5/3/14 —- Wilma Dean McMasters

Mrs. Wilma Dean McMasters, age 81, of Estill Springs, TN, passed away Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014, at her residence.

She was born in Manchester, TN., and was the daughter of the late Matt and Maude Walden Jones.

She was a homemaker and a member of Turkey Creek Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hardy McMasters, one son Jeff (Alma) McMasters of Estill Springs, two daughters Beverly (William Michael) Blankenship of Normandy and Peggy Russell of Tullahoma, two sisters Ruby Shelton and Jean Spry, one brother Bill Jones, all of Manchester, two granddaughters Michelle (Justin) Schafer of Meridianville, AL., and Valerie Russell of Tullahoma, three grandsons William David Blankenship of Normandy, Joshua Jordan of Nashville, Alex McMasters of Estill Springs, great grandchildren Bryce and Natalie Schafer of Meridianville, AL., and Bryson Jordan of Tullahoma.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 PM Saturday in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jim Fields officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma, TN.

5/4/14 —- Ruth “Mama” Grimes

Ruth “Mama” Grimes, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 at NHC Tullahoma at the age of 84.

Mama Grimes was born in Winchester, Tennessee to the late Robert Lee and Lillian McNatt Abbott.

She was a former employee of South Central Bell as an operator and assignment clerk where she retired after working for 35 years. She was a 30 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary, a 45 year member of the Telephone Pioneers and was also a member of the former Lincoln Heights Baptist Church in Tullahoma. Mama Grimes never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone who was ever in need, and you never walked into her home without being offered something to eat and drink.

In addition to her parents, Mama Grimes is preceded in death by her husband, Howard P. Grimes; companion, Hulon Metcalfe; brother, Bob Abbott; and daughter-in-law, Dona Grimes.

She is survived by three sons, Robert “Bubba” Grimes and his wife Mary of Estill Springs, Wayne Grimes of Murfreesboro, and Layne Grimes and his wife Debbie of Shelbyville; one sister, Mabel Tucker of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Scott Grimes and his wife Sherry, Chad Grimes and his wife Stephanie, Emily Grimes and Annie Abbott Grimes; and eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lindsay, McKenzie, Austin, Andrew, Knox, Anders and Houston.

Visitation for Mama Grimes will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 4th, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. William Young officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.flower4

Richard Harding Poff Jr. of Tullahoma, passed this life on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014.

Visitation for Mr. Poff will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 2014 from 4:00-7:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 at 11:00am at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

4/30/14 —- James Timothy Byrd

flower11Mr. James Timothy Byrd, age 50 of Manchester, Tennessee passed away, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Medical Center of Manchester.

No services are scheduled.

Mr. Byrd, a native of Jacksonville, FL was the son of the late Kenneth and Jeanette Arnett Byrd.

He was a contractor for the Florida Department of Transportation. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races.

He is survived by one brother, Robert McCumbers of Manchester and one sister, Patricia Nelson and her husband, Ricky of Manchester.

5/1/14 —- Opal H. Powell

Opal Katherin Hickey Powell, age 85, passed away on April 27, 2014 at her home in Manchester, Tennessee.

Mrs. Powell was a homemaker, a former member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manchester.

She was born in Lee County, Virginia to her parents, the late Thomas Hickey and Willie Maggie Doughty Hickey. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, the late John Doughty, Donald Hickey and Carl Young.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Dewey Powell of Manchester, TN; son, Robert T. Powell and his wife Shellia of Manchester, TN; daughter, Donna P. Willis and her husband Steve of Manchester, TN; four grandchildren, Alecia Willis of Raleigh, NC, Tyson Powell of Murfreesboro, TN, Sonya Willis Sherrill and her husband Todd of Manchester, TN and Joshua C. Powell and his wife Allison of Manchester, TN; three great-grandchildren, Haley Koren Sherrill, Kyra Sherrill and Henry Powell; two dear nieces, Ginger and Barbara; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Howard A. Hill, age 82 of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, May 1 at 2 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Shrum and Bro. Vernon Wagner officiating.

Burial will follow at Baker Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, April 30 from 5 -9 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late Joe and Hassie McKelvey Hill.

