10/18/16 — Lewis Edward Thorpe

flower 16Mr. Lewis Edward Thorpe passed from this life at his residence in Normandy, Tennessee on October 14, 2016.
He was born on July 6, 1949 in Winchester, Tennessee to the late Lewis and Katherine Etta Finchum Thorpe. He was also preceded in death by sisters Shelia Dean and Mary Leahman.
Mr. Thorpe was a member of the Grundy Street Church of Christ and honorably served in the United States Marines, then pursued a career as an Electrical Engineer.
He loved to fly airplanes and enjoyed boating, along with mechanical chores around the home.
His family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. Bro. Phillip Davis will officiate Mr. Thrope’s funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in the funeral home’s chapel. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Thorpe is survived by his wife Linda C. Thorpe of Normandy, along with his daughters Laraine Elizabeth Thorpe of Normandy, Tennessee and Lore’L Elaine Thorpe-Ayriss and her husband Steve of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His son Landen Thorpe and his wife Summer of Murfreesboro, Tennessee also survive, along with grandchildren Austin and Zachary Ayriss.
Brothers surviving are Jimmy Thorpe and his wife Brenda of Canal Fulton, Ohio and Michael Thorpe and his wife Sandy of Akron, Ohio.

Michelle D. Sutherland

sutherlandMichelle D. Sutherland, 42, a resident of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away at Harton Regional Medical Center on Oct. 11, 2016.
She was born on March 15, 1974 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania to the late William and Marilyn Hagerty Sullivan.
She is survived by her son Zakery Petrilla of Tullahoma. She is also survived by her sister Denise Wyckoff of Springdale, Pennsylvania and brother Chris Sutherland.
No services are scheduled at this time.

Melinda M. Karell was a native of Fallsburg, New York and born to the
late Charles T. and Elizabeth Dunn Moore. Melinda was also preceded in
death my her husband Walter Karell and son Walter Charles Karell. She is
survived by four children; Melinda and (Gary) Cormier of Jeffersonville,
New York, Cheryl Karell of Manchester, Tennessee, Kandi Karell of
Manchester, Tennessee, and Clifford and (Claudia) Karell of Discovery
Bay, California, two grandsons; Victor and Alexander Karell of Discovery
Bay, California. Melinda was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in
Manchester, Tennessee and the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Murfreesboro,
Tennessee.

10/14/16 — Sherrill “Dianne” Reed

flower 23Sherrill “Dianne” Reed was a native of Manchester, Tennessee and the
daughter of Aleta Simmons and the late Walter Simmons. She was preceded
in death by a sister Melanie Simmons. Dianne is survived by her husband
Ross, of Hillsboro, Tennessee, two sons; Stephen Reed of Manchester,
Tennessee, and Jason (Tracey) Reed of Manchester, Tennessee, daughter
Cindy (Jason) Ford of Bell Buckle, Tennessee; four grandsons; Trevor
Ford, J.R. Reed, Luke Reed, and Hunter Ford; three granddaughters;
Carolee Jordan, Kylee, and Krista Ford,two sisters; Sharon Greenfield and
Cathey Pressley, an aunt; Janice Allen, an uncle; Tom (Tina) Carter,
nieces; Amber Greenfield, Amanda Pressley, nephews; Joshua Greenfield and
Dustin Pressley and a host of family and friends.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden, spending time at Hillcrest
Baptist Church where she was a member and with family and friends.

10/15/16 — Julia Elizabeth Pirtle

flower 24Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Pirtle age 85 of Monteagle passed from this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Sheltering Arms in Palmer. She was a daughter of the late Dave and Glennie Schaerer Thomas and was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin T. Pirtle; brothers, David Edward Thomas, G.C. Thomas; sister, Ethel Moore.

Mrs. Pirtle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked for many years as a secretary and book keeper for several businesses in Monteagle as well as with her husband in their own business, Pirtle Plumbing and Electric.

She was a longtime member of Monteagle Church of Christ and was actively involved in many civic and political causes that she believed in.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Howell King and Natalie and Scotty Parson; grandchildren, Vonna (Coy) Layne, Hillary (Chad) Dees, Neal Parson and Robert Parson; 9 great-grandchildren, Gunnar Morrison, Joelton Dees, Taylor Dees, Molly Layne, Summer Dees, Emily Dees, Easton Parson, Marshall Layne and Brooklynn Parson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Paul Tittle and Brother Nathan Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Monteagle Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M.

