Matheny Wants Huffman Out As Education Commissioner
In a four-page letter, the bi-partisan group outlines why they want Huffman to step down. It includes accusations of misguided judgment, dereliction of duty and failing to uphold state law following problems with the release of TCAP scores.
In a statement, Gov. Haslam called the letter a political stunt and said “there is a more productive way to discuss something so significant than through a letter by a small group of legislators more interested in trying to get headlines than substance.”
Manchester Firemen Go Through Intense Training
Last week the Manchester Fire Department went through a 2 Part Survival Course that taught them how to escape a burning building once their traditional exit routes have been compromised. This course was taught by the Tennessee Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy who said it was their first time teaching this course to an entire department including the administration. Part 1 of this course taught fireman how to breach walls and how to climb through enclosed spaces, wiring, and more while having no visibility.
Part 2 of this course trained fireman on techniques to help them escape a 2 story building through a window without a traditional ladder method. When asked what they thought about this training course, firemen responded with answer that covered the following: this course taught them that mentally attacking a situation can make all of the difference, that having a real life practice scenario can better train them for a real life situation, and how having a background in nontraditional escape options can help them safely get home to their families. Watch these firefighters in action as they breach walls and climb out of windows on Thunder TV’s all new News Video online at www.WMSRRadio.com.

Tullahoma Man and Woman Headed To Prison After Pleading Guilty To Sex Charges
A Tullahoma woman and man are facing 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to exchanging sex with her teenage daughter for crack cocaine following their pleas in Coffee County Circuit Court Wednesday.
Kimberly Michelle Breeden and Alvin Avery Overman entered the plea before Coffee County Circuit Court Judge Craig Johnson to seven counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and seven counts of incest each involving Breeden’s daughter in 2011 and 2012. The girl was 13 and 14 years old at the time of the alleged incidents. The two along with two others were arrested after they were indicted in January 2013.

Prosecutors also allege that Breeden took part in the sexual activity. Maupins has already been sentenced to serve 45 days of a two-year sentence on a charge of statutory rape. Hickerson is still facing court proceedings. Overman also had sex with the girl several times.

Coffee County Circuit Judge Craig Johnson accepted the plea agreement for Breeden and Overman.
Breeden was represented by attorney Josh Powell while Overman was represented by Ed North. Assistant District Attorney Jason Ponder prosecuted the case.

Fire Training Going On In Manchester
Wednesday the Manchester Firemen were involved in survival course training exercises. After going through a few hours of class room work firemen were off to the survival course. Manchester firemen made their way to the former pool hall on the Hillsboro Blvd next to the First National Bank branch. Many people driving by and those living in the area may have thought the building was on fire but it was only man made smoke used for training exercises.
Manchester Fire Chief George DeShields told WMSR News that firemen Thursday through Saturday will be at house on Waite St doing bail outs and self-rescue from the second floor. Don’t be alarmed this is only training.
