Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Pirtle age 85 of Monteagle passed from this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Sheltering Arms in Palmer. She was a daughter of the late Dave and Glennie Schaerer Thomas and was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin T. Pirtle; brothers, David Edward Thomas, G.C. Thomas; sister, Ethel Moore.
Mrs. Pirtle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked for many years as a secretary and book keeper for several businesses in Monteagle as well as with her husband in their own business, Pirtle Plumbing and Electric.
She was a longtime member of Monteagle Church of Christ and was actively involved in many civic and political causes that she believed in.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Howell King and Natalie and Scotty Parson; grandchildren, Vonna (Coy) Layne, Hillary (Chad) Dees, Neal Parson and Robert Parson; 9 great-grandchildren, Gunnar Morrison, Joelton Dees, Taylor Dees, Molly Layne, Summer Dees, Emily Dees, Easton Parson, Marshall Layne and Brooklynn Parson.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Paul Tittle and Brother Nathan Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Monteagle Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M.
