Richard J. Ferlito

Richard J. Ferlito, formerly of Estill Springs, passed this life on Monday,
May 30, 2022 at his residence at Brookdale Assisted Living, at the age of
88. No services are scheduled.

Mr. Ferlito, a native of New York, was the son of the late Samuel and Mary
Drake Ferlito.  He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict (1953-1955),
serving in the U S Army Signal Corps.  He was the Highway Superintendent
for the state of New York and was a member of the NYS-Pistol Club and the
VFW.  He also raised Belgium Draft Horses.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean
Ferlito; brothers, William and John and sisters, Shirley, Sharon, Rose and
Jean.

He is survived by sister, Serena Sweet of Texas and several nieces and
nephews.

Jeffrey Douglas Kvale

Jeffrey Douglas Kvale, age 61 years of Manchester, was born on August 7, 1960, to the late Ronald and June Larson Frerichs in Minneapolis, MN. He was a framing carpenter by trade and he enjoyed restoring cars, being outdoors, collecting many different items, and he loved his Jeep. Jeffrey was known as an amazing father and a wonderful papa who loved and followed Jesus wholeheartedly.  

In addition to his parents, Jeffrey is preceded in death by his siblings, Paul and Rick Kvale, and Valerie Kvale. He is survived by his daughters, Emily Howell (Rich), Jennifer Andrew (Pat), and Lisa Kvale; siblings, Gary, Brad, and Mark Kvale, Amanda Waldsmith, Nancy Basford, and Debbie Casaus; grandchildren, Heidi, Jeffery, Chloe, Jacob, Chris, Issac, and Sophia Howell, and Aaron, Kai, and Matthew Andrew, and JJ Sandoval; several extended family members and a host of friends.

A memorial service in honor of Jeffrey will be held at a later date in Arizona.

Craig Marcel Alexander

Craig Marcel Alexander, of Normandy, passed this life on Sunday, May 29 th , 2022 at his home at the age of 62. Craig was born in Manchester to the late Frank and Jean Hannah Alexander. During his life he worked as a carpenter in residential construction. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Craig is survived by two brothers, Andy (Suzanne) Alexander and Barry (Debbie) Alexander; one sister, Deedie (Joe) Felecia; nephews and niece, Joshua (Erica), Taylor (Mindy), and Courtney; great nephews and niece, County, Cole, Mara, Kase and Kole; and countless cousins and friends. Visitation for Craig will be held on Saturday June 4 th , 2022 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 11:00am-2:00pm with the funeral to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123.

John Otto Phillips, Jr.

John Otto Phillips, Jr., “Jack”, departed this life Sunday, May 22, 2022,
at the home of his daughter, Joanna, in Pensacola, Florida. Jack was born
to Florentine Holmes and John O Phillips, Sr. in Miami, Florida August 20,
1935

Jack spent his early years in Manchester, Tennessee where he and his family
were very involved in the community. He was an Eagle Scout, lifeguard at
the local swimming pool, high school football player, active member of the
United Methodist Church and worked at Evans grocery store.

He attended Coffee County schools and graduated in 1953. He began his
college life at Vanderbilt University prior to receiving an Appointment by
Tennessee Congressman Joe L. Evins to the United States Naval Academy.
While wrestling at the Naval Academy, Jack sustained an injury which
disqualified him from remaining as a Midshipman and he had to leave the
academy. Jack continued his studies at the University of Tennessee (UT) and
ultimately graduated with honors and a business degree. While at UT, Jack
was a member of the UT Singers ensemble. Jack received a MS in Management
from Rollins College in 1971.

Upon graduation, Jack went to work at Chrysler Corporation in Huntsville,
Alabama. While working at Chrysler Jack met Mary Dudley Call. They were
married May 1963 and had four children. After spending several years with
Chrysler, he was hired by the National Aeronautics Space Administration
(NASA) and moved to Titusville, Florida. While employed by NASA for 30+
years, he was involved in many projects including Apollo Missions, booster
rocket redesign for the Space Shuttle and the Hubble Telescope among many
others. Jack received several awards and accolades for his work at NASA.

Jack married JoAllen Rogers May 6, 1978. After spending time in Huntsville,
Al, Pass Christian, MS and Danbury, CT, they returned to live in their
hometown of Manchester, TN in 1984.

