Edward (Dale) Phillips
Edward (Dale) Phillips, age 78 of Tullahoma and Cleveland Tennessee, passed from this life unexpectedly at his home on June 12, 2022. Funeral Services are scheduled for June 17, 2022 at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home at 12 PM (noon). The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward Lee (Ted) and Annie (Irene) Phillips as well as his wife of 54 years, Linda Y. Phillips. Dale’s hope and faith was in the Lord, and he looked forward to reuniting with his wife, friends, and family who have gone before him. Dale was a lifelong pilot with over 11,000 hours of experience and countless “slicked” landings. While he held several jobs in his lifetime: working for his father at Ted Phillips Furniture Store, private flight instructor and manager of Dixie Flying Service, and Beechcraft Queen Air Pilot at Arnold Engineering Development Center, his longest tenure was with Worth, Inc. flying a Beechcraft King Air from 1983-2003. He also served as a manager of shipping and receiving for a few years while at Worth. He continued to fly the King Air privately until his full retirement in 2012. Dale was respected and trusted as an excellent pilot, but his best roles were friend, husband, father, and Poppy. He was tirelessly committed to caring for his family. Dale is survived by his adoring daughter, Sarah Phillips Burris, son-in-law, Colby Burris, granddaughter, Lillie Irene Burris, and pampered cat. He spent his retirement caring for his wife and making many special memories with his family. He loved cooking, traveling, and watching wildlife. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in his younger years as well as motorcycle riding. Dale was a loyal friend with a giving heart and will be missed by many. The family is honored to have the following friends of Dale serve as pallbearers: Charles Parish, John Parish Jr., John Parish III, Robert Parish, Will Parish, and Mike York. As an option in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude in memory of Dale. Online condolences may be made at www.davesculbertsonfuneralhome.com.

Manchester Police remind citizens what roads to avoid during Bonnaroo
Bonnaroo 2022 officially begins Thursday, June 16, 2022. After not hosting the festival since 2019 (COVID / Flooding), locals seem to be out of practice regarding traffic patterns and the many newcomers who have moved to Manchester have not experienced the festival.
Traffic is generally heaviest on Wednesday and early Thursday before the festival begins.
Manchester Police Department released the following information reminding motorists what areas to avoid:
**Powers Road will be closed to all traffic, except for those that have an ID showing their address in that area. If you live on Powers Road, you will need to access your residence from McKellar Drive. New Bushy Branch Road (from Powers Road to Shed Road) will remain closed throughout the weekend.
**Kimberly Lane will be closed. If you live on Kimberly Lane you will be required to show proof of residency. All other traffic on Kimberly Lane is strictly event traffic.
**Campground Road (past KOA Campground) is closed to thru traffic.
**Per usual, you can expect heavy, congested traffic in the areas near Walmart and on McMinnville Highway and Ragsdale Road. Generally, the immediate secondary roads to these areas are open, but heavy traffic is likely present.
Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will be responsible for all exit ramps on Interstate 24. The MPD is dedicated to minimizing the inconvenience for our residents. If you have additional questions, you can call 728-9555 and request to speak to an on duty supervisor. As always, plan accordingly and allow yourself a few extra minutes for travel. Thank you for your understanding.

Races of note
A few winners from the May 3 primary will square off against Independent candidates in August who were not on the May 3 ballot; while others will be Republican and Democratic winners from May 3 facing each other. Some winners from May 3 are unopposed and a lock for winning in August.
Republican candidate for Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny, who ran unopposed in the primary, will face off against Independent candidate Margaret Cunningham in August for the county’s top seat.
Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin, who defeated challenger Alethia Rawn in the May 3 primary will face two challengers. Independent candidates Brandon Tomberlin and Danny Ferrell will each be seeking the highest law enforcement spot in the county – you will see all three on the ballot with the option to select one.
Longtime County Clerk Teresa McFadden (I) will be challenged by Republican Melissa Anderson (R) in August.
Road Superintendent Benton Bartlett beat Republican challenger Scott Hansert in the May 3 primary and will now face Democratic primary winner Ronnie Watts, who ran unopposed.
There are a couple of Coffee County Commission seats that will see challenges in August. In District 2, Republican primary winners Joey Hobbs and Claude Morse will face Democratic primary winner Mike Stein. The top two vote-getters will serve as commissioners.
In District 5, Republican primary winners Missy Deford and Tim Morris will face off against Democratic primary winner Bonnie Gamble. The top two vote-getters will serve as commissioners.
And in District 7, Republican primary winner Tina Reed will face Democratic candidates Rosemary Crabtree and Jackie Duncan. The top two vote-getters will serve as commissioners.
Also coming up in August will be City of Manchester Mayor and Aldermen elections. City Mayor Marilyn Howard will be running unopposed.
Three Manchester alderman seats will expire in August. Aldermen Bill Nickels, Mark Messick and Roxanne Patton will all see their terms expire in August. Only Messick is seeking re-election.
Eight candidates have filed petitions to run for Manchester alderman – they include Messick, Julie Anderson, David Bradley, Helen Debellis, Joey Hobbs, Claude Morse, Donny Parsley and James Threet.
Also, alderman Chris Elam has resigned his spot with two years remaining on his term. Therefore, the aldermanic candidate receiving the fourth most votes will take Elam’s spot and serve the remainder of his term.

Braves keep rolling with 13th straight win
If losing their All-Star second baseman to injury the night before fazed the Braves, they sure didn’t show it in the hours leading up to their Tuesday game against the Nationals. Then they took the field knowing they’d be without Ozzie Albies for a significant stretch, really for the first time, and just kept on rolling.
Atlanta didn’t miss a beat in extending its MLB-best 13-game win streak, socking five more homers en route to a decisive 10-4 victory at Nationals Park. The Braves’ 13-game streak is the longest in the Majors this season, the club’s longest since the 2013 team reeled off 14 in a row and tied for the third longest in the franchise’s modern era (since 1900). The 2000 Braves won 15 straight to set the franchise’s modern era record.
“You feel like you’re on top of the world, when you keep winning every night,” said rookie center fielder Michael Harris II. “I feel like we’re doing everything in every aspect of the game.”
