At the Law Enforcement Lifesaver’s conference in Murfreesboro on Wednesday, the Tullahoma Police Department was presented with the Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) award for the Child Passenger Safety (CPS) fitting station for Middle Tennessee. In calendar year 2013, approximately 2200 car seats were issued statewide, for an average of about 24 per fitting station. In 2013, TPD conducted 89 examinations that resulted in them issuing of 79 car seats. The CPS program is a grant funded program that provides training for officers, and certifies them as technicians, in the proper installation, fitting, and sizing of children for the proper car seat. The technicians will assist parents and relatives with the proper installation of car seats, and provide guidance as too the proper restraint for a child. In order to receive a replacement car seat, Tullahoma residency is required. The technicians are generally available Monday – Friday, 6 am – 5 pm. In order to ensure a technician is available, please call (931) 455-0530 in advance. Sergeant Phil Henderson is the supervisor of the program and is assisted by 5 technicians: officers Rocky Ruehling, Tim Brandon, Matt Watson, Sam Campbell, and Mickey Blanton. Coffee County came up just short on Friday night in high school football. The Raiders hosted 11th ranked Columbia in District 8-AAA play. In the very high scoring game the Lions took the lead at 50-42 with 27 seconds left.
Senior Jimmy Hollandsworth, who started at quarterback the first two games of the season switched to TE against Columbia. Hollandsworth was called upon to return to QB for the final drive of the game. After throwing an incompletion on his first throw the senior found Boone Riddle over the middle on the next play. Riddle made a great catch for 43 yards to set the Raiders up at the Columbia 27 with 10 seconds left. On the next play Hollandsworth used his strong arm to find Riddle again at the Lions 3-yard line with four seconds left in the game. On the final play Hollandsworth scrambled to find an open receiver but he could not and he took off running and dove for the goal-line coming up just short as the incredibly exciting game ended.
Freshman QB Alontae Taylor rolled up 227 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries and was 6-of-9 passing for 100 yards and another score.
Cody Howes scored 4 times on the night three times on the ground and he caught a TD pass.

Kicker Cole Hawkins booted 6 extra points on the night.

What started as a routine traffic stop in Manchester ended up in a chase that ended in Bedford County.
According to Manchester Assistant Chief Adam Floied, around 11 a.m. Thursday morning Manchester Officer Ernie Colvin spotted a Chevrolet pickup truck around the Wiley Street and Spring Street area being operated by an individual whom the officer knew did not have a license. The officer also noticed that the driver had a Sea Doo on the truck that was not tied down in a safe manner. “When Officer Colvin attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver took off,” according to the assistant chief. The driver then drove around several streets in Manchester and eventually ending up in the Normandy area. According to Floied, as the driver continued to run from the officers, the Sea Doo continued to move around. “It eventually fell off near Normandy Dam,” Floied said.
Capt. Frank Watkins and Sgt. Danny Ferrell with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department were able to get the driver to stop. When they did a sheriff’s department vehicle suffered some minor damage. Also a door on the pickup came open and then shut, pinning the driver in.
Floied identified the driver as Ricky “Bo Duke” George of Manchester. He was treated at Harton Regional Medical Center for some cuts.
George is facing charges including driving on revoked license, reckless endangerment, evading arrest and aggravated assault, as well as other possible charges pending.
A passenger in the truck was not injured and was not charged.

Two employees of the Tennessee Department of Transportation were flown to a Nashville hospital Thursday following a serious crash on Interstate 24. The accident happened on I-24 West near mile marker 99 just northwest of Manchester around 1:00 p.m. Traffic was already backing up in the area due to a previous crash and crews were also mowing the lawn further down the interstate. Two TDOT workers, 54-year-old Tony Hayworth and 50-year-old David Shelton, noticed the backup and decided to get into their utility truck and turn on a flashing sign that read “move over” in order to alert oncoming traffic. Officials said William Gardner, 63, was driving a tractor trailer when he reportedly failed to merge left. He slammed into the back of the TDOT truck, knocking it across the emergency lane and causing it to strike a rock wall. The tractor trailer then jack-knifed and also hit the wall. The two TDOT workers were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Hayworth is in stable condition and Shelton is critical. Gardner was injured, but was not transported to a hospital. Charges against the tractor trailer driver are pending. (WKRN and THP)
