11/14/12 — Janet Brown

Mrs. Janet Brown of Tullahoma, TN, age 84, passed away Wednesday, November 14 at Harton Regional Medical Center.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

11/17/12 — Jimmy Scott Thomas

Mr. Jimmy Scott Thomas, age 56, of Decherd, passed away Wednesday, November 7 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester, TN.

A native of Barstow, CA, he is the son of Ernest J. Thomas, Jr. (Betty) of Capac, MI and Janice Williams of Warren, MI .

He was employed by U-Haul as a hitch mechanic.

He is survived by a daughter Christina Call of Warren, MI, and two sons Jesse Thomas of Decherd, TN, and Joel Thomas of Clarksville, TN. In addition to his children, he is survived by two sisters Robin Garrison of Clinton Township, MI and Pamela Thomas of Del Ray Beach, FL, two brothers Jerry Thomas of Chesterfield Township, MI and Kerry Williams of Punta Gorda, FL, one son-in-law David Call of Tullahoma, TN, seven grandchildren Gabriella, Isabella, Dakota, David Jr., Grace, Victoria, and Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Estill Springs City Park in Estill Springs, TN.

11/16/12 — Jack Hawkersmith

Jack Hawkersmith, former Tullahoma business leader has died. Louis Jackson (Jack) Hawkersmith died Wednesday, November 14th, at Harton Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Winchester, Tennessee, September 3rd, 1934, and moved to Tullahoma with his parents, Bill and Christine R. Hawkersmith.

The family established Rollins and Levan Furniture Store in Tullahoma where Jack worked his entire adult life. He became co-owner upon the death of his father. Jack graduated from Tullahoma High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was known for his ready smile and his kindness to his customers. Jack was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed Tullahoma High School and UT Vols Football. He took great pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. Hawkersmith and Christine Rollins Hawkersmith.

He is survived by his former wife, Jewel B. Hawkersmith; two sons, Richard Louis (Dawn) Hawkersmith, Rodney Douglas (Glenda) Hawkersmith; grandchildren, Jordan Hawkersmith, Justin Hawkersmith, Brandon Hawkersmith, Audrey Hawkersmith, and Chase Hawkersmith; two sisters, Joanne (John) Roberson, and Betty (Roy) LeCroy; nephews, Russ Roberson, Mitch Roberson, Nate Roberson, Mike LeCroy, Matt LeCroy, and niece, Lisa LeCroy Grady. During his extended illness, he was cared for by Jewel B. Hawkersmith, their children, grandchildren, and the caring people at The LifeCare Center of Tullahoma.

Visitation for Mr. Hawkersmith will be held on Friday, November 16th, 2012 from 11:00am-1:00pm with a graveside service following at 2:00pm at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Bro. David Wall officiating.

11/15/12 — Coach L.E. Oakley

Coach  L.E. Oakley, age 85 of  Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on November 12, 2012 at the Erlanger Health  System in Chattanooga, TN.
Coach Oakley was born in Livingston, TN to his  parents, the late Roy B. Oakley and Edna H. Ensor Oakley and was also preceded  in death by his brother, Roy B. Oakley, Jr., sister, Marie Oakley  Verble and grandfathers, Lewis Oakley and Reverend Simmon Ensor.
Coach  Oakley will be fondly remembered as a Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal and  Athletic Director for generations of students at Coffee County Central High  School. He had also served as the Water Front Director in charge of the life  guards at the Standing Stone State Park in the summers from high school until  1985 and was a United States Navy World War II Veteran. He was named All  American for his successes playing football as left end at Austin Peay State  University and was the second person to be elected to the Austin Peay State  University Hall of Fame.
Coach Oakley is survived by his loving wife, Jean Buck  Oakley of Manchester, TN; sons, Bobby Oakley and his wife Ann of Celina,  TN  and Eddie Oakley and his wife Jennifer of Lake Cormorant, MS; brother,  Charles (Grace) Oakley; three grandchildren, Clint (Kate) Oakley of Athens,  GA,  Jennifer Oakley of Los Angeles, CA  and Reed Oakley of Knoxville,  TN; special friends, David & Mert Duvall; and a host of other relatives and  friends.
 Visitation will be on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 5:00 p.m.   until 8:00 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN.
A Memorial Tribute  will be conducted as part of the ceremonies at the Overton County, Tennessee  football game on Friday, November 16, 2012.

11/16/12 — John W. Finch

John W. Finch, of Tullahoma, passed this life at his residence on Tuesday, November 13th, 2012 at the age of 74.
Mr. Finch was born in Tullahoma to the late John B. and Wanda Finch. During his life, he worked as a truck driver for the Trott Group. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Jackson.
Mr. Finch is survived by two daughters; Christie Sutton and husband Tony of Murfreesboro, and Renee Sanders and husband Ricky of Tullahoma; six grandchildren, Marie Quick, Joshua Quick, Casey Sanders, Raven Sanders, Brandon Jackson, and Sydney Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Jaiden Quick and Riley Boylan.
Visitation for Mr. Finch will be held Thursday, November 15th, 2012 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00pm.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 16th, 2012 at 11:00am at Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma with Bro. Jack Lambert officiating.

