9/26/12 — Evelyn Earnestine Barnett

Evelyn Earnestine Barnett, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma at the age of 80.

Mrs. Barnett was born in Meadowview, Virginia to the late Miles and Mary Moore.

During her life, she worked as an electrical operator for Cal-Span and was a member of the I.B.E.W.

Mrs. Barnett is survived by her husband, Clarence “Pete” Barnett; two sons, Charles Matthew Barnett and wife Sheila from Murfreesboro and Steve Edward Barnett and wife Gina from Lynchburg; four brothers, Gerald Moore of Bristol, VA, Paul Moore of Bristol, VA, Bobby Moore of MI, Clyde Moore of VA; four sisters, Nellie Jane Patrick of Bristol, VA, Pauline Buckles of Meadowview, VA, Sylvia Flick of Bristol, TN, and Mavis Snodgrass of Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren, Chad Barnett, Evelyn Ross, Caleb Barnett, Josh Barnett and one great-grandchild, Cameron Ross.

Visitation for Mrs. Barnett will be held on Tuesday, September, 25th, 2012 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim McGehee and Bro. Garry Irvin officiating.

Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

9/26/12 — Mildred Parker

Graveside services for Mrs.  Mildred Parker, age 85 of Bumpass, Virginia, formerly of the Goosepond Community  of Coffee County, will be conducted at 11:00am, Wednesday, September 26 at the  Adam Duncan Cemetery with Rev. Barry Phelps officiating. 

Mrs. Parker departed this life on  Thursday, September 20, 2012 in Richmond, Virginia.

Mrs. Parker was born in the  Goosepond Community of Coffee County the daughter of the  late Levi Orman Parker and Inez Miriam  Leek Parker. 

She was an operations  manager for Merrill Lynch, Fenner & Smith and was a veteran of the U.S.  Naval Reserve from 1963 until 1967.  Mrs. Parker was  formerly a  member of the Goosepond Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling and playing  bridge.  She was a graduate of  Manchester Central High School in 1945 and attended Georgia State  University. 

In addition to her  parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Orman Parker, Jr., and by  a sister Bernice Allen. 

Her  survivors are:

One sister-Phyllis Mason of  Virginia;

Two brothers- Austin D. Parker of  Murfreesboro and Christopher Douglas Parker of Lilburn, Georgia.

9/26/12 — William Hardy “Buck” Garrett, Jr

William Hardy “Buck” Garrett, Jr. age 80 of Winchester, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Harton Regional Medical Center.

He served 4 years in the US Air Force and received several letters of commendation for bravery while serving in the Korean conflict. He had 53 years experience as a machinist and retired from Cleveland Pneumatic with 22 years of experience in aircraft components, 16 of which were in managerial capacity. He owned Alpha Technologies, 23 years with son, Randy, where he served as master machinist and trainer. He was known as an avid hunter and fisherman who was loved by his family and many friends, who will miss his love, support, friendship and integrity.

Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, William Hardy and Charlise Garrett and brothers, John and Jimmy Garrett.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Huffer Garrett of Winchester; son and best friend, Randy (Charlotte) Garrett of Winchester; brother, Cordell (Dean) Garrett of Huntland; sisters, Louise Sims of Homewood, IL, Alice Dot Sisk, Loyce Chapman and Joyce (James) Putman, all of Estillfork, AL; sister-in-law, Carole Garrett of Cullman, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family is 5-8 PM Tuesday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Randy Davis, Bro. Walter Rayburn and nephew Michael Chapman officiating.

Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.  Ryan Putman, Cody Putman, Anthony Putman, Dustin Garrett, Greg Garrett, Tim Garrett, Larry Sisk and Michael Chapman will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Lung Association.

9/25/12 — Roger E. Brashears, Jr.

Roger E. Brashears, Jr., age 73 of Tullahoma passed away on Saturday September 22, 2012 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. 