He was a salesman for Purity Dairies and a member of the Pentecostal Church. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed farming and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Joe L, Odis and Lawrence Hill and one sister, Jewell Stevens.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Henley Hill of Hillsboro; one son, James Carter Hill and his wife, Debra of Hillsboro; one daughter, Arlene Campbell and her husband, Ray of Hillsboro; three grandsons, Josh Campbell and his wife, Laura of Fayetteville and Jeremy and Cody Hill of Tracy City; one great grandson, Chevy L. Hill of Monteagle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

4/26/14 — Patricia Ann Jones

Mrs. Patricia Ann Jones, age 69, of Readyville, TN, passed away Saturday night, April 26, 2014, at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester, TN.

A native of Tullahoma, TN., she was the daughter of Mrs. Gladys Tawwater Burnette and the late Herman Jones and was of the Baptist faith.

She was a huge Elvis Presley fan and loved her family.

In addition to her father, she is also preceded in death by one brother Terry Jones. 


She is survived by her mother, sisters Diana (Wayne) Allen and Brenda Slotman, special nephew Jarrett Allen, four other nieces and two other nephews.

4/27/14 — Myles Morgan Vanhook

Mr. Myles Morgan Vanhook, age 53, of Tullahoma, TN, passed away Friday morning, April 25, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL.

A native of Tullahoma, TN., he was the son of Mrs. Nolene Williams Vanhook and the late Billy W. Vanhook and was of the Church of Christ faith. In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by one sister Marianne Vanhook Pickett, one brother Martin Allen Vanhook, and one niece Kara Pickett. 


He is survived by his wife, Connie Wilson Vanhook of Manchester, his mother Nolene Vanhook of Tullahoma, brothers Michael (Sue) Vanhook of Huntsville, AL., Mark Vanhook and Mitchell (Angie) Vanhook of Tullahoma, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. 


Visitation with the family will be Sunday, April 27, 2014, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 PM in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Byron Lawrence and Brother Bob Salmon officiating.

Burial will follow in New Center Grove Cemetery in Franklin County, TN.

Mr. Thomas E. Brooks, age 90 of Lynchburg, Tennessee passed away, April 28, 2014 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 10 AM at the Lynchburg Funeral Chapel with Bro. Wayne Cable and Bro. Mark Watkins officiating.

Burial will be at Hurricane Cemetery in Moore County.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5-8 PM at Lynchburg Funeral Home.

Mr. Brooks a native of Madison Co. Alabama was the son of the late John Brooks and Cora Terrell Brooks.

He was a farmer and a retired Saw Operator at Campbell and Dann in Tullahoma and a member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Brooks loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to garden, hunting, knife collecting and his pets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Brooks, brother, Johnny Brooks and a sister, Mary Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Aline Brooks of Lynchburg, his son, John Thomas Brooks and his wife Janice of Tullahoma, daughters; Mary Florence Brooks Thompson and her husband James of Lynchburg and Judy Carolyn Brooks Coss and her husband Ray of Murfreesboro. Special niece, Linda Nix of Lynchburg and a special friend Wanda martin of Lynchburg. 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

4/27/14 —- Grace Dorsett Evans

Grace Dorsett Evans, passed this life on Sunday, April 27th, 2014 at Harton Regional Medical Center at the age of 95.

Mrs. Evans was born in Hudson County, New Jersey to the late Walter and Nellie Monroe Dorsett.

During her life she worked as a legal secretary for over 50 years and was a former member of the Junior Orphans Friends of Leonia, New Jersey. Mrs. Evans was also an avid supporter of Animal Humane Organizations and Societies.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Hardie Murray Evans who passed away in 1982; brother, Robert Dorsett; sister Norma Pattison; brother-in-law, John Pattison; and nephew John Robert Pattison.

Mrs. Evans is survived by one son, Bruce Evans and his wife Olivia of Normandy, TN; one daughter, Kathy Ragan of Virginia Beach, VA; one niece, Sandra Hullen-Butler and her husband Tom of Chandler, AZ; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Hedges and John Evans and his wife Paula; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Hedges and Karissa Evans.
