Westwood to host DRVC baseball tournament starting Thursday
Postseason play has arrived for the Westwood Rocket baseball team – and games will be at a familiar site.
The Rockets will host the DRVC postseason tournament at Fred Deadman Park in Manchester.
Westwood will open the tournament at 5:30 p.m. Thursday by playing Huntland. the Rockets split with Huntland in the regular season back on March 21 and 22. Tournament games after that will be played on Saturday, April 30, and May 2,3 and 5 at Fred Deadman Park.
The Rockets finished the regular season 10-5, closing with 5 straight wins.
Coffee Middle golf plays through rain to beat Franklin County
Rain cancelled and postponed most all sports on Monday – but not Coffee Middle Golf. The Raiders went to Bear Trace and left with a 10 flags to 2 win over Franklin County.
The CMS team of Noah Costello and James Bradley earned 1.5 flags. Meanwhile, Tallan Crosslin and Skylar Releford picked up 2.5 flags. The teams of Cade Williams and Lucas Turner and Brayden Kesling and Luke Lowe each notched 3 flags for a dominating afternoon for CMS.

Rain washes out CHS baseball, softball Monday
Rain forced rescheduling for the CHS baseball and softball teams on Monday.
The Lady Raiders, who were scheduled to host Franklin County postponed that game to Monday, May 2.
Meanwhile, the Raider baseball team was scheduled to begin its final district series of the season against Shelbyville. Monday’s game was pushed to Wednesday – so the Raiders will travel to Shelbyville Tuesday and then host the Eagles on Wednesday – first pitch at 6 p.m. both nights.
Westwood announces change to girls basketball tryouts
Westwood Middle School Lady Rocket head basketball coach Shala Ferrell has announced a slight adjustment to tryouts dates for next year’s team.
Tryouts will be held from 3:15-4:45 p.m. on May 11 and 13 at Westwood’s Joel Vinson Gymnasium. Tryouts are for upcoming 6th through 8th graders. There will be no tryouts on May 12 due to a conflict.
The Lady Rockets are coming off an incredibly successful season that saw them go unbeaten in conference play on their way to a conference championship. WMS lost just one regular season game.

Jessie Williams Voorhies
Jessie Williams Voorhies, age 79, of Winchester, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, April 24 th , 2022 at his residence. He was born in Poland, Louisiana to the late Jessie H. and Ora Mary Voorhies. Jessie served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked part-time for a few years doing construction work. His most loved hobbies were playing golf and fishing. Jessie was a member of Little Hurricane Baptist Church and loved his Lord and all his church family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee and Milburn Voorhies; one sister, Barbara Charrier. Jessie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Voorhies of Winchester; two sisters, Henrietta Ovella (E.J.) and Lola Belt of Alexandria, Louisiana; and many loving nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27 th , 2022 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 28 th , 2022 ay 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darrell Cantrell and Bro Donald Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at Little Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Kent Elliott Gabrys
Kent Elliott Gabrys, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Saturday, April 23 rd , 2022 at his home at the age of 67. Kent was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Alfred and Barbara Norwash Gabrys. He served his country in the Unites States Navy and then went on to work as an Enterprise System Architect Manager for Becket & Lee LLP. Kent was also a Ham Radio enthusiast with his call sign being KD1IJ. Together, Kent and his wife Mary raised four Yorkshire Terriers and loved them dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three of his Yorkies, Riley, Cassie and Abby. Kent is survived and will be missed by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Mary Kula Gabrys and his beloved Yorkie, Sadie, who were both at his side at the time of his death. He is also survived by his two sisters, Maureen LaRoche and Dawn Patch along with her husband Jeff. A funeral service with family and friends will take place at a later date in Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, Kent’s family asks that donations be made to the Tullahoma Animal Shelter, 942 Maplewood Avenue, Tullahoma, TN 37388.

Luta Trey Hetzler
Luta Trey Hetzler passed this life on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at
Huntsville Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, April
28, 2022 at 11 AM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
Luta was the son of Jeremiah and Catherine Hetzler. In addition to his
parents, he is survived by brothers, Julian and Meir; grandmother, Jane
Gray Bryan; grandparents, Roger and Dianna Fortner and great grandfather,
Ronald Hudson. Luta was preceded in death by grandfather, Jack Bryan.
