Coach L.E. Oakley, age 85 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on November 12, 2012 at the Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, TN.
Coach Oakley was born in Livingston, TN to his parents, the late Roy B. Oakley and Edna H. Ensor Oakley and was also preceded in death by his brother, Roy B. Oakley, Jr., sister, Marie Oakley Verble and grandfathers, Lewis Oakley and Reverend Simmon Ensor.
Coach Oakley will be fondly remembered as a Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director for generations of students at Coffee County Central High School. He had also served as the Water Front Director in charge of the life guards at the Standing Stone State Park in the summers from high school until 1985 and was a United States Navy World War II Veteran. He was named All American for his successes playing football as left end at Austin Peay State University and was the second person to be elected to the Austin Peay State University Hall of Fame.
Coach Oakley is survived by his loving wife, Jean Buck Oakley of Manchester, TN; sons, Bobby Oakley and his wife Ann of Celina, TN and Eddie Oakley and his wife Jennifer of Lake Cormorant, MS; brother, Charles (Grace) Oakley; three grandchildren, Clint (Kate) Oakley of Athens, GA, Jennifer Oakley of Los Angeles, CA and Reed Oakley of Knoxville, TN; special friends, David & Mert Duvall; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN.
A Memorial Tribute will be conducted as part of the ceremonies at the Overton County, Tennessee football game on Friday, November 16, 2012.
