CHS Tennis Sweeps Cannon County

The Coffee County Central High School tennis team finished off a busy first week of action with a pair of 7-0 wins over Cannon County on Friday. The Raider netters got their 2nd straight 7-0 double sweep over the Lion netters in Woodbury. Individual winners for the Lady Raiders were: Maddie Taylor, Ali Shelton, Makayla Morgan, Anna Harrell, Natalie Elzeer, Kara Roper and Jessica Barrera. The doubles team of Harrell and Morgan also blanked their Lady Lion opponents 8 to 0. In boys action, Jared Hu, Shlip Patel, Trevor Ivey-Bodman, Will Davis and Evan Harrell got singles wins while Grey Riddle and Reid Lawrence teamed up for a doubles win. The Raider tennis teams travel to Columbia in Monday for a district match with the Lion and Lady Lions. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 PM.

CCMS Softball Makes Run to Cookeville Tournament Finals

The Lady Raider softball team won 5 straight games on Friday and Saturday to advance to the finals of the Cookeville Middle School tournament on Saturday. Coffee Middle, riding a 10 game winning streak ran out of gas in the finals as they fell to Mt. Juliet to finish the weekend at 5 and 1. Over the course of the tournament, the Lady Raiders claimed wins over Prescott, Overton, Upperman, and 2 wins over Warren County. Grace Pippenger was the hitting star of the week-end as she was 10 for 13 with a home run and a pair of triples. Sarah West also had a home run on Saturday against Warren County. The Lady Raiders return to conference play on Monday in Winchester as they take on North Franklin. First pitch is set for 5 PM.

CCMS Tennis Falls in First Ever Match

tennis2The Coffee County Middle School tennis team held their inaugural tennis match on Friday in Lewisburg. The first year program struggled, as is expected for their first match. Luke Irwin provided the highlight of the day as he pushed his singles opponent to an exciting tiebreaker finish before falling to the more experienced Lewisburg team. The CCMS netters will host their 1st ever home match on Monday when they welcome Shelbyville to their home courts behind the Raider Academy. That match is set to begin at 4 PM.

CHS Soccer Has Strong Showing in Cleveland Tournament

After getting a 4 to 3 win over McMinn County on Friday night in the Cleveland Classic, the CHS soccer team struggled to duplicate that offensive effort on Saturday as they dropped a 2 nil decision to Walker Valley on Saturday morning. In the nightcap against the host Raiders, Cleveland found the back of the net in the last 5 minutes to grab a 3 to 2 win. Paco Barrera and Breyer Taylor each had a pair of goals on the week-end for Coffee County. Chase Harper and Miguel Medoza also added tallies on Friday night while Taylor Walker, Ben Reid and Taylor were credited with assists. The Raiders play host to Blackman on Tuesday night in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.

Raider Baseball Drops Saturday Game at Riverdale

CHS BaseballFour walks and 3 singles allowed Riverdale to plate 4 runs and knock off the CHS baseball team on Saturday evening in Murfreesboro. The Raiders scattered 5 hits around 5 walks offensively as they had runners in scoring position in 4 of the 7 innings.. Alan Rob scored on a Cade Giles ground out in the 4th inning for the Raiders lone run. Davis Green, who entered the game in relief in the 1st inning, pitched 5 2/3 inning of relief allowing no runs while striking out 4. The Raiders return to district play on Tuesday when they travel to Fayetteville to take on Lincoln County. That game will get underway at 6 PM.

CHS Softball Struggles at Hendersonville Tournament

An 8 to 4 win over Station Camp during pool play of the Hendersonville Commando Classic turned out to be the highlight of a tough weekend for the Coffee County CHS Lady Raider softball team. Coffee County, who was 1 and 5 on the weekend, was eliminated in the first round of the tournament by eventual champion Maryville as UT commitment Caylan Arnold held the Lady Raiders hitless. Tori Bell was 2 for 2 against Station Camp as she led the Lady Raiders in hitting on the weekend going 4 for 10. Coach Steve Wilder was disappointed with his team’s defensive performance noting the 13 errors committed on the weekend. Wilder did use the weekend to give a lot of kids playing time as 19 different Lady Raiders got at-bats and 4 different pitchers pitched for Coffee County. The Lady Raiders return home for a Monday night game with Lawrence County. That game will begin at 7 PM and Thunder Radio will bring you the broadcast beginning with the pregame show at 6:50.

Edna J. Rosson

flower 18Edna J. Rosson, age 75 of Normandy, Tennessee passed away, Saturday, March
19 at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma. No services are scheduled.

Mrs. Rosson, a native of Manchester, was the daughter of the late William
Sanford and Margaret Holt Eley. She was an inspector for Worth and then
worked at Oak Technical. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren
and working crossword puzzles. She was an animal lover and enjoyed her pet
dogs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers.

Mrs. Rosson is survived by one son, William Rosson of Manchester; one
daughter, Sandra Lewis and her husband, Charles of Normandy and five
grandchildren, Jennifer Rosson of Manchester, Heather Lewis of Normandy,
Zack Rosson of Chattanooga, Andrew Rosson of Manchester and Allana Rosson
of Manchester.

flower 11Mr. Henry Taylor Stevens, age 89, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Sewanee, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Foster and Ethel Crowe Stevens, brother, Edward “Toopie” Stevens; son, Sam Stevens; grandson, Josh Stevens.

He is survived by his children, Susan Williams, Jennifer (Daryll) Smiley, Denise Hill, Troy Stevens; brothers, Carl Stevens and Frank Stevens; sister, Pauline McCanless; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Monteagle First Baptist Church with Dr. Daryll Smiley officiating. There will be no visitation. Online condolences may be made at www.cumberlandfuneralhome.net.

flower vase 3Mr. Leiber Childress 76, of Winchester passed Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Willie Childress and Georgia Carro Childress. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Ray Childress, two sisters, Gloria Mischa Childress and a baby girl.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of many years, Charlotte Childress.

Two daughters, Tammy Childress of Nashville, TN; and Kimberly Childress of Winchester, TN;

Three sons, Stanley (Johnnie) Burnette, Troy Burnette, and Allen Burnette all of Winchester, TN.

Fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Sisters-in-law, Annie Faye Childress, Carrie Etta Brown, Ernestine Trimble, Arnell (Jerry) Horton, Deborah (Larry) Williams and Darlene (Lamont) Snipes.

Brothers-in-law, Charles Burnette, Freeman Burnett and Floyd Blackwell.

Aunt, Hazel Childress and Uncle, Elder Royce Hill

Two special nieces, Theresa Greer and Annette Bean and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.

Tullahoma Woman Pleads Guilty Aggravated Sexual Battery against a 10-year-old boy

Jail2Terry Fults, 36, of Twin Cedars Lane in Tullahoma, entered a guilty plea to aggravated sexual battery against a 10-year-old boy. The plea occurred last week in the Moore County courthouse.
The former elementary school substitute teacher will serve nine years in prison, she’ll be barred from having any contact with the victim; must register as a sex offender; and serve community suspension for life. There is the potential for a 15-percent reduction in jail time based on credits earned and retained.
Fults was charged on Oct. 29, 2014.
Fults had been working as a substitute teacher at Lynchburg Elementary School prior to her arrest.
According to court documents, Fults had sexual relations with the 10-year-old boy who was a student at Lynchburg Elementary School.
