Two People Arrested for Church Burglaries in Shelbyville

Colby Donaldson

The Shelbyville Police Department has made an arrest in the recent rash of church burglaries. The break came Tuesday after police responded to a burglary at Victory Celebration Revival Church. Responding officers noticed footprints and tracks from what appeared to be a small dolly or cart leading from the rear of the church. The tracks were followed to a residence on Woodbury Street. Responding investigators also captured images of the suspects from the church’s video surveillance system.

Tammie Donaldson

At the residence on Woodbury Street Investigators made contact with Colby and Tammie Donaldson who denied the investigators entrance into the home. After a search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence police discovered thousands of dollars’ worth of property unlawfully taken from Victory Celebration Revival Church. While within the residence investigators also observed items taken from additional church burglaries and a burglary of a residence in Shelbyville. A subsequent search warrant was obtained, and the stolen property was collected.
As a result of the investigation the Donaldson’s have been charged with burglary and theft of property for their involvement in the offenses at Victory Celebration Revival Church, First Church of the Nazarene, Sevier Street Baptist Church, and Scott United Methodist Church. The couple has also been charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property for their involvement in a residential burglary. Both are in the Bedford County jail on a $170,000 bond. The investigation continues as to their possible involvement in other offenses.

Westwood Soccer Clinches Conference Regular Season Title with Win over Riverside Christian

Ian Weldon of Westwood soccer

On a cold and windy day at Dyer-Bouldin Field, the Westwood soccer team welcomed Riverside Christian for a conference match.  The Rockets made the match even more miserable for their visitors from Fayetteville with 7 first half goals.  Westwood went on to win by a final score of 9 to 0.  The win assures Westwood the number 1 seed in the conference tournament next month.

The Rockets wasted no time in getting on the board as they got a goal in the 1st minute from John Martinez.  Ian Weldon added a goal in the 7th minute and the 10th minute to give Westwood the commanding lead.  Coach Jonathan Graf emptied his bench to begin the 2nd half as the Rockets improved to 6 and 0 on the year and 5 and 0 in conference play.

Connor Cravens, Martinez and Weldon each finished with 2 goals. Keiton Sherrill added a goal and an assist.  Caleb Cargile and Adam Gann added goals in the second half and Louie Frazier finished with 1 assist.    Bodey Todd had 3 saves in goal for Westwood.

Westwood will now be off until April 2nd when they will play host to Tullahoma in a non-conference match.  That match will kick off at 6 PM at Dyer-Bouldin Field.

CHS Soccer Falls to Shelbyville

Paco Barrera of CHS soccer

The Red Raider soccer team of Coffee County Central High School opened up district play on Tuesday night in Shelbyville.  The cold and wet conditions, coupled with a physical Shelbyville team would provide Coffee County their most challenging match of the early season.  After rallying to tie the match at 2 goals apiece at the half, the Red Raiders fell by a final score of 5 to 2.

Shelbyville got on the board with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes.  Leo Botello got Coffee County on the board in the 31st minute off an assist from Cameron Kistler.  Paco Barrera tied the game in the final 2 minutes of the half.

In the second half, the Eagles dominated the scoring as they notched goals in the 45th, 58th and 60th minutes to capture the district win.  Coffee County is now 2 and 1 on the year but 0 and 1 in district play.

The Raiders hits the road on Friday when they travel to Cleveland to take part in the Cleveland Classic.  Coffee County will take on East Hamilton at 7:30 PM(EDT) on Friday.  The Red Raiders will face Walker Valley at 10 AM on Saturday, followed by Howard at 4 PM.

Roadway Work Continues

The State Highway Resurfacing Project on Hwy 41 that began Sunday is continuing in Manchester. The traffic lights through the city have been placed into manual mode, which means the wait time will be a little longer.
The Rogers Group who is doing the work on the roadway is conducting the milling process before the paving work begins. The hours of work will be 7pm to 6am, Sunday through Thursday.
Please drive carefully and allow yourself extra time during this project.
Also, in road work news, Tennessee Department of Transportation crews are busy this time of year patching potholes on state highways and bridges. Winter weather extremes always lead to an increase in potholes in Tennessee.
State officials are asking drivers to work with the Department of Transportation by moving over and slowing down when you see TDOT crews working on the highways and bridges. State law requires motorists to move over or slow down for emergency, maintenance and construction vehicles or face a fine of up to $500.
To report a pothole, visit the TDOT website.
