5/24/16 — Buford Eugene Newsome

flower 4Mr. Buford Eugene Newsome age 72 of Monteagle passed from this life Friday evening, May 20, 2016, at his home. He was a son of the late Charles A. and Gladys Brown Newsome and was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Cook, Nell Cornelison and Margaret “Beck” Newsome; nephew, Charles Cook.

Mr. Newsome was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in VietNam, later he became an educator and taught in Grundy County Schools. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Monteagle.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Irene O’Dea Clardy Newsome; children, Carol Ann (Dale) Jones, Reuben Cordell Newsome and Aubery Claborn Newsome; grandchildren, Blake, Brooke and Blair Foshee, Shelbi, Colby, Kaylee, Abby and Anthony, Mallory and Max; brother, Cordell (Debbie) Newsome; sister, Ruth (Tony) Bailey; great-grandchildren, Kade,Kaleb, Kamden and Kreek; nephews and nieces, Walter Cook, Lisa Taylor, Tonya Kimbro, Heather Brewer and Nat Newsome. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM, in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends Monday evening 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. 5/23/16 — Ted Sanders

sandersTed Sanders of Tullahoma passed this life on Friday, May 20th, 2016 at
Tennova Healthcare Harton at the age of 81. Mr. Sanders was born in
Franklin County to the late Frank and Lillian Blackburn Sanders. During
his life he worked as a machinist supervisor at A.R.O. and was a member
of the Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church in Tullahoma. Mr. Sanders was
also a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the International Association of
Machinist and Aerospace Workers. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by one brother, Frank “Sonny” Sanders; and one sister,
Thelma Jean McClure. Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Eloise Sanders
of Tullahoma; two sons, Tim Sanders and his wife Donna of Winchester and
Terry Sanders and his wife Kim of Tullahoma; one sister, Patsy Solomon
and her husband Jim of Tullahoma; grandchildren, Alex Sanders and his
wife Hannah, Tiffany Sanders and Dylan Sanders; and one great-grandson,
Jaxon Sanders. Visitation for Mr. Sanders will be held on Monday, May
23rd, 2016 from 11:00am-2:00pm with the funeral to immediately follow at
2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Rod Schrader and
Jimmy Kesey officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial
Gardens. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that

5/22/16 — Nell Gentry Winnett

flower vase 2Memorial services for Mrs. Nell Gentry Winnett, age 93, of Manchester,
TN, will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Hillsboro
Church of Christ with Tom Harrison and Dennis Winnett officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on
Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Manchester Funeral Home. A private burial will
be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Winnett passed away Thursday
morning at her residence.

Nell was born in Hillsboro, TN, the daughter of the late Alex T. Gentry
and Sula Elliott Gentry. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Coffee
County Board of Education and a 74-year member of Hillsboro Church of
Christ.

In addition to her parents, Nell was also preceded in death by her
husband, Kenneth Winnett, who passed away in 2000; and her daughter and
son-in-law, Norma Kay and Bobby Starnes.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Winnett of Manchester; four
grandchildren, Laura (Tommy) Anderson, Kenell (Sam) Green, Joleana (John)
Duke, and Kim (Dwayne) Mullins; ten great grandchildren, Jared and Derek
Anderson, Lucas (Nicole) Green, Ashley and Cassie Green, Austin, Joel,
and Jake Duke, and Courtney and Bobby Mullins; and numerous nieces and
nephews, including a special niece, Beverly (Bobbye) Bonner of Glasgow,
KY.

wallerSharon Katherine Waller of Tullahoma passed away on Monday, May 16th,
2016 at her home at the age of 68. Mrs. Waller was born in Livingston,
Tennessee to the late Harry and Agnes Waggoner Danner. During her life
she worked as an Account Executive for 39 years with E.B. Thoma and Son
Agency and was a member of numerous organizations including the Mama
Cats, Women’s Club, the Kiwanis Club, PTA, the Highland Rim Association
of Insurance Women and Bunko Babes. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Waller was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Brown and Jess
Flemming. She is survived by her husband, Leon Waller; three sisters,
Betty McFarlane, Nell West and Marcia Trulove; two sons, Brent and Todd
Waller; one daughter, Shannon Waller; and five grandchildren, Ayden, Mia,
and Nolan Panzella, and Breslyn and Lucy Waller. A memorial service will
be held on Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 at Kilgore Funeral Home at 2:00pm with
Rev. Gary West and Bro. Elmer Bell officiating. For those who wish, in

5/21/16 — Donald Joe Womack

flower 9Funeral services for Mr. Donald Joe Womack, age 66, of Manchester, will
be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Manchester Funeral
Home with Bro. Jon Hollifield and Bro. Steve Adams officiating. Burial
will follow in the Manchester City Cemetery. Visitation with the family
will be from 12:00 PM until time of service on Saturday at the funeral
home. Mr. Womack passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at St. Thomas
Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.

Donald was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late Joe Edward
Womack and Jackie Stafford Womack, who survives. He was a self-employed
cabinet maker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Donald enjoyed
driving through car lots, riding country roads, gardening, collectible
die-cast cars, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his mother, Donald is also survived by his loving wife of
47 years, Linda Faye Womack of Manchester; one son, Jody (Autumn) Womack
of Manchester; one daughter, Angela (Scott) Gann of Manchester; eight
grandchildren, Abby, Andrew, Anna, and Adam Gann, Nathan, Jonathan,
Madison, and Gabe Womack; and one great grandchild, Mason Gann.

flower 21Mary Magdalene Thomas Johnson age 93 of Monteagle passed away Tuesday morning at her home. She was a daughter of the late Jim Earl Thomas and Clara Irene Layne Thomas and was preceded in death by her husband, Embrey Johnson; brothers, James and Billy Thomas; sisters, infant sister, Hazel Thomas, Thelma Cox, Lela Mae Purdy, Robena MaGouirk, Jean Ann Rakauskas and Earl Dean Metcalfe.

