The CHS Soccer team exploded for 5 second half goals to dispatch Lawrence County and celebrate a homecoming, of sorts, for the soccer program.  Competing on their still unfinished home field for the first time in nearly 2 years, the Lady Raiders were able to finish strong as they netted 4 goals in the final 20 minutes for the 5 to 1 win.  The Lady Raiders controlled the match from the onset as they held Lawrence County to only 2 shots on the match.  The Lady Raiders were able to fire off 27 shots as nine different Lady Raiders were able to get shots on frame.  Holli Smithson netted 2 goals for Coffee County to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game honors.  Coffee County also got goals from Maclay Brandon, Lexie Roberts and Caitlyn Moore.  The Lady Raiders evened their district record at 2 & 2 with the win as they won their 4th match in the last five.  The Lady Raiders travel to Franklin County on Thursday to take on the Rebels.  That match will kick off at 7:00 PM.

Coffee County Middle School head coach Brock Freeze talks to his team following their 18 to 6 win over North Franklin on Tuesday night

The CCMS football team celebrated homecoming in grand style on Tuesday night as they outlasted North Franklin 18 to 6.  With injuries in the Red Raider backfield, Josh Sanders stepped up in a big way scoring a touchdown and a 2 point conversion to lead Coffee County.  Weston Hargrove added a one yard TD run and a 2 point conversion of his own.  The Red Raiders added a safety in the first half as North Franklin muffed a snap while in punting formation.  The Raiders improved to 5 and 1 on the season and 3 and 1 in conference play.  The Raiders will travel to McMinnville on Tuesday for a noon game with Warren County for their “In-School” game.

It took 5 sets, but the CHS volleyball teams kept their district record perfect on Tuesday night at Columbia.  After dropping the first set 25 to 19, the Lady Raiders rallied for 2 set wins, 17 & 18, before an epic 27 to 25 loss in the 4th set setting up a deciding 5th game.  Despite the previous set loss, the Lady Raiders rallied for the deciding 15 to 11 set win to drop the defending district champion Lions on their home floor.  Making the victory even sweeter was a 2 sets to 1 victory for the JV Raiders over Columbia as well.  The Lady Raiders will return to the Joe Frank Patch Gym on Thursday as they play host to District 8AAA rival Lincoln County.  That match will begin at 6 and Thunder Radio will bring you the broadcast beginning at 5:50.

The CCMS Volleyball team traveled to Lincoln County on Tuesday to take on South Lincoln in volleyball action on Tuesday.  The Lady Raiders could never get on track offensively falling in straight sets 25-20 and 25-17.  The loss was the first for the Lady Raiders since August as the Lady Raiders record stands at 10 and 4 on the year.  The Lady Raiders will be off until Thursday, September 25th when they play host to Harris Middle.

New Grundy County Sheriff Demands Audit and ATF Check Of Evidence Room

Grundy Co. JailThe new Sheriff in Grundy County is conducting an internal audit. This, comes after a TBI investigation into the department back in March under the watch of former Sheriff Brent Myers.
That investigation ended up with former deputy Deke Mathew Stone facing official misconduct charges in July and one count of theft under $1,000 dollars. The TBI says Stone took three handguns from the evidence lockup. Officials said he had left his job with the department before the TBI began their case in August. Sheriff Clint Shrum was officially sworn into the office as Sheriff, September 1st. He is wasting no time to initiate the internal investigation and says an evidence room audit is necessary.
Over the next several months, deputies will be working with ATF agents to run an E-Trace check on the 329 guns stored in the evidence room.
Sheriff Shrum added, “We may have some that were stolen that need to be returned to the owners, we may have some that are a part of cases current and we may have some that need to be disposed of and so that’s why we brought the ATF in to make sure we maintain the integrity of the cases”.
The Sheriff says he is also working to assign new patrol zones North and South of the county to decrease emergency response times. Officials say the audit will be a long tedious process. At this time it’s unclear exactly how long it will take for the ATF agents to finish. (WRCB-TV)