10/13/16—Robert Samuel Nelson Sr

Nelson Sr., Robert Samuel “Sam”, of Tullahoma, passed this life on
Monday, October 10th, 2016 at his residence at the age of 85. Mr. Nelson
was born in Tullahoma to the late James Monroe Nelson and Martha Choate
Nelson. He served his country in the United States Army during Korea,
earning a purple heart, 2 bronze stars, and several other accolades.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Mr. Nelson went on to work
for HCA and retired as a Facilities Engineer with Huntsville Hospital. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia
M. Nelson; one daughter, Dolores Ann Bentley; two brothers, Archie Lee
Nelson and James Monroe Nelson; and three sisters, Ester Mae Wilhoit,
Rosa E. Norris, and Mary Francis Thomas. He is survived by five children,
Bobby S. Nelson Jr. and his wife Cindy, Linda Nelson Anderson and her
husband Michael, Mark W. Nelson Sr. and his wife Debra, Jonpaul Nelson
and his wife Amanda, and Samantha Nelson Rippy and her husband Mitchell;
one brother, Bill Nelson; and one sister, Adell Stella Hodges;
grandchildren, Robert, Daniel, Mark, Pam, Chris, Dylan, Jordyn, Donovan,
Calan, Abbey, Audrey, Garrett, Ryan, Jerry, and Valerie; and 13
great-grandchildren. A private service and burial will take place at a
later date.

10/13/16 — Vivian “Gail” Powell

flower aVivian “Gail” Powell, formerly of Tullahoma, TN passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at her son’s home in Lenoir City, Tennessee. Her funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Thursday at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Powell was the daughter of the late Isaac Wilson and Hazel Lancaster Swann. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, she was a member of the Power Squadron, Red Hats Society and a volunteer for Salvation Army. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church of Tullahoma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William S. Powell, Jr. and twin sisters, Jane and Jean Swann.,
She is survived by son, Virgil Powell and wife Denise of Lenoir City, Tennessee; two brothers, Keith Swann of California and Kenneth Swann and wife Linda of Normand, Tennessee; one sister, Myra Elkins and husband Wayne of Nashville, Tennessee and one grand- daughter, Katherine Gail Powell

thomasAmanda Thomas, 36, a resident of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away on October 6, 2016 in Shelbyville, Tennessee.
Amanda was born on March 30, 1980 in Muncie, Indiana to Donnie Reese and Mary Craft. She was of the Pentecostal faith and loved decorating and taking pictures.
Visitation with family members will be held on Monday evening, October 10, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in the funeral home’s chapel with burial to follow in the Gum Creek Cemetery in Franklin County, Tennessee.
Surviving Amanda are her children Aliyah Thomas and her friend Mason Wilcox of Tullahoma and Austin Thomas of Pulaski, Tennessee. Other survivors in addition to her parents are three sisters, Angie Copeland of Atlanta, Georgia, Felicia Kotowski of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Shannon McFalls of Chattanooga, Tennessee. flower vase 2Kathy Sue Love Anderson, age 59, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at
St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was a native of Putnam Co.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Eugene Anderson; Children,
Kayla Anderson of Rockvale and Jesse Anderson of Manchester;
Grandchildren, Judith Kathleen “Renee” Poe, Joshua Ray Eslick, Thomas
Martin Poe, Lucius Sizemore, and Nigel King; Siblings, Rhonda Jackson of
Little Rock, AR, Jim (Christy) Love of Woodbury, Bill (Betty) Love of
Woodbury, and Joy (Johnny) Resko of Bradyville; Sister-in-law, Cindy Love
of Readyville; and Special Friends, Debbie Davenport, Laura Kemp, and
Cindy Alford. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Goff Love & Wilma
Kathleen Davis Love; son, Gene Alan Anderson; and brother, Mike Love.

Ms. Anderson was a member of the Living Church of God and was a Special
Education Teacher’s Aide and a substitute teacher. She loved to paint
and create beautiful flower arrangements. She was recently able to
attend her 30th high school reunion.

Memorial services will be 2 PM Monday, October 10, 2016 in the Chapel of
Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Lovelady officiating. Visitation
with the family will be from 4 PM to 8 PM Sunday, October 9, 2016 at
Woodbury Funeral Home.

10/9/16 — Karen Shoemake Morgan

shumakeKAREN SHUEMAKE MORGAN, age 57, of Tullahoma, Tenn., departed this life on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare in Tullahoma, Tenn. following a brief illness.

Ms. Morgan was born on November 27, 1958, in Coffee County, Tenn. to Charles Shumake and the late Vivian Roulette Shumake. Ms. Morgan was disabled. She was a member of the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, Ms. Morgan was preceded in death by her sister, Sherry Shelley and brothers; Barry and Mark Shumake. She is survived by her son, Johnny Cates of Tullahoma, Tenn., Father and Step-mother, Charles and Mary Shumake also, of Tullahoma, Tenn., sisters; Barbara Ashley and husband, David of Estill Springs, Tenn., Beverly Noblitt of Tullahoma and Several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services for Ms. Morgan are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday,
October 9, 2016, in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until service time at 3:00 with Bro. Cecil Mathis, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