Following his retirement, Jack began looking for a way to stay busy and
spend as much time as possible at the family farm. Together, Jack and Jo
opened The Fairway Driving Range on Interstate Drive. Jack was always
working on a project and could often be found scouring local junk yards to
find parts for cars he was fixing up. He enjoyed watching sports (aka
snoring on the couch), thrifting at the local goodwill, playing cards,
eating sweets, and traveling to visit his friends and family. Jack never
knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, JoAllen Rogers, an infant
son, Jay, and both of his parents. He is survived by his three children
Leigh (and Robert) Radmacher of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Joanna Cope of
Pensacola, Florida, and John (and Lorie) Phillips of Vestavia Hills,
Alabama; three stepchildren Jennifer Dunn of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Bobby
(and Bobbie) Dunn of Brown Summit, North Carolina, and Jeff (and Christy)
Dunn of Raleigh, North Carolina; One sister, Florentine “Tine” Liegerot of
Brevard, North Carolina; 8 Grandchildren and 2 nephews.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022,
from 10:00am until 11:00am at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN.
Funeral services will immediately follow. Burial will take place at
Hillsboro United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Leslie Howard Hartley

Leslie Howard Hartley of Fairview, TN passed this life on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Alive Hospice in Nashville at the age of 75. Mr. Hartley was born in Franklin, TN to the late Leslie Ewan and Jennie Mae Ferrell Hartley. Leslie served his country in the United States National Guard, and was a proud member of the International Heat and Frost Insulators Local #86. He loved NASCAR, and country music. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hartley is preceded in death by one brother, Robert “Bobby” Hartley; and one sister, Reta Faye Hartley. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Joan Brown Hartley; one daughter, Kimberly Lingle (Jay); one son, Leslie Brad Hartley; two sisters, Daisy Glascoe (Ernie), and Virginia Burton (Harry “Bug); three grandchildren, Johnny Leslie Lingle, Jennie Katherine Alma Lingle, and Montana Ruth Hartley. Visitation for Mr. Hartley will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 1:00-2:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel with Anthony Nicholson officiating, and members of International Heat and Frost Insulators Local #86 serving as honorary pallbearers. Harold Headley Offutt, Jr.

Harold Headley Offutt, Jr. passed away on May 27, 2022 at his home in
Tullahoma, following a short illness.  He was 92. He was born in
Earlington, KY on March 22, 1930 to the late Harold Headley Offutt, Sr. and
the late Ruby Lee Beard Offutt.

Raised in Earlington until he was 14, Harold spent many days with his
grandfather, Sam Offutt in his drugstore.  He moved to Mt. Pleasant, TN in
1944, with his family when his father got a job as a train engineer with
the L&N Railroad.  Harold would become the QB of the Hay Long High School
football team in Mt. Pleasant where he would begin dating his future wife
after asking her to ride home with him on the pep bus after an away game.

Harold and Mary Bond Burnett married on March 15, 1952 while he was home on
leave from the Army. Following their marriage, Harold was stationed at
Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, HI where he served as a medic during the
Korean War. Mary Bond would join him in Hawaii and they spent their first
year of marriage there. After his time in the Army, Harold attended
pharmacy school, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. He graduated
from The University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy in 1955, where he was a
member of the Phi Delta Chi fraternity. Harold and Mary Bond moved to
Tullahoma in 1959 where they planted roots and began their family. He and
his wife were members of the Bel-Aire Church of Christ, which would later
relocate and become the Cedar Lane Church of Christ.  Harold joined Medical
Building and Taylor’s Pharmacies, becoming a partial owner. Harold served
the Tullahoma community for over 30 years before retiring to play golf full
time.

An avid golfer, he won the Senior Championship tournament at Lakewood Golf
and Country Club on two occasions and made a hole in one on their course
once. In addition to golf, he ran two or three miles several times a week,
he could be seen running on the THS track many years before it became a
popular pastime. A strong supporter of The University of Tennessee sports,
he and his wife spent many Fall Saturdays in Neyland Stadium with their
children. Watching Tennessee football and basketball games became a family
tradition. Mr. Offutt had a joy for life and loved to play pranks on his
family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of
62 years, Mary Bond Burnett Offutt and his sister, Martha Jean “Dollye”
Offutt Haskew. Mr. Offutt is survived by his four children, Daryl Offutt of
Fayetteville, Mary Lee Stewart of Estill Springs, Kevin (Denise) Offutt of
Franklin and Lynda (Sean) Sanders of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren,
Alex Adams, Holly Stewart (Thomas Clark) and Connor Offutt; one
great-grandchild, Adaleyah Adams and a great-grandchild on the way, Riley
Clark; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend
their gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and Compassus
Hospice of Tullahoma for their care of Harold over the last several weeks.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 31 with visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00
PM and the services to begin at 2:00 PM, with interment to follow at Rose
Hill Memorial Gardens.  Memorials can be made to the Cedar Lane Church of
Christ (1200 Cedar Lane Tullahoma, TN 37388) or Special Olympics.

Irwin David Gordon

Irwin David Gordon, of Manchester, passed this life on Thursday, May 26,
2022 at his residence, at the age of 74. No services are scheduled.

