4/30/14 —- Richard C. Harris, Jr.

Richard C. Harris, Jr., age 89 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed away into rest on April 27, 2014 at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Harris of Hillsboro, TN; niece, Janice R. Hays of of Pinson, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

4/30/14 —- Brayden Marshall Jones

Graveside services for Brayden Marshall Jones, infant son of Austin Jones and Jasmine Bell Jones, of Manchester, will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Summitville Cemetery. 

Brayden passed away on Wednesday, April 23 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

 
In addition to his parents, Brayden is survived by his maternal grandparents, Jerry Bell and Vhonda (Steve) Jernigan; paternal grandparents, David W. Jones and Elizabeth (Kenny) Keher; a sister, Gabriella Jones; and his twin brother, Jett Jones; and Great Grandmother, Wanda Bailey.

4/30/14 — Margaret “Marge” Mae Harmon

Mrs. Margaret “Marge” Mae Harmon, age 58 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, April 30 from 12 Noon until service time.

Mrs. Harmon a native of Chicago was the daughter of the late Ralph and Dolly Zozo Crisman.

She was a waitress and had worked at Cracker Barrel in Manchester. She was of the Catholic Faith. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She enjoyed cooking, playing the lottery and posting on Facebook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Crisman Jr. and Leonard Crisman.
She is survived by her husband, Rodney Harmon of Tullahoma; one son, Rodney Harmon Jr and his wife, Tonya of Ashland City; one daughter, Marie Harmon of Tullahoma; one brother, Stewart Crisman and his wife, Gayle of Rockford, IL; two sisters, Geraldine Hevner and her husband, Keith of Manchester and Sharon Crisman of Chicago; four grandchildren and one on the way; Xeven, David, Kassondra and Robert; three great grandchildren, Ethan, Ezra and Zoey and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations the family has requested donations be made to the memorial fund at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

4/25/14 —- Edith Layne Shirley

Mrs. Edith Layne Shirley age 102 of Layne’s Cove near Pelham, TN passed from this life on Friday evening, April 25, 2014, at Willows of Winchester Health & Rehab Center.

She was born October 30, 1911 a daughter of the late W.T. and Hattie Partin Hill. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Abe Layne and her husband, Bob Shirley; brothers, Joe and Osler Hill; sister, Lucille Brown; grandson, Gary Layne.

 

Mrs. Edith had worked for many years at Wonder Cave where she was a guide for the many thousands of visitors who stopped at the cave every year.

 

She is survived by a son, Sherman Layne of Layne’s Cove; daughters, Virginia Zimsek, Streetsboro, Ohio and Teresa Ann Layne, Maryland; grandchildren, Sharon Hunt, Teresa Pilcher and Daniel Zimsek; great-grandchildren, Lacey Hunt, Alex Hunt and Amber Layne; sisters, Fermenda Hassebrock of Layne’s Cove, Mary Lee Johnson, Tracy City and Margaret Jordan, Beaumont, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at a later date. flower 1

4/29/14 —- Vernon Boyd Robinson

Memorial services for Mr. Vernon Boyd Robinson, age 78 of Manchester will be conducted at 12 Noon, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Terry officiating.

Visitation with the Robinson family will be from 11 am, Tuesday until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Robinson passed away Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Mr. Robinson was born in Rutherford County, Tennessee the son of the late Jessie C. and Katy F. Ferrell Robinson. 

He was retired from the E. Rowe Foundry in Martinsville, Illinois and was a member of the Gnat Hill and
Lumley Stand Church of Christ.  Mr. Robinson was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the guitar, the fiddle and the banjo.  He was also a song writer. 

His survivors are:

Two Daughters- Clarice Hehe of Manchester and Martha (Steve) Park of Homestead, Florida;

One Son- Clarence Robinson of Manchester;

One Brother- Virgil Robinson of Manchester;

One Sister- Gladys Padgett of Murfreesboro;

Five Grandchildren- Hylary Hehe, Anthony M. Hehe & his fiancé Tiffany Newcomm,
Michael Park, Sandra (Matt) Keeslar a and Mary (Thomas) Durland;

Four great grandchildren.

4/30/14 —- Robert Pierson Smith

Robert Pierson Smith, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Friday, April 25th, 2014 at his residence at the age of 90.

He was the son of the late Katherine Smith Heinz and Ray Smith and step-son of the late Bill Heinz of Ottawa, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Parsons Smith and his son, Robert Parsons Smith.

Mr. Smith leaves five daughters, Cindy (George) Garland of Lyles, TN, Leanne (Tom) Butchko of Franklin, TN, Melanie (Harlan) Smith-Howard of Nashville, Nancy (Tim) Maroney of Nashville, and Amy (Jeff) Bethurum of Franklin, TN; and one sister, Dorothy (Clarence) Sloter of San Diego, CA. He also leaves eight grandchildren Lisa Glenn, Leslie Maus, Beth Valdovinos, Brad Garland, Kymberly Armstrong, Shannon Butchko, Matthew Maroney and Carothers Bethurum; and seven great-grandchildren Alexandra Glenn, Lydia Valdovinos, Brylee Armstrong, Caylinn Armstrong, Jade Hibpshman, Houston Valdovinos, and Maddux Armstrong.

