12/17/14 —- John Richard O’Connor

flower 13Beloved father, grandfather & great grandfather, John Richard O’Connor, 78, born in Somerville, MA and resident of Titusville, FL died on December 13, 2014 with his family at his side.

He is survived by his three children: John & wife Debbie O’Connor of Manchester, TN, Raymond & wife Patricia O’Connor of Manchester, TN, and Janet & husband Doug Baker of LaPlace, LA, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren with two on the way and a host of nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Nell Snow O’Connor, his parents, John & Helena O’Connor and granddaughter, Shannon O’Connor.

He was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

A visitation wil be held at North Brevard Funeral Home Tuesday, December 16, 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

The funeral Mass will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mims, FL on Wednesday, December 17 at 10:00 AM followed by the burial at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Lady Raiders Win, Raiders Fall in Fayetteville

basketball 6Tuesday night high school basketball action had Coffee County traveling to Fayetteville. The Lady Raiders had a difficult time in the first half falling behind 27-17 at the break. After halftime Coffee County found their shooting touch and was able to come from behind and defeat Fayetteville, 47-41. Cameron Davis and Sara Brown were named Co-Gateway Tire and Service Center players of the game. Davis finished with 16 points, 12 in the 2nd half and Brown had all 9 of her points in the 2nd half. Holli Smithson added 12.
The Lady Raiders will play Thursday-Saturday in a tournament at Murfreesboro Hollaway School.
The boy’s game did not go well for the Raiders and they fell behind in after one quarter 21-6 and trailed 49-17 at the half. Fayetteville’s Nicholas Hopkins had 30 points in the first two quarters.
In half number 2 Fayetteville continued its onslaught walking away with a 72-37 win.
Addison Carter led Coffee County with 11 points and was named the player of the game. Hopkins, who only played 4 minutes of the 2nd half finished with 35 for Fayetteville.

The Raiders will host a 3-day tournament on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday at the Joe Frank Patch Gymnasium.

Red Raider Signs To Play College Golf

Last night at Willowbrook golf course, Coffee County senior Jacob Prater signed a scholarship to continue his academic and golf career at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. Prater was a captain on this year’s Raider golf team and was named All-District and earned a berth in the TSSAA state championship tournament in October of this year.
Tennessee Wesleyan competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or NAIA. The Bulldogs are the pre-season 20th ranked team in the nation and under the direction of 8th year Head Coach Mike Poe. Tennessee Wesleyan finished 10th in nation last season.
Prater received other offers but thought this was the best fit for him.

Tullahoma Shooting Suspect Captured In McMinnville

The Tullahoma Police Department has arrested 20-year-old, Samuel Pace, Jr., who resides in Summitville, TN, for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred at 509 Campbell Ave. in Tullahoma, TN during the evening hours of Sunday, December 14, 2014.  Tullahoma Police were dispatched to 509 Campbell Ave. shortly after 9:00 p.m. Sunday in reference to a subject having been shot.

Upon arrival Officers discovered the victim, Elton “Coty” Thomas, a 34-year-old who resides at the Campbell Ave. residence, had suffered a single gunshot wound to the face.  The responding officers found marijuana in the residence. Thomas was transported by ambulance to Harton Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

Investigators were called to the scene and as a result of the information obtained during their investigation, began to attempt to locate Samuel Pace Jr. The investigation continued through the night and throughout the day Monday. Several locations were searched Monday with the assistance of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and as a result it was discovered that Pace had been taken by a friend to a Motel in McMinnville, TN.

Inv. Dale Stone, of the Tullahoma Police Department, obtained a warrant charging Pace with Attempted First Degree Murder. Deputies with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department were then notified of Pace’s location and went to the Motel and made contact with Pace.  Pace however refused Officer’s initial requests to come out.  After negotiations with Pace failed, Warren County Authorities introduced a chemical irritant into the room and as a result Pace was taken into custody without further incident.

Pace is currently being held in the Coffee County Jail under a $150,000.00 bond and is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and is scheduled to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court on Thursday, December 18, 2014

An accident occurred Monday afternoon around 4pm on the Wattendorf Hwy near AEDC. According a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol a 2002 Nissan Sentra driven by 40 year-old Jesus Fernandez of Tullahoma was traveling on an unnamed road and continued through a stop sign, striking a 2008 Mercury SUV driven by 34 year-old Kristen Bryan of Manchester. Fernandez was the only person that was injured in the crash that caused heavy damage to both vehicles. He was transported by Coffee County EMS to United Regional Hospital for treatment and was given a citation for stop sign violation and no proof of insurance.
A 4-year old female was a passenger in the Bryan SUV and was not injured and was properly restrained.
Along with the THP and Coffee County EMS, AEDC Police and Manchester Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.

12/19/14 —– Jean Hollingworth

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Hollingworth, age 73, of Hillsboro, TN will be conducted Friday, December 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bob Jared officiating.

Interment will follow at Hillsboro Methodist Cemetery in Hillsboro, TN.

Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 Noon until time of services at 2:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Hollingworth passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.

