5/1/12 — Edna Holden

Mrs. Edna Holden, age 102, of Tullahoma, passed away Friday morning at NHC Healthcare in Murfreesboro.

A native of Hillsboro, she was the daughter of the late Burrow and Ida Brown Winton.

She retired from BellSouth as an operator after 46 years of service. She was a member of the Grundy Street Church of Christ and was a volunteer at Harton Regional Medical Center with the American Red Cross for many years and was a member of the Columbia Council of Telephone Pioneers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands; Iro McClenney and Charles Holden.

She is survived by her niece, Jewel (Bob) Hill Griffin of Murfreesboro, one great nephew; Robert S. Griffin of Charlotte, N.C., one step-son; Jerry Holden, and two great great nieces; Ashley and Allison Griffin both of Memphis.

Visitation with the family will be Monday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, at 10:00AM at Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Davis officiating.

5/1/12 — Dale Adams

Mr. Dale Adams, age 72, of Tullahoma, passed away Thursday at the Lynchburg Nursing Center.

He was born in Nettleton, Arkansas and was the son of the late Berton C. and Wilma Vickery Adams.

He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief, having bravely served his country for over 20 years.

He is survived by one daughter; DeJuan (Alan) Null of Tallahassee, Fl., one son; Brian Adams of Tullahoma, three grandchildren, two brothers; Charles (Linda) Adams of Silom Spring, Arkansas, and Billy (Jane) Adams of Dania, Florida, and one sister; Linda (Lynn) Cooper of Ocala, Florida.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, from 9:00AM until 10:00AM at Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Memorial Services will be conducted, Tuesday at 10:00AM in the chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Smith officiating. Military honors will follow the memorial service.

4/29/12 — Bessie Estelle Lawson

Bessie Estelle Lawson, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Thursday, April 26th, 2012, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, at the age of 83.

Ms. Lawson was born in Franklin County to the late Clarence and Effie Mae Lawson.

She formerly worked as an inspector for Wilson Sporting Goods and Tennessee Apparel. Ms. Lawson was a member of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ and Woodmen of the World.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by four brothers, James Lawson, Frank Lawson, Doyle Lawson, and Clarence “Bug” Lawson.

Ms. Lawson is survived by three brothers; G.W. Lawson and wife Betty, Lacy Lawson and wife Alice, Tony Lawson and wife Mary; one sister; Frances Thomas all of Tullahoma; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews; and also a very special friend, Curtis Vaughn.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 28th,2012 from 5:00-9:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 29th, at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Ratliffe officiating.

Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

4/30/12 — Channing Austin Kitts

Channing Austin Kitts, infant son of Jarrett Austin Kitts and Brandy Lynn Thomas of Tullahoma passed this life on Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Channing has three sisters, Erin Lynn Thomas and Emma Layne “Lou” Thomas, and Bailey Brooke Kitts all of Tullahoma; grandparents Donald and Patricia Sparks, Springfield, TN, Alan Dean Smith, Colfax, IN, and William and Lori Kitts, Knoxville, TN, Deborah Lola Austin, Halls, MS; great-grandparents Dashia Smith, Tullahoma, Delores Kitts, Knoxville, TN, Larry and Margie Lyons, Knoxville, TN and Juanita Wright, Halls, MS.

Visitation will be Monday, April 30th from 12:00pm to 2:30pm with Funeral Services immediately following at 2:30pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim McGeehee officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

4/27/12 — James “Jim” Fredrick Bell, Sr.