A native of Oakdale, Tn, he was a son of the late Roger E. Brashears, Sr. and Mable Croft Brashears.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tullahoma and retired from Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg.

Roger devoted his career to Jack Daniel’s Distillery and Tennessee tourism. During his 47 years with the Distillery he obtained many awards gaining strides for tourism. Some awards would include South East Tourism Society “Man of the Year”, Tourism Roundtable (TTR) “Exacaliber Award”, “Gladiator of Tourism” and many more. He was one of the founders of the South Eastern Tourism Society as well as Former President of Back Roads Heritage. He also worked with the Eagle Scouts.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 24,2012 from 5-8 P.M. at Lynchburg Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, at 2 P.M. at the Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Herb Hester officiating.

Burial will be on Wednesday September 26, 2012 at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, Tn

Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosemary Brashears of Tullahoma, daughters;Robin (Chris) Walton and Katherine (Joel) Langham all of Tullahoma. Grandsons; Nicholas and Heath Walton and Levi Langham all of Tullahoma and Granddaughter, Abbey Langham also of Tullahoma. Sister, Diane (Charles) Long of Mahwah, NJ.

9/25/12 — William Henry Nelson

William Henry Nelson, age 76 of Winchester, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He was born July 31, 1936 in Winchester; the son of the late William Henry and Nora Mae (Hice) Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was a nurseryman.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will be in Mt. Garner Cemetery, Decherd, TN.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 24, 2012, at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave. NW, Winchester.

9/17/12 — Gloria Jean Simmons

Evangelist Gloria Jean Simmons was called to eternal heavenly rest on Monday, September 17, 2012.

She was born July 13, 1948 to Hazel Stovall Reed and the late George T. Reed in Belvidere, Tennessee. She was the third of six children. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and graduated among the last graduating class of Townsend High School in 1966.

On November 19, 1967 she married the love of her life, Freddie Hamilton Simmons, Sr. Through their love four children were born.

She showed an interest in music at an early age. Her gifts of singing and playing the piano by ear were among the best. She was a devoted member of Beans Creek P.B. Church for over 50 years, where she served in many capacities including Mother Board, choir member, pianist, youth teacher and youth advisor, as well as roles within Friendship U.P.B. Association. She was affiliated with many musical groups throughout middle Tennessee and willingly rendered her gifts whenever she could. In 2010, she accepted God’s call on her life to preach and teach the Word of God. She became a member of New Beginning Apostolic Church of Tullahoma, Tennessee where she served as Assistant Pastor among various other roles. She loved singing, praising the Lord, and witnessing about her God whenever the opportunity presented itself. She was a faithful employee of Tennessee Apparel for over 40 years.

A humble woman, she was raised up by her husband, and her children called her blessed. She loved her grandchildren dearly.  She always acknowledged God, encouraged others to follow Christ, and lifted all the positivity she could in everybody. It is true that she loved God. She loved everyone as we are commanded to do. She was a woman of God who impacted numerous lives throughout her lifetime. Even until her last moments here on earth she ministered to us with love. Indeed, she was a treasure and angel of God’s, truly one of a kind, a diamond in the ruff.

She leaves to forever cherish countless loving memories, a loving mother, Hazel Reed of Belvidere, Tennessee; a devoted husband, Freddie Hamilton Simmons, Sr.; four children, Freddie H. Simmons, Jr. of Belvidere, Tennessee; Sequanta (Keith) Madison of Ooltewah, Tennessee; Jermaine (Brandi) Simmons of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Shawan (Patrick) Trueheart of Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; Jayden  Madison  and Jaiya Madison of Ooltewah, Tennessee; Maleah Simmons of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Paislee Trueheart of Nashville, Tennessee; five brothers and sisters; Kitty (James) Simmons and Robert (Brenda) Reed both of Belvidere, Tennessee; Richard (Grace) Reed, Sr. of Winchester, Tennessee; Scarlett Reed of Belvidere, Tennessee; and Charles (Sarah) Reed, Sr. of  Winchester, Tennessee; a loving mother-in-law; Margaret Simmons of Huntland, Tennessee; five brothers-in-law; nine, sisters-in-law; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances.