She was born March 28, 1941 in Chattanooga, Tennessee the daughter of the late Raymond Lonnie Morrison and Vera Christine Stone Morrison. Mrs. Hollingworth and her husband, John T. Hollingworth and their family moved to Coffee County from Painesville, Ohio in 1977. Mrs. Hollingworth was employed with PCA Industries for many years and enjoyed collecting porcelain baby dolls and crocheting. In earlier years, she loved flower gardening and cooking for her family. Most recently, she loved to play bingo, with her friends at the nursing home. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

In addition to her loving husband, John T. Hollingworth, who recently passed away, September 8, 2014; she is preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Carolyn “Spooky” Williams, Sue Robinson, and Doris Flippo.

Survivors include three children, Ricky Hollingworth; Sharon Hollingworth Wilcox both of Hillsboro, TN; and Donna Hollingworth Jackson (Dennis Rogers) of Lynchburg, TN; three grandchildren, Racheal Gray (Coulter Gray) and Danielle Jackson and Chase Jackson; one great-grandson, Bryson Gray. Also surviving are three siblings, Wanda Lynch and Darlene Tracht ; and Mike Morrison and wife, Wanda of Chattanooga, TN and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

WILLIAMS, Frederica “Ricki”, age 63, passed away into rest on December 16, 2014 at home with her family by her side.

She had served as the Business Manager for the Coffee County Board of Education since May 29, 1985 and was a member of the Summitville Church of Christ.

Ricki was preceded in death by her father, the late Melvin Eugene Freeze; sister-in-law, Pamela Nobles Freeze and great niece, Kesley Marie Freeze.

She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Jarrell Freeze of Manchester, TN; daughter, Holli D. Avans and her husband Steve of Manchester, TN; brother, Gregory Eugene Freeze of Manchester, TN; four grandchildren, Cadan, Connor, Carson, and Corbin Avans; an aunt, Jean Nobles Freeze; four nephews, Stan & Laura Freeze, Gary Freeze, Brad & Priscilla Freeze and Russ & Audra Freeze; four great-nephews, Zachary Freeze, Wyatt Akers, Jacob Freeze and Kaden Freeze; four great-nieces, Katlynn Freeze, Karleigh Freeze, Kristlyn Freeze and Linley Freeze; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Tullahoma Resident Finds More Than Mail In Mailbox

mailboxAt approximately 9:30am, Tuesday morning, December 16, officers of the Tullahoma Police Department were dispatched to Adair Street in Tullahoma in regards to a suspicious item in a residential mailbox. Upon arrival, the officer determined the item was indeed suspicious and began measures to isolate the area and notify the Tennessee Highway Patrol bomb squad.
The TN Highway Patrol bomb squad and members of the TN State Bomb and Arson unit came to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. The Highway Patrol bomb technicians removed the object and transported it to the Arnold Air Force Base to safely destroy. An investigation will be conducted to determine the components of the object and whether it was a potential explosive device and a determination made as to further investigation. Officer Bob Looney was the initial officer on the scene and assisted by Lieutenant Ray Higginbotham.
The residents of Adair Street were permitted back into their houses at 2:30pm. There was minimal interruption of daily activities for the residents.
The Tullahoma Police Department will continue to investigate this incident and requests anyone having information to contact TPD at (931) 455-0530.

Gasoline Prices Come Closer To $2 Per Gallon In Tennessee

gas prices2Motorists are saving an average of $10 for a tank of gas compared to this time last year. Gasoline prices crept closer to $2 a gallon last week and nothing is slowing them down. Domestic oil supply is at a three decade high and forecast to keep growing. Meanwhile, the price of oil fell to its lowest level in five years.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded has fallen 35 cents in the past month, settling at $2.56 on Sunday. According to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report, prices are as low as $2.09 in Brighton, Tennessee.
“Tennessee motorists should begin seeing gasoline as low as $2 a gallon at various gas stations in the next couple days.
Last week, the price of oil fell below $60 a barrel for the first time since July 2009. West Texas Intermediate settled at $57.81 a barrel Friday, $8.03 less than the week before and the lowest closing since May 2009.
The average price is $2.36 per gallon in Tennessee. The low price in Manchester is $2.25 and in Tullahoma it’s $2.22 per gallon.

CHS Grapplers Split a Pair of Matches in Murfreesboro on Monday

The CHS Wrestling team traveled to Murfreesboro on Monday to take on Siegel and Franklin County in a pair of dual matches at the Siegel High School gym.  Against the host Stars, the Red Raiders got off to a rocky start losing their 1st four matches by pin fall and their 5th by a decision.  Owen Teague(wrestling at 132) got a win in the 6th match followed by a David Tate(138) pin in 65 seconds to give the red and black some momentum but the deeper Siegel team prevailed by a score of 61 to 18. Matthew DeLong(160) had the other pin for Coffee County.

Trailing 30 to 21 in the match against Franklin County, the Raiders closed out with 4 straight wins to earn the 45 to 30 win.  Austin Payne(182) got the late rally started as he pinned his opponent in 39 seconds to start the winning charge for Coffee County.  Joshua Tobitt(195) followed that up with a 48 second pin and Dustin Seals sealed the win with a pin in 75 seconds.  Brandon Baumstein(113), Joel Singleton(126), Jose Ruiz(145) and Trenton Garner(220) each got forfeit wins for Coffee County.  Owen Teague(132) got a 4 to 3 decision in his match to round out the scoring for the Raiders.

The Raiders will now break for the holidays as their next match will take place on January 3rd.  The Raiders travel to Stewarts Creek for the Redhawk Rampage.  Matches arescheduled to begin at 8 AM.