Mr. James “Jim” Fredrick Bell, Sr. went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2012 ending a 93-journey of selfless service to his family, his church, his community and his country. Mr. Bell was born the second son of William Gilbert Bell, Sr. and Alice Lucile Rawlings Bell in Chattanooga, Tn. on July 15, 1918. Following the death of his father in a railroad accident in 1923., Mr. Bell’s mother moved the family to Tracy City to live with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Crouch Bell widow of Mr. Allen Tribble (Tib) Bell. The house is located next to what is now the Foster-Lay Funeral Home. Mr. Bell was a member of the Tracy City Boy Scouts. Father Adamz, the Episcopal Minister, was the Scout Master who established the renowned Boy Scout Museum. Mr. Bell graduated for James K. Shook School and Grundy County High School in Tracy City. While attending high school, Mr. Bell lettered in football under Coach John Anderson. Mr. Bell’s first career job after high school was at the Crane Plant in Chattanooga. Mr. Bell left the Crane Plant after getting a job as switchman with the NC&StL Railroad at the Cravens Yard in Chattanooga in 1940. On November 9th of the same year he married Charlotte “Lottie” Elizabeth Partin of Tracy City at the Episcopal Church with Father Adamz officiating. Mr. Bell was a patriot and proud member of America’s Greatest Generation, a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Army in Company C of the 718th Railway Operating Battalion from Oct 1943 to Jan 1946. Mr. Bell served in France, Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany. Mr. Bell received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Bell was also awarded the “Cross of Military Service” by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mr. Bell flew from Huntsville, AL to Washinton DC in April 2008 as part of the “Honors Flight”. The “Honors Flight” was established to give World War II veterans a means t visit the W W II Monument (their Monument) at no cost to them. After the war, Mr. Bell returned to his previous job with the NC&StL Railroad in Chattanooga. He later transfered to the Tracy City Branch. His wife’s family lived in Tracy City and he considered this a good move for the family. He moved with his wife and two young boys back into the house where he had lived as a boy. The Tracy City branch line was known as the Mountain Goat Line. At that time the trains were pulled by steam locomotives and primarily carried coal off the mountain at Sewanee to the main line at Cowan. For years Mr. Bell would toss bubble gum to children who would run out to see the train as it passed. Mr. Bell retired from the railroad after 39 years. Mr. Bell also worked at Partin’s Store in Tracy City until the store closed in June 1976 at which time he retired to his farm on Partin’s Farm Road. Mr. Bell was a member of the Hobbes Hill Methodist Church, Tracy City where he had served in all the capacities of the church. Mr. Bell was also a member of the “Sons of Confederacy Veterans” and a member of the NC&StL Railroad Preservation Society.

Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Mrs. Charlotte “Lottie” Elizabeth Partin Bell, his parents William Gilbert, Sr. and Alice Lucile Rawlings Bell, and two brothers William Gilbert Bell, Jr. and Eugene Bell.

Mr. Bell is survived by a sister Margaret Bell Griffin of Red Bank Tn. two sons Lanny Bell of Tracy City and James Bell, Jr. of Huntsville, AL, a daughter Elizabeth Ann Bell of Tracy City; seven grandchildren Carissa Bell Callan, Mark Bell and Jason Bell of Huntsville, AL; Dr. Amy Bell Shirley and Sarah Bell Wilson of Murfreesboro; Jon Wesley Bell of Tracy City and SGT James Bell of Fort Riley, KS, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Clayton Jones and Reverend Danny Coffelt officiating. burial will be in the Plainview cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8 P.M.

Funeral arrangements are made by Foster & Lay Funeral home, 96 St. Clair street, Tracy City.

4/27/12 — Jessie L. Amos

Ms. Jessie L. Amos, age 95, of Tullahoma, passed away Wednesday night at her residence.

A native of Coffee County, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Almeade Blanton Throneberry.

She was a homemaker and was the oldest member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Tullahoma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glen E. Amos, one son; Robert E. Amos, two sisters; Elizabeth T. Martin and Mary K. Woods, and four brothers; Albert, Elzie B., Frank, and Clifton Throneberry.

She is survived by her great grandson; Robert Wayne Amos, and many loving nieces and nephews, including Ms. Minnie Womack, whom worked tirelessly to care for Ms. Amos.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, from 12:00PM until 1:00PM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home with Bro. Elbert Smith officiating.

Burial will be private.

4/28/12 — Willie Mae Long

Ms. Willie Mae Long, age 83, of Tullahoma, passed away Wednesday evening at Harton Regional Medical Center.