9/23/12 — Patricia Ann Munger

Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Ann Munger, age 90, of Manchester will be conducted Wednesday, September 26, 2012, graveside at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Sacramento, California.

Local visitation will be held Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Munger passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Manchester.

She was born June 7, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of the late George Spencer and Loretta Flangan Spencer.

She retired as a clerk from the State of CA, Department of Motor Vehicles. Mrs. Munger enjoyed crocheting and quilting as well as cooking and flower gardening. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Munger, Sr., a son, Frank Munger, Jr., sister, Marie Martin and brothers, Willard, George, James and Joe Spencer.

Survivors include, Catherine D. Lovedy of Manchester; John W. Munger of Bremmerton, WA; six grandchildren, James Munger, Eddie Munger, Peter Munger, Kirsten Bradshaw, Victoria Miller and Charles Agnew; six great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

9/23/12 — Carl E. Brewer, Jr.

Mr. Carl E. Brewer, Jr. age 49, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Friday, September 21, 2012, in Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester.

He was a pipe fitter by profession and was preceded in death by his brothers, Jason and Joshua Long.

Survivors include his mother, Billie Van Geary of Tracy City; father, Carl E. Brewer, Sr. of Palmer; step-sons, Josh and Steven Medley of Manchester; brother, Van Brewer of Monteagle, Robby Long of Tracy City and Hershel Brewer of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3:00 Sunday in the Foster & Lay Funeral Home Chapel. Ministers James Caldwell and Clayton Jones will officiate.

Burial will be in the City Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be 4-9 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

9/23/12 — Rosa Nelle Russell

Rosa Nelle Russell, age 91 of Huntland, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Southern TN Medical Center in Winchester.

She was born July 7, 1921 in Huntland, Tennessee; the daughter of the late Floyd Elliott and Leona (Green) Cochran.

Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Russell and son, Tommy Russell.

Surviving are son, Larry Ray (Becky) Russell of Huntland, TN; grandchildren, Tommy (Vickie) Russell, II, Richard (Stacy) Russell and Shannon (Keith) Arnold, niece, Diane Newton, nephew, Douglas Cochran, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with the Rev. Mike Robertson officiating. Interment will be in Russell Cemetery, Huntland, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave. NW, Winchester.

9/26/12 –Susan Tomzil Gainey Northcut

Memorial services for Mrs. Susan Tomzil Gainey Northcut, age 86, of Manchester will be conducted Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Mr. Steve Wilshire and Mr. Robert Gainey officiating.

Inturnment will follow services at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Tullahoma, TN.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Northcutt passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Horizon Health & Rehab Center in Manchester.

She was born April 2, 1926 in Cairo, Georgia the daughter of the late James Holly Gainey and Carrie Ann Kincaid Gainey.

While residing in Jacksonville, Florida, Miss Gainey met her soon to be husband, Mr. John Wilson Northcut at her local church. They married in 1952, started their family and resided there until moving to Manchester in 2006 to be in closer proximity to their daughter. Mrs. Northcut was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She was an accomplished self taught seamstress who also enjoyed counted cross stitching. She was known by all to have a servant’s heart and often organized meals for members of her church in their time of need. While in Jacksonville, she attended the Lake Forest Church of Christ and was a current member of New Union Church of Christ in Manchester.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Wilson Northcut who passed away June 20, 2012; a son-in-law, David Seaborne; and four brothers, Dwight Thomas Gainey, Owen Kincaid Gainey, David Albert Gainey and Redmon Robert Gainey.

Survivors include a son, James A. Northcut and wife, Donna, of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Lee Ann Seaborne of Manchester; three grandchildren, Weston Northcut, Michael Northcut and Jonathan Seaborne and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