Survivors include her children, Leona Hamby, Glenda Faye Scissom of Monteagle and Danny Lee (Joy) Johnson of Tracy City; brother, Frank “Pete” (Carolyn) Thomas of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Cindy, Sherrie, Debbie, special caregiver and granddaughter, Marinell, Julie, Dava, Timmy, Shelly, Chris, Ryan and Dana; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and sister-in-law, Linda Thomas and special friend, Carrie Sue Sanders.

William David Jackson, PhD.

May 20, 1927 – May 13, 2016

Passed away peacefully of natural causes at home in Tullahoma, Tn on May
13, 2016. Dr. Jackson first moved to Tullahoma in the early 1970’s as a
Professor of Electric Engineering and Program Director in the Energy
Conversion Division at UTSI. As a principle participant in the development
of Magnetohydrodynamic Power Generation he was recognized for the promotion
of international cooperation in energy research and development. He was a
founding member of the International Liaison Group on Magnetohydrodynamics.

Dr. Jackson came to the United States in 1955 as a Fulbright Scholar at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, after beginning his
teaching career at the University of Manchester, UK. He joined the faculty
at MIT in 1957 and went on to teach at the Technical University of Berlin,
University of Illinois, Chicago, George Washington University in DC, and
recently Adjunct Professor at Motlow State College and Tennessee State
University.

He was Director of Education and Principal Research Scientist at
Avco-Everett in Everett, MA, Program Manager at the Electric Power Research
Institute in Palo Alto, CA and Office of Coal Research at the US Department
of Interior and Director of Technical Analysis at the Department of Energy
Office of Energy Research. He was founder and President of the HMJ
Corporation a small business specializing in advanced energy technology
research, development and system analysis.

Designated a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (UK), the
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers he remained active through his career. He was
involved with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
(Energy Systems Award), American Physical Society, American Association for
the Advancement of Science, American Society for Engineering Education,
Fulbright Association, American Association of University Professors,
American Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Sigma Xi. He was
a graduate of the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland.

A lifelong avid railroader, he was a member the Kennebunkport Trolley
Museum in Maine and the National Trolley Museum in DC. He was active in
the Highland Rim Scottish Society, the Hands on Science Center in
Tullahoma, and the British Embassy Players and Hexagon, Inc. in DC.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he was preceded in death by parents, Joseph
Jackson and Margaret Johnston Jackson. He is survived by children,
Margaret Eleanor Jackson of Boston, MA, David Foster Jackson (Ainsley) of
S. Deerfield, MA. Stepchildren, William Dunbar Dicks, Los Angles, Pauline
Dicks Grossman, Kensington, MD, Josephine Dicks Clark, Oak Ridge,
Tennessee, Agnes Dicks Duncan, Atlanta, Ga and Merrill Dicks, Taos, NM.
Grandchildren, Asa, Cal and William Jackson of S. Deerfield, MA; Emily,
Chloe and Sienna Jackson-Unger of Boston, MA; John and Daniel Grossman,
Kensington, MD; Ashton and Duncan Clark of Oak Ridge, TN, Violet and Eugene
Dicks of Taos, NM and one great-grandson, William Jackson-Unger of Boston,
MA.

A memorial will be held in Washington, DC.

away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at his home in Manchester, TN.

Johnny was born and raised in Manchester, TN, the son of Sarah Helena
Lowe Brandon and the late John Henry Brandon.

Johnny called Manchester home but enjoyed many adventures and travel.
Most notorious for a smile that could light up a room, he kept friends
and family entertained and laughing with his singing and joke telling.

In addition to his father, Johnny was also preceded in death by his son,
Justin Thomas Foster.

Johnny is survived by: his wife, Rebekah Brandon; his mother, Helena Lowe
Brandon; his brother, Danny Brandon (Rita); three sons, Jesse Foster,
Michael Moorehead, and Mark Uselton; and three grandchildren, Skylar,
Gage, and Catorie; nieces/nephews, Ashley, Chase, and Reese, and numerous
aunts, uncles, and cousins.

flower 22James Edward “Red” Pass, age 89 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away into rest on May 12, 2016 at the Alive Hospice in Nashville. Mr. Pass retired from AT&T Bell South after 37 years of service; was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; a United States Army Veteran serving during WWII and the Korean War; and was past commander of the American Legion Post 78 in Manchester. He served as a baseball coach for Babe Ruth and Little League. He will be fondly remembered as one who dearly loved his family, enjoyed the the joy of laughter, the sharing of a good story, the outdoors, gardening, beekeeping, and camping. Mr. Pass volunteered his time, skill and services to the blind by repairing their machines especially designed to provide blind participants the opportunity to play baseball by hitting and catching the ball. Mr. Pass was preceded in death by his parents, the late Edgar Green Pass and Nancy Lasater Pass. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Evelyn Agee Pass of Manchester, TN; sons, Jimmy Pass ( Carol) of Manchester, TN and Eddie Pass (Cheryl) of Beech Grove, TN; and daughter, Darlene Pass Goodier (Paul) of Orange Park, Florida; sister, Roselee Moore of Tullahoma, TN; two grandchildren, Jonathan Pass and Amy Beth Smith of Manchester, TN; and a host of friends.