R.P. served his country proudly in the United States Army in World War II, including time with the Division of Camp Forrest, Tennessee, where he met Martha. He also served in Camp Edwards, Massachusetts, Camp Carrabelle, Florida, Fort Ord and Camp Roberts, California, Townsville, Australia and New Guinea. He also served in the Philippines and Palawan Island. The Army recalled him for duty in Korea in September 1950, where he arrived at Wonsan Harbor on Christmas Day, 1952. There, he served as Medical Aide on nightly infantry patrols. He tended to the wounded and assured that any dead were returned to U.S. lines. He returned to the U.S. via Alaska. He was still on furlough when he accepted a job producing motion pictures at AEDC, where he thoroughly enjoyed a 30-year career at Arnold Engineering Development Center and retired in 1983. After his retirement, he was very active with the 532nd EBSR (Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment) Veteran Group.

Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 11:00 am-1:00 pm with the funeral to immediately follow at 1:00 pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Chad Conn officiating.

Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors.vet

4/27/14 —– Barry Steven Keener

Mr. Barry Steven Keener, age 57, of Manchester, Tennessee, passed from this life on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, William Monroe Keener and one brother, Mike Keener.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Lisa Harris Keener of Manchester, Tennessee; mother, Mary Jo Keener Austin of McMinnville, Tennessee; one daughter, Niki Keener Young and husband, Skip, of McMinnville, Tennessee; step-father, Rillie Austin of McMinnville, Tennessee; one grandson, Steven Japheth Keener; one step-sister, Leah Seals and husband, Randy, of Troutman, North Carolina; four step-brothers, Mark Austin and wife, Karen, of Smyrna, Tennessee, Michael Austin and wife, Barbara, of McMinnville, Tennessee, Thomas Austin and wife, Michele, of Dunedin, Florida, and Jimmy Austin and wife, Annette, of Cookeville, Tennessee; sister and brother-in-law, LeAnne Jaco and husband, Dale of Manchester, Tennessee; sister-in-law, JoAnne Harris, best friend and brother-in-law, Steve Harris of Commerce, Texas and sister-in-law, Brenda Harris of Fairbanks, Alaska; three nieces, Katie Keener Herron and husband, Ben, of Smyrna, Tennessee, Kristy and husband, Kevin Simons of McMinnville, Tennessee and Tammy Price of Commerce, Texas; six nephews, William Keener and wife, Rose, of Smyrna, Tennessee, Paul Keener and wife, Jamie, of Smyrna, Tennessee, Mark Jaco and wife, Meleah, of McMinnville, Tennessee, Anthony Jaco and wife, Crystal of Manchester, Tennessee, Chris Hayes and wife, Alicia, of McMinnville, Tennessee and Craig Harris and wife, Martina of Munich, Germany; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Mr. Keener was of the Church of God Faith. He enjoyed old cars, firearms, and old coins. He had an artistic talent and loved drawing. Steve was known for being a hard worker, a happy and funny person, who loved people. This man who never met a stranger, loved life and socializing with his family of brothers at Lowe’s in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His memory will be cherished by the loving family and friends he leaves behind.

Funeral Services for Mr. Steve Keener will be conducted on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Michael Harris officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Morrison, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, Manchester, Tennessee.

4/26/14 —- Wanza Aletha Capshaw

Mrs. Wanza Aletha Capshaw, age 80, of Normandy, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, April 26 at 1 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Rhoton and Bro. Bill Bynum officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, April 25 from 5 -9 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

A native of Moore County, she was the daughter of the late Wiley and Edna Woosley Smith.

Mrs. Capshaw was a homemaker and member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and camping. She and her husband, the late Wendell Alan Capshaw were members of the Gold Wing Club and enjoyed touring the United States on their motorcycles.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Alan Capshaw; one daughter, Pamela Jean Phillips and four brothers, Claude, Clyde, Clayton and Carl Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Page and her fiancé, Ron Russ of Manchester; twelve grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

4/27/14 — Burton M. “Melvin” Auspitz

Mr. Burton M. “Melvin” Auspitz,  age 83 of Manchester, Tennessee passed away, Wednesday, April 23, 2014  at TVHCS, York Campus, Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Concord Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

Mr. Auspitz was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Charles and Ray Grosnoff Auspitz.

He was a U S Army veteran having served 10 years of active duty.

He is survived by one son, Andy Auspitz of Manchester; three daughters, Glenda Buchanan and her husband Doug of Manchester, Tina Auspitz of Michigan, Carla Norbitt of Washington; one sister, Phyllis Auspitz Cohen of Hatfield, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren plus one on the way, three great great grandchildren plus two on the way; several nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania; also the staff and patients on CLC West at the VA Nursing Home in Murfreesboro.

Mr. Auspitz loved to travel, raise horses, play solitaire and watch John Wayne movies.  He was a diehard Seattle Sea Hawks fan.

GREGORY ALAN BROWN, age 55, of Winchester, Tenn., passed away suddenly at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester on Sunday, April 20, 2014.

Mr. Brown was born in Winchester, to Frances Tatum Brown and the late Cecil Brown.

His favorite hobby was watching UT Football.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil “Papa” Brown and brother, Chuck Brown.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Brown, mother, Frances Brown both of Winchester, sister, Yvonne (Tommy) Mahaffa of Tullahoma, niece, Brandi Brown of Estill Springs and nephew, Brian Brown of Winchester.

No services are scheduled at this time.