A native of Tullahoma, she was the daughter of the late Huey and Emma Weaver Branch.

She was a retired CNA, having worked over 20 years at LifeCare Center of Tullahoma, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Cleveland Long, one great granddaughter, Morgan Meyer, and two brothers, Johnny and Robert Branch.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Nelda Lueneburg and Brenda (Jerry) Thomas, both of Manchester, two sisters, Ann Jones and Virginia Evans, both of Tullahoma, three grandchildren, Eddie (Regina) Hill of Tullahoma, Lisa (Robert) Meyer and Jennifer (Keith) Jones, both of Manchester, five great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM at Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, at 2:00PM, in the chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

4/30/12 — Aworn Kutil

Funeral services for Ms. Aworn Kutil, age 57 of Manchester will be conducted Monday, April 30, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Billy Waters officiating and special family friend Chris Byrd Jendersee speaking.

Burial will follow at Blanton’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Ms. Kutil passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at her residence in Manchester.

She was born August 7, 1954 in Ubolratthani, Thailand. She was previously employed as a seamstress with PCA for over 8 years. Most recently she was employed with M-Tek in Manchester until December 2011. Aworn was well known by family, friends and work associates as a wonderful “Gourmet Cook”. She enjoyed sharing her gourmet dishes with many of her friends, especially her work family. She loved to nurture her beautiful flower garden but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her devoted companion of 21 years, Carmen Pellegrini of Manchester; three sons, Anusorn “Bobby” Kutil and wife, Marysue of Manchester; David Kutil and wife, Meredith of Knoxville, TN; and Gordon Kutil of Beijing, China; three precious grandchildren, Skylar Kutil, Azalie Kutil and Simon Kutil. Also surviving are two very special friends, Renita Floyd and Freida Driver both of Manchester and numerous extended family and loving friends.

4/27/12 — Kenneth Eugene Myers

 Kenneth  Eugene Myers, age 59 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at home with his family by his side.

He was an Industrial Pipe Fitter and Welder and attended the New Life Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, the late Harry Walker Myers; grandchild, Tyler Alexander Barrett; sister, Sharon Kay Lowery; maternal grandparents, Kenneth & Verna Gentry; and paternal grandparents, Clennie & Zelpha Myers.

Kenneth loved life and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, collecting knives and guns, camping, and just spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce Gentry Bailey of Manchester; children, Cory Myers of Nashville,  Nichole Myers of Manchester and  Tiffany Myers of Tullahoma;   sister, Pam Jones of Manchester; brothers, Dennis Myers (Rowena) of White, Georgia   and Jerry Jones (Debby) of Manchester; grandchild, Lillie Grace Williams; special friend, Vickie Sitz; niece, Kay (T.J.) Duncan; nephews, Travis Reed (Amber),  Richard Myers and Jeremy Keele; brother-in-law, Don Lowery; three great nieces, Candace Duncan, Jessica Duncan and Hope Reed; and a host of friends.

4/26/12 — Kenneth Wayne Totherow

Kenneth  Wayne Totherow,  age 50 of  Birmingham, Alabama and former Grundy County, Tennessee resident, passed away on April 16, 2012 in Birmingham.

Kenneth was born in Grundy County, Tennessee and was a farmer and sold produce.

He loved sports, played basketball in his schools years, collected coins and stamps, loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling and meeting new people.

He was of the Pentecostal Faith and attended the First Church of Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Totherow.

He is survived by his
mother Bessie Jean Fults Totherow; sisters, Luverta Totherow, Faye Shrum, Abby Totherow, Anita Totherow and Freinda Totherow and Gloria Totherow;
brothers, Bearl Totherow, Chester Totherow, Anthony Totherow, George Totherow and Ronnie Totherow; and  a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 11:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. with Funeral Service following at 1:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Central Funeral Home with Brother Ralph Hart officiating.

Burial followed at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Viola, Tennessee.
