11/18/14 —- Elsie Augusta Reynolds

Mrs. Elsie Augusta Reynolds, age 90, of Tullahoma passed away Saturday at Life Care Center in Tullahoma.

She was born in Coffee, TN to the late Solomon Levi Stone and Sarah Elizabeth Grooms Stone. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Robert E. Reynolds, two brothers, Ernest Wesley Stone and Charles Lesley Stone, 3 grandsons, Scott Carter, Charles Williams Jr., Chris Williams, great grandson, Jason Baker, two great granddaughters, Ashley and Nichole Carter and one beloved daughter in law Marie Reynolds.

Elsie always believed in God and Family values first. She rode in the very first Horse show parade in Shelbyville, worked at Tennessee Overall Factory in Tullahoma, also worked for General Telephone Electronics in Huntsville, Alabama for 7 years making telephones and South Central Human Services as a homemakers aid. Elsie also sat with the sick and elderly. In her spare time she made clothes and quilts and sold Avon for 30 years. She liked to write poetry, reading fishing and watching birds. Elsie has lived in Memphis, Huntsville, Oak Ridge, Manchester and Tullahoma.

Funeral services for Mrs. Reynolds will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Brazier officiating.

Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 till 9:00 PM Monday at Tullahoma Funeral Home.

She is survived by five children, Sarah Carter of Tullahoma, Mildred Broadrick of Tullahoma, Alan Reynolds of Tullahoma, Joan Lawson of Tullahoma and Stan Reynolds of Wartrace, 10 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

11/18/14 — Lizzie Mae Kiger Murphy

Lizzie Mae Kiger Murphy of Tullahoma, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, November 15th, 2014.

She was born on December 16th, 1933 in Barren Plains, Tennessee to the late Samuel Richard and Nancy Morris Kiger.

She retired from the Robertson County Board of Education where she worked in food service at Watauga Elementary School in Ridgetop, Tennessee. She later was employed by the United Methodist Publishing House in Nashville. Liz was a member of the Tullahoma First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Wilson Murphy of Tullahoma; three daughters, Gwendolyn Gail Murphy (Larry) Filler of Parsons, West Virginia; Nancy Diane (Henk) Pieterse of Evanston, Illinois; and Lesa Marie Murphy (Jody) Baltz of Tullahoma; three sisters, Jeanette Wilkins, Betty Sue Johnson, and Joyce (Jerry) Pitt; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Kiger Whitaker and one great-grandchild, Maverick Thomas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm with a memorial service to follow in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel in Tullahoma at 1:00 pm.

11/18/14 —- BRENDA PRINCE MILLER

BRENDA PRINCE MILLER, age 70, of Belvidere, Tenn., departed this life on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville following a brief illness.

She was born in Blytheville, Ark. to the late Carl and Bessie Brock Prince.flower2

She was retired from AT & T where she was employed as an office clerk. She loved flowers and gardening was her favorite hobby.

She is survived by her friends of the Franklin County Senior Citizens in Winchester.

Visitation for Ms. Miller is scheduled for 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 18, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services with the Service to follow at 1:00. Bro. J.D. Spencer will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Franklin County Senior Citizens, 74 Clover Drive, Winchester, TN 37398.

11/15/14 —- Clarence Howard McCormick

Clarence Howard McCormick, age 76  of Hillsboro, passed away on Tuesday, 
November 11, 2014 at Centennial Hospital  in Nashville. 

He is a native of Coffee County and the son of the late Hubert 
McCormick and Essie Baker McCormick. 

Mr. McCormick was a member of Living Water  Pentecostal Church in
 Manchester and was retired from the City of Manchester where he worked 
in the department of water works. 

He was married to Shirley  McCormick in 1955 and they shared 28 years
 together before her passing 1983.

Mr. McCormick is survived by his children: Michael (Margie) McCormick, Randy (Diane) 
 McCormick  and Denise (Jeff) Holycross all of Hillsboro. 
He is survived by  fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. 

Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Janice 
Robinson in 2005 as well as three sisters: Maymie Lee Gaultney, Juanita Dickerson and 
Edna  McCormick.  He was also preceded in death by one brother,Herman McCormick 
and one daughter Janice Robinson, who passed away in 2005.

Visitation with the  family was on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Living Water Pentecostal 
Church in Manchester. 

Funeral services were at the church at 11 a.m.Saturday, November  15, 2014 with Pastor 
Rick Clouse and Pastor Danny Anderson officiating. 

Burial followed in the Hillsboro United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to Gowen-Smith Chapel 
for funeral expenses.

11/16/14 —— George Washington Hudson Jr.

George Washington Hudson Jr, age 70, passed away at his residence November 13, 2014. 

He was a native of Murfreesboro, TN and has lived in Beechgrove for the past 
twenty five years.

George was former owner of Dixie Heating and Air and General’s Retreat Liquor Store.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Sr and Shirley Menees Hudson, 
former owners  of Hudson Flower Shop. 