Irwin, a native of Brooklyn, New York, was the son of the late Nathaniel
Gordon and the late Evelyn Katz Gordon.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother, Mitchell Gordon and sister, Roberta Striano.

Rebecca Lynn Whitmire

Mrs. Rebecca Lynn Whitmire, age 64 of Manchester, was born in Maryville, TN, on July 14, 1957, the daughter of the late Quinton and Inez Hill.  She passed from this life on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at St. Thomas – Rutherford in Murfreesboro, TN.  Rebecca was a wonderful wife who cared for her husband and family deeply.  She loved all animals and was strongly into animal recues, especially horses and dogs.  Rebecca also enjoyed gardening.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Rebecca is also preceded in death by her four brothers, Dennis, Dale, Vernon, and Jess R. Hill.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 24 years, Richard; two sons, Jason Norman and Christopher Norman; one granddaughter, Inola Norman.

The family asks in memory of Rebecca to plant a flower, or donate to an animal rescue center of your choice.

Wanda May Bryan

Wanda May (Green) Bryan, age 90, passed away peacefully at Unity Medical Center in Manchester, Tennessee on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, after a short illness.  Born August 31, 1931, in Asbury, Tennessee to Isaac M. Green and Maude Anthony Green, Wanda lived and attended school there until 6th grade when her family moved to Manchester.  She was a 1949 graduate of Coffee County Central High School and a proud member of the “’49ers”, enjoying many reunions with her classmates over the years.

Soon after graduation, the handsome Fred Bryan caught her eye and the couple married in 1952; they had been married 51 years at the time of Fred’s death in 2003 and lived their entire lives in Manchester.  Prior to her retirement Wanda worked in Quality Control at PCA in Manchester.  Her many interests included sewing and quilting (she was an excellent seamstress), reading biographies and autobiographies, jigsaw puzzles (she was a whiz), cooking, and canning (she took advantage of Fred’s large garden and canned shelves full of fresh fruits and vegetables each summer).  She loved animals and birds, especially Bluebirds and Purple Martins.  A fan of country music, favorites included Don Williams, George Strait and Ernest Tubb.   

Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  Marlena (Steve) Scott of Hillsboro, David (Gina) Bryan of Chattanooga, Evelyn (Lane) Curlee of Tullahoma, and Donna (Don) Hershman of Hillsboro.  Grandchildren include:  Charlie (Jamie) Gonzales of Tullahoma, Christina (Dustin) Dotson of Hillsboro, Rob (Caitie) Curlee of Tullahoma, and Rosalyn (Rusty) Grammer of Moore County.  Great-grandchildren are Levi Dotson, Shelby Dotson, Harper Gonzales, Kelsey Gonzales, Meredith Grammer and Julie Grammer. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Manchester Healthcare Center for their wonderful care for the past few years, especially Lauren Tobitt for her devotion and special attention.  Thanks also to the medical staff at Unity Medical Center for their compassionate care.    Even though her mind and body failed her over the last several years; Wanda never lost her gentle spirit and beautiful smile. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was preceded in death by two sisters who she loved dearly, Carmen (Hubert) Warren, and Frances (Harold) Cunningham, son-in-law Charles “Speedy” Gonzales, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, May 31st from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel on Highway 55 in Manchester, Tennessee.  Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens on Highway 55, Tullahoma, Tennessee.   Officiating will be Bro. Alan Adams, Minister at the Main Street Church of Christ in Manchester, where Wanda was a faithful member for over 60 years, serving for many years in the church’s clothing room and the nursery.    

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wanda’s memory to the Senior Bus Ministry at the Main Street Church of Christ, 201 E. Main Street, Manchester, TN 37355.

Joseph Edward Jones Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Edward Jones, Sr., age 76 of Hillsboro, will be conducted at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Manchester Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Ragsdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2022, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM at the funeral home.  Mr. Jones passed from this life on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Joseph Edward Jones was born in Manchester, TN on March 21, 1946, the son of the late Marshall and Frances Jones.  He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, serving from 1964-1967.  Joe enjoyed spending his free time fishing, hunting, boating, and gardening.  He also enjoyed traveling and going on cruises.  Joe loved being with his family above all else and spending time with his dog, Candy.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Joe is also preceded in death by his sister, Donna; one brother-in-law; and some grandchildren.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Patricia Jones; three sons, Joseph Jones, Jr. (Patty), Christopher Jones (Alison), and Paul Jones (Christy); four daughters, Lucy Ford, Angela Bensley (Bill), Angel Villalta (Ryan), and Chrystal Jaco (Anthony); three brothers, Benny Jones, Tony, and Richard; four sisters, Linda, Judy, Marsha May, and Susie; 30+ grandchildren, and 60+ great-grandchildren.
