Andersen, Ducks blank Predators in Game 3
Pete Weber’s Postgame Report
Frederik Andersen made 27 saves in his 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs debut, and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Nashville Predators 3-0 in Game 3 of their Western Conference First Round series at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday.
Andersen earned his second career playoff shutout and has a 15-7 postseason record. He started Game 3 after the Predators won the first two games at Honda Center with John Gibson in goal for the Ducks.
The Predators lead the best-of-7 series 2-1. Game 4 is Thursday in Nashville (8 p.m. ET; NHLN, FX-CA, TVA Sports 3, PRIME, FS-TN).
Jamie McGinn gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 10:05 of the first period, beating Pekka Rinne with a one-timer from the right circle. Predators defenseman Anthony Bitetto committed a turnover at the blue line to start the play. Chris Stewart controlled the puck and found Shawn Horcoff, who fed a wide-open McGinn.
Horcoff made his first appearance of the series, replacing Chris Wagner.
Rickard Rakell gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead at 11:33 of the second period on a redirection from the right circle. Defenseman Sami Vatanen made a hard pass from the point that Rakell redirected on the backhand through his legs past Rinne for his first goal.
Stewart made it 3-0 at 17:06, beating Rinne from the slot on a rebound. Center Ryan Getzlaf fed Stewart, whose original shot was stopped by Rinne. But Stewart was able to get to the rebound and backhand the puck past Rinne for his first goal.
Predators forward Craig Smith took two shifts in the first period and did not return. The Predators said Smith had a lower-body injury.
Nashville went 0-for-5 on the power play, managing seven shots on goal.
Game #4 is on Thursday night beginning at 7 PM. Thunder Radio will bring you all the action on the Fifth Third Bank/Nashville Predators Radio Network.
Braves Down Dodgers for 4th Straight Win
Alex Wood’s bid for a memorable homecoming was undone by his inconsistent command and a suddenly vibrant offense that helped the rejuvenated Braves claim an 8-1 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday night at Turner Field.
Tyler Flowers matched a career high with four hits and Jeff Francoeur notched his own multi-hit game for the Braves, who have won four straight since opening the season with nine consecutive losses. Flowers notched an RBI single in each of his three at-bats against Wood and Francoeur fueled a two-run first inning with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.
Wood, who spent most of the previous three seasons with the Braves, was burdened by two costly errors and the command issues he displayed while allowing six runs — three earned — over four innings.
Because he was pitching on short rest in place of the ill Julio Teheran, Braves starting pitcher Williams Perez lasted just 3 1/3 innings. Ryan Weber stranded the two runners he inherited in the fourth inning and limited the Dodgers to one run and three hits over 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
The Braves will take on the Dodgers on Wednesday and Thunder Radio will bring you that broadcast beginning at 6 PM on the Braves Radio Network

Transgender Bill Put On Hold
The sponsor of the so-called transgender bathroom bill has pulled the bill for the year.
Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mt. Juliet, was sponsoring the controversial bill in the House. She said Monday that the bill should be rolled until next year due to time constraints.
Lynn said lawmakers do not have enough time to address some of the issues with the bill. She said Gov. Bill Haslam expressed concerns about the timeline and implementation.
The bill would require students in public schools to use the bathroom and locker room of the sex on their birth certificates.
Lynn said after the attorney general released an opinion saying the state could lose federal funding if the bill passed, they began to look at the issue more closely.
Lynn said the majority of schools are already doing what the bill would require.
She said she and Haslam agreed there is not a legal problem currently and they don’t want to create one.