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Hudson of Beechgrove, TN; son, George W. Hudson III of 
Beechgrove;  daughters, Christy Hudson, Leia Hudson and Madysen Hudson,  
all of Beechgrove; and sister, Shirley (Wilburn) Ralston of Georgia.

A Chapel service will be Sunday, November 16, 2014, 2:00 PM at Jennings and Ayers
with Eddie Coy officiating. 

Burial will follow in Beechgrove Cemetery, Beechgrove, TN  with friends and family
serving as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, November 15, 2014, 3:00-7:00 PM at

11/16/14 —— Bertha E. Ratleph

 Bertha E. Ratleph, age 70, passed away on November 12, 2014 at her home in Manchester, Tennessee surrounded by her loving family.

She retired from PCA Apparel Industries, Inc. in Manchester and later worked with Marcole Industries, Inc.

She was born in Cartwright. Illinois to her parents, the late Russell William Taapken, Sr. and Edith Jane Lowe Taapken.

Bertha was also preceded in death by her brothers, Russell W. Taapken, Jr., Jessie Clifford Taapkrn and Norvell Eugene Taapken; and sister, Betty Elaine White.

Bertha will be fondly remembered as loving mother and sister who loved puzzles, playing cards and word searches.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Watson, Jack Teal, Jr., Wanda Dykes, Connie Taylor and Vernon Teal all of Manchester, TN; sister, Bessie Jane Hunter;

flower 13brothers, William Lee Taapken and W.J. Taapken; her little dog and buddy, “A.J.”; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Roger Smith, age 57, of Tullahoma passed away Wednesday at his residence in Tullahoma.

He was born in Tullahoma, TN to the late Robert Bryant and Sadie Baxter.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by three brothers, J.R. Baker, Johnny Baker and Terry Bryant.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Pennington Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 11:00AM till 2:00 PM Friday at Tullahoma Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen Smith, daughter, Betty Lou Smith, son, Gene Smith, step children, Brian and Alicia Archey,

11/15/14 — James “Jimmy” Lowe

Mr. James “Jimmy” Lowe, age 67, of Manchester, TN., passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Chattanooga, TN., and was the son of the late James Leonard and Pauline Denby Lowe.

He was a retired Construction Superintendent at Hardaway Construction in Nashville, TN. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Lowe was a die hard Tennessee Football fan and he loved Nascar. He was a great man and will be missed. He attended Cedar Lane Church of Christ in Tullahoma, TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Freddy Lowe, and a sister Mary Lee Smith.

He is survived by one son James Lowe, Jr., four daughters Kimberly (Kyle) Witwer, Barbara Michelle Lowe, Tammy (Aaron) Williams, April (Chase) Melson, grandchildren Rylan and Kynzee Melson, Brandon Hensley, Jaavan and Maleigha Williams, Kaley Witwer, James Leonard Lowe, III, great grandchildren Skylah and Devon Lowe, brothers Paul (Margie) Lowe, Bobby (Gloria) Lowe, Sr., Charles McEwen, Samuel Lowe, and sister Betty Lowe Martin.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening, November 14, 2014, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

11/16/14 — Bobby Ray Smith Sr.

Bobby Ray Smith Sr. of Normandy, passed this life on Wednesday, November 12th, 2014 at his residence at the age of 81.

Mr. Smith was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to the late James Homer and Vera Himes Smith.

During his life he was a star athlete in many sports, at the age of 16, he was offered a professional pitching contract with the New York Giants Baseball Team. In 1951, Mr. Smith received a scholarship to play football at the University of Tennessee under Coach Neyland, he instead chose to attend MTC (now MTSU) where he played football on a baseball scholarship. He went on to become a planner and scheduler with AEDC and ran the Holiday Marina as well as the Sportsman’s Store and Bait Shop. Mr. Smith was an avid fisherman and was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Tullahoma.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his Homecoming Queen and wife of 58 years, Florida Mae Smith; and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Karen Ingle and her husband Donnie of Winchester, and Laura Wells and her husband Ronnie of Tullahoma; two sons, Bobby Ray Smith Jr. and his wife Renee of Tullahoma, and William Daryl Smith of Tullahoma; 11 grandchildren, Kris Ingle, Jansen Ingle, Alex Ingle, Lauron Wells, Jamie Garner, Megan Smith, Justin Smith, Garrett Smith, Jodi Smith, Cole Smith, and Samantha Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Hunter Ingle, Riley Ingle, Riley Shelton, Ian Smith, Nivea Smith, Elijah Smith, Ellison Smith, and Aubree Jasper.

Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 16th, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Dixon and Dr. Wayne Wester officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma.

11/12/14 —– Anita S. Longmire

Anita S. Longmire, age 77 of Tullahoma passed away Wednesday, November 12 at Harton Regional Medical Center.

No services are scheduled.

A native of Johnson City, she was the daughter of the late John Carl Longmire and the late Ada Lucille Bell Longmire Evans.

Ms. Longmire worked for many years as a sales clerk in the retail industry.

She was interested in crafts and enjoyed reading.

Ms. Longmire is survived by one brother, William H. Longmire and his wife, Gerri of Tullahoma.
