Charles Thomas Trail

Charles Thomas Trail, retired United States Army SFC, age 86 of Murfreesboro, was born on December 4, 1935, to the late George and Jewell Crosslin Trail, in Manchester, TN. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years. After his retirement from his military career as a Sargent First Class, Charles was employed as a technician in the Bio-Medical Engineering Department for the Veterans Administration in Murfreesboro, TN, until his retirement after 34 years. After Charles left the VA, he became a substitute teacher in Rutherford County. He loved participating in the senior Olympics, running, playing ping pong, especially in many tournaments all over Tennessee, and he enjoyed garage selling.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Howard Trail, and sister, Susan Delores Bullard. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marie Trail; two daughters, Lori Trail, and Jewell Thompson; three brothers, George, David, and Michael Trail; sisters, Wanda Gilly and Geraldine Turnage; several extended family members and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Charles will be conducted on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 1 PM in the Manchester Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Fredonia cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 AM on Monday, until time of service. Charles passed away at his home in Murfreesboro after an extended illness.

Richard Allan Leverton

Richard Allan Leverton, age 70 of Manchester, was born on January 26, 1952, in Lodi, OH, to the late Marion and Esther Fetherolf. He was one of sixteen children, thirteen of which preceded him in death. “Rich”, as he was fondly known as by family and friends, was employed for the City of Manchester Street Department for many years. Rich had a great love for fast driving hotrods and attending the local classic car shows.

Rich is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Carol Ann Whiting Leverton; children; Herb Leverton (Sue), Carl Swain, Archie Leverton, Buzz Stiles (Wendy), James Stiles, and Tricia Rhame; four grandchildren, Herbie, Jennifer, Kris, and Laura; 8 great grandchildren, Riylie, Kadance, Owen, Aurora, Dysis, Parker, Cody, and Adam; three remaining siblings; several extended family members and a host of friends.

As per Rich’s request, cremation was chosen; there will be a Celebration of Life held in memory of Rich, for family and friends, at the family home, on Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 1 – 3 PM.

Jerold “Jerry” Edward Barkve

Funeral services for Mr. Jerold “Jerry” Edward Barkve, age 78 of Tullahoma, will be conducted on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 1 PM in the Tullahoma Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Windrow Cemetery in Rockvale, TN with military honors. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, June 24, from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Jerry passed away on Monday, June 13 at Unity Medical Center after an extended illness.

Jerry was born on September 25, 1943, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to the late Norman Milford and Leota McQuan Barkve. He faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic, then honorably retired after 22 years of service. After his retirement from the military, Jerry continued his occupation as a jet engine mechanic at AEDC, until his retirement after 20 years of service.  He was a member of the VFW 1893 in Estill Springs. Jerry enjoyed woodworking and playing his guitar with his brothers and sisters in their younger years.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Willard Barkve; brothers, Allen, Norman, and Kenny Barkve; sister, Marilyn Lampe. He is survived by his children, Jerold Edward “Eddie” Barkve, Jr., and Cheryl Nelson; grandchildren, Matthew Barkve, Jacob, Jared, and Joshua Nelson; great grandchild, Mabel; brother, James Barkve; sisters, Carol Hellickson, Linda Weber, and Jeannie Larson; special fur baby, Montana; several extended family members and a host of friends.

Stephen Arthur Knight

Stephen Arthur Knight, of Manchester, passed from this life on June 15, 2022 after and extended illness. He was a native of Tullahoma, TN and graduated from THS in 1965. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Vietnam Era. He worked for Whirlpool Corporation for many years as an asset manager and continued to do support work for them until his health declined. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and a world class skeet shooter. He competed in skeet at every level and continued to referee the World Skeet Shoot for many years after he stopped competing. Steve was preceded by his parents, William Matthew Knight and Irene Smith Knight; and a son, Mark (Kava) Petty. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Knight; a son, Charles (Sherie) Hansen; a sister, Linda (Jerry) Hunt; daughter-in-law, Kava Petty; grandchildren, Phillip Petty (Ivy), and Christopher Petty; great-grandchildren, Blythe Petty, Marine PFC Adam L. Petty, and Brindley Petty; and great-great-grandson, Carson Petty. A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held at a later date.

Laken Elizabeth Boone

Laken Elizabeth Boone of Tullahoma passed this life on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro at the age of 26. Laken was born in Demopolis, AL to Richard and Laurie Boone who survive. She was a student at Auburn University, a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, and enjoyed volunteering at the local animal shelter, and Horse Play in Tullahoma. Laken was greeted in heaven by her grandfathers, Bud Boone and Larry Brewer; and aunts Tonah Boone Montgomery, and Karen Brewer Branch. She is survived by her mother, Laurie Boone; her father, Richard Boone and his wife, Elizabeth; her fiancé, Josh Lopez; three brothers, Landon, Lucas, and Layne Boone, and Wesley Algood; one sister, Maddie Algood; paternal grandmother, Peggy Boone; maternal grandmother, Wooty Brewer; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Visitation for Laken will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 5:00-7:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 7:00pm with close family friend, Bruce Marchand officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Laken’s memory be made to either: Horse Play, P.O. Mark Arthur Gordon II

A Celebration of Life visitation will take place in memory of Mark Arthur Gordon, II, age 38 of Georgetown, KY, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, from 12 Noon until 2 PM. Mark passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, June 13, 2022.

