What started as a routine traffic stop in Manchester ended up in a chase that ended in Bedford County.
According to Manchester Assistant Chief Adam Floied, around 11 a.m. Thursday morning Manchester Officer Ernie Colvin spotted a Chevrolet pickup truck around the Wiley Street and Spring Street area being operated by an individual whom the officer knew did not have a license. The officer also noticed that the driver had a Sea Doo on the truck that was not tied down in a safe manner. “When Officer Colvin attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver took off,” according to the assistant chief. The driver then drove around several streets in Manchester and eventually ending up in the Normandy area. According to Floied, as the driver continued to run from the officers, the Sea Doo continued to move around. “It eventually fell off near Normandy Dam,” Floied said.
Capt. Frank Watkins and Sgt. Danny Ferrell with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department were able to get the driver to stop. When they did a sheriff’s department vehicle suffered some minor damage. Also a door on the pickup came open and then shut, pinning the driver in.
Floied identified the driver as Ricky “Bo Duke” George of Manchester. He was treated at Harton Regional Medical Center for some cuts.
George is facing charges including driving on revoked license, reckless endangerment, evading arrest and aggravated assault, as well as other possible charges pending.
A passenger in the truck was not injured and was not charged.
