 12 seconds remaining in regulation capped off Westwood’s rally from an 8 point 4th quarter deficit to send the game to overtime. In the first overtime, Cruz Pitsinos hit a 3 point basket as the horn sounded to tie the game and force a 2nd overtime. Four Rockets ended up fouling out as Forrest was able to hold off Westwood in the 2nd overtime period. Trenton Thompson was the leading scorer as he netted 17 points; Pitsinos finished the game with 15 points. Wyatt Nugent had 7 points, including 5 in the last 2 minutes of regulation.
Westwood will travel to Eagleville on Monday night for a conference doubleheader with the Eagles. The girls’ game will tip off at 6 PM.
