Season Ends For Motlow Softball

Motlow (27-19-2) completed its first winning campaign since 2011, despite losing multiple players to injury and finishing the tournament with only 10 players available.
During tournament action Motlow upset nationally-ranked Columbia State.
Westwood Softball Earns Doubleheader Split on Monday
In a middle school softball doubleheader that took a week to complete, the Lady Rockets of Westwood got a split with Fayetteville City on Monday afternoon. Last Monday’s game at Westwood was halted due to darkness with the score tied at 20. The 2 teams agreed to resume the contest on Monday in Fayetteville prior to the regularly schedule game between the 2 teams. Sarah West reached base when she was hit by a pitch to lead off the 8th inning. After stealing second and moving to 3rd base on a passed ball, West was driven home by Alex Hershman to give Westwood a 21 to 20 win. Haley Miller was 4 for 6 in the extended game with 2 RBI while West and Hershman finished 3 for 4. Hershman had 4 RBI while West and Carlee Sullivan each finished with 3 RBI. In the 2nd game, Westwood battled back from a 5 to 1 deficit to cut the Tigers lead to 8 to 6 before a late rally pushed Fayetteville to an 11 to 7 win. The Lady Rockets banged out 9 hits as Danielle Baker led the way with 3 hits including a double. Alex Hershman was 2 for 4 with a double as well. The Lady Rockets will travel to Shelbyville on Wednesday for a 5 PM game with Liberty. The conference tournament is set to get underway on Friday at Fayetteville.

Anneta Shelton Daniel, age 85 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on May 4, 2015 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
Mrs. Daniel was Banking Manager with the Peoples Bank & Trust Company in Manchester for over 30 years and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Daniel in 2014; and parents, Richard Stanley Shelton and Minnie Louise Matlock Shelton.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Daniel Moore and her husband John of Manchester; two grandchildren, Jennifer Pittman and her husband Shane of Manchester and Patrick Moore and his wife Katie of Maryville, TN; four great-grandchildren, Meghan, Sarah and Hallie Grace Pittman and Hattie Jane Moore; two sisters, Frances Gunn (L.C.) of Manchester and Ann Banks of Normandy, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lady Raiders Power Past Columbia
Brianna Jones was dominant in a 13-strikeout performance. Jones allowed no earned runs and two hits.
Haley Hinshaw boosted her batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace the Lady Raiders. She also scored 3 times. Shelby Scrivnor knocked in 3 runs plus Taylor Barnes had 2 hits with an RBI and a run scored. Hinshaw was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.
Coffee County will play Lincoln County Tuesday afternoon at 5pm and you can hear the game live on Thunder Radio.
Lady Raider Tennis Claims District Team Tennis Title

A hard forehand off the racket of Lady Raider Alex Crossland struck the tape at the top of the net and eased across to give Coffee County their first district tennis team title this century on Monday afternoon. The Lady Raiders scored wins in 4 of their 5 singles matches to upset Shelbyville on their home court by a final of 4 to 1. Clinching the match in singles, Coffee County and Shelbyville did not need to play their doubles matches. In singles play, Crossland beat Shelbyville’s Sydney Cooper 9 to 7 in the #2 singles match. Carleee Reed of the Lady Raiders fell to Shelbyville’s #1 Keely Smith 8 to 1. Maddie Taylor defeated Aria Harwel 8 to 4 at #3 while Savannah Hodge also got an 8 to 4 win over Madison Brown at #4. Alli Shelton got the 4th win, playing at #5, mere moments prior to Crossland’s win by a final of 8 to 6 over Shelbyville’s Priscilla Morales. With the win, the Lady Raiders will advance to the Region 4AAA Team Tennis tournament on Thursday in Murfreesboro. Coffee County, making their first region appearance in more than 15 years, will take on Siegel at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro with matches starting at 4:00 PM.
Red Raider Soccer Advances in District Tournament
Four goals in the first 14 minutes propelled the Red Raider soccer team to a 6 to 0 win over Lawrence County on Monday night in the first round of the Region 4AAA soccer tournament. Breyer Taylor scored a pair of goals at the 9th and 10th minute marks to stake the Raiders to an early lead. Paco Barrera nailed a feed from Breyer Taylor in the 10th minute before Ernesto Gomez made it 4 to 0 at the 14 minute mark. Coffee County controlled the time of possession as Lawrence County never mounted an offensive threat in the match. First half goals from John Parigger and Abelen Barrera wrapped up the scoring for Coffee County as Coach Robert Harper emptied his bench in the 2nd half. With the win, the Red Raiders will play host to Shelbyville on Wednesday night. The match will kick off at 7:00 pm at the Raider Soccer Field behind the Raider Academy.
Middle School Golf Action from Monday
The Coffee County Middle School Red Raider golf team got a 41 from Austin Farris and a 46 from Josh Perry to squeak past Harris Middle on Monday afternoon, 196 to 197. Liberty finished 3rd while Westwood came in 4th. Matthew Hale got around in 47 for Coffee County while Jake Melton carded a 62. For the Rockets, Christopher Robinson and Nick Johnson each shot a 62. Reagan Chambers was the lone female golfer for Coffee County and she finished with a 76. Westwood and Coffee Middle will be back in action on Monday as they play host to Franklin County. Golfers will go off at 4 PM at Willowbrook Golf Club.