Mark was born on November 3, 1983, in Wiesbadan, Germany, to Mark and Lela Gordon. Mark served his country in the United States Army for eight years as a combat medic. After his release from service, Mark earned an associate degree from Calhoun Community College in Athens, AL and another one from Athens State University, also in Athens, AL.  

Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Willie Mae Gordon of Manchester, TN and James and Joannie Andrews of Portland, TN. He is survived by his parents, Mark, and Lela Gordon; brother, Matthew David Gordon and his wife, Jill, and their son, Liam John Gordon;  Mark’s daughter, Lexie Nolte; several extended family members and friends. Mark was a good man.

James Steven Guess

James Steven Guess, passed this life on June 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his son, Cecil Guess; brother, Timothy Guess and father, James Edward Guess. He leaves behind his mother, Helen Warren; step-father, Larry Warren; sister, Sharon Stewart; brother, Ronald Guess; Fiancé, Lorrie Thompson, nephews, nieces, families and friends. Edward (Dale) Phillips

Edward (Dale) Phillips, age 78 of Tullahoma and Cleveland Tennessee, passed from this life unexpectedly at his home on June 12, 2022. Funeral Services are scheduled for June 17, 2022 at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home at 12 PM (noon). The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward Lee (Ted) and Annie (Irene) Phillips as well as his wife of 54 years, Linda Y. Phillips. Dale’s hope and faith was in the Lord, and he looked forward to reuniting with his wife, friends, and family who have gone before him. Dale was a lifelong pilot with over 11,000 hours of experience and countless “slicked” landings. While he held several jobs in his lifetime: working for his father at Ted Phillips Furniture Store, private flight instructor and manager of Dixie Flying Service, and Beechcraft Queen Air Pilot at Arnold Engineering Development Center, his longest tenure was with Worth, Inc. flying a Beechcraft King Air from 1983-2003. He also served as a manager of shipping and receiving for a few years while at Worth. He continued to fly the King Air privately until his full retirement in 2012. Dale was respected and trusted as an excellent pilot, but his best roles were friend, husband, father, and Poppy. He was tirelessly committed to caring for his family. Dale is survived by his adoring daughter, Sarah Phillips Burris, son-in-law, Colby Burris, granddaughter, Lillie Irene Burris, and pampered cat. He spent his retirement caring for his wife and making many special memories with his family. He loved cooking, traveling, and watching wildlife. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in his younger years as well as motorcycle riding. Dale was a loyal friend with a giving heart and will be missed by many. The family is honored to have the following friends of Dale serve as pallbearers: Charles Parish, John Parish Jr., John Parish III, Robert Parish, Will Parish, and Mike York. Norma Faye Sanders

Norma Faye Sanders, of Decherd, passed this life on Monday, June 13, 2022 at her residence, at the age of 91. Graveside Services are scheduled for Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 4pm at Mt. Gardner Cemetery in Decherd. Family and friends to meet at 3:50 PM for Graveside Services.

Norma was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 23, 1930 to the late George M. Cates and the late Effie Brooks Cates. She was an avid gardener, loved the lady vols and her dog, Billy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Payton Sanders and twin brother, Norman Ray Sanders.

She is survived by her son, Pat (Angie) Sanders of Winchester, TN; brother, George M. Sanders Jr. of Decherd, TN; twin grandchildren, Patrick and Constance Sanders of Winchester, TN and grandson, Allen Keith of Chattanooga, TN; great-grandsons, Chase Ashby and Kane Shadeck both of Winchester, TN; step great-grandchildren, Kaylon and Kayleigh Keith both of Chattanooga, TN ; three nephews and two nieces.

Bill William Wooten

Bill William Wooten, age 73, of Tullahoma, TN passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was born in Huntland, Tennessee on September 27, 1948 to the late Reuben and Beulah Wooten. Bill enjoyed motorcycles riding with his wife and friends, spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing guitar. Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Betty J. Jackson; brothers, Harvey, J.D and James Harley Wooten and two grandchildren, Quinton Young, Rey Marley Howse, Junior King, Irene Osborn, Helen Johnson and Francis Chaney. 

Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Oliva R. Wooten; children, Ricky (Wendy) Wooten, Melisa (Stephen) Young, Angelia (Kherman) House; siblings, Nancy L. Wilkerson, Jessie (Bedford) Crawford, Mary A.