11/8/12 — Roy Kenneth Dement

Mr. Roy Kenneth Dement of Normandy, a retired construction company owner, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home after an extended illness.

A native of Bedford County, he was born July 7, 1926, the son of the late Arthur Jackson and Roma Bramblett Dement. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and had many interests. He was a long-time private pilot and former member of the “Tullahoma Bunch” flying group. He was also a former member of the board of directors of the Bedford County Farm Bureau and was lifelong member of the Normandy Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David A. Dement, and a sister, Polly Dement Oettinger.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Means Dement; three daughters, Kathleen Gann, Mary (Mike) Nadeau and Eileen (Louis) Day; six grandchildren, Carey Brown, Lauren Gann, Sara Muscha, Celeste Everett, Eric Hurd and Harrison Day; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Dement, and several nephews and cousins.

A private family visitation will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Daves-Culberson Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 12 noon at Hollywood Cemetery in Wartrace with Rev. Monnie Caine officiating. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Normandy Presbyterian Church in Normandy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Normandy Presbyterian Church or the American Farmland Trust.

11/15/12 — Estelle Bryan

Estelle Bryan of Manchester, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. She was 72.

Mrs. Bryan loved traveling, especially Gatlinburg and enjoyed working in her flower garden. She and her husband were the owners of Bryan’s Janitorial Service for over 45 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Bryan.

She is survived by her daughter, Roxanna Bryan; Son and daughter-in-law, Joe (Theresa) Bryan; grandchildren, Kyle Bryan, Ashley Murphy and Jeffery Riddle; great grandchildren, Nevaeh Murphy and Jaylei Murphy; brothers, Franklin Ferrell and Autry Ferrell; sister, Jean Waits; niece, Katherine Frizzell.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home chapel with David Costello officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 10:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Estelle Bryan Fund, C/O Peoples Bank, Manchester, Tennessee.

11/15/12 — Elinor Franklin Petty

Elinor Franklin Petty, age 92 of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday at Boulevard Terrace Nursing and Rehab in Murfreesboro.

She was a homemaker. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Kathleen Rosborough; husband, Leabern Petty; and daughter, Kathy Rollins.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Tom) White of Murfreesboro; sister, Claytie Cook of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Keith Farrar, Tony and Tim Raissian; great grandchildren, Abby and Shelby Farrar; and son-in-law, Hamid Raissian of Atlanta, GA.

Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Jennings Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Jennings Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Richard Logan and Bro. Dan Clevenger officiating.

Interment will be at Lynchburg Cemetery.

11/13/12 — Millard Jim Sherrill

Millard  Jim Sherrill,  age 72 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at  the Stone Crest Medical Center in Smyrna, TN.

He was born in Hillsboro, TN to  his parents, the late Walter Mac Sherrill and Allie Pearl Cunningham Sherrill  and was preceded in death also by his sister, Josephine Lemings.

Mr. Sherrill is  survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Brewer Sherrill of Hillsboro, TN; children,  Martha Ann (David) Waldron of Pensacola, FL,  Jimmy Sherrill and Rhonda  (Mark) Ponos both of Wilmington, NC,  Ginger Jackson of Hillsboro, TN   and James (Jenny) Sherrill of Hillsboro, TN; nine grandchildren,  Barbara (Luke) Jones, Jessica (Johnathan) Burton, Brandon Sherrill, Kaylan  Sherrill, Dalton Jackson, Amalia Ponos, Alexia Ponos, Andrea Sherrill and Tyler  Sherrill; four great-grandchildren, Lily Jones,  Abbie Jones, Urijah Burton and “soon to arrive” Liam Burton; sister, Inez Jones;  brothers, George Sherrill, Fred Sherrill and Cecil Sherrill; and a host of other  relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 5:00  p.m.  until  8:00 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be conducted on  Tuesday morning, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Central  Funeral Home with Ronnie Brewer officiating.

Burial will follow at the Prairie  Plains Methodist Cemetery.

11/14/12 — Dennis Gentry Young

Funeral services for Mr. Dennis Gentry Young, age 68, of Antioch, TN will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow at Gnat Hill Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Young passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Mr. Young was born May 30, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late John Wiley and Lula Mae Tolbert Young.  He moved to Tennessee as a young boy and lived in the Murfreesboro area for many years.  He relocated to Missouri for a few years then returned to Murfreesboro and then to Antioch. He retired from Industco where he was a Die Cutter.   He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing with his remote control trucks and spending time with his dogs, Sneakers and Spartus and cats, Demon and Midnight.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Bunny McCullough and one sister, Leatrice Young.

Mr. Young is survived by two sons, Chad Young of Rockvale, TN. and Russell Young and his wife, Nanette of Lebanon, TN; one daughter Rhonda Richmond of Antioch, TN; one brother Roger Dale McCullough of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Duncan and Ky’Anne Richmond , Cody, Joshua and Hannah Young and Dirk Busho; one great grandchild, Zachariah Richmond and the “Love of His Life”, Joanne Fletcher Young of Antioch.
