Preds Top Flyers 2-1 in Shootout

Filip Forsberg got the tying goal midway through the third period and Ryan Ellis had the only score in the shootout, helping the Nashville Predators give the Philadelphia Flyers their second straight loss, 2-1 on Monday night.
The Flyers had won 10 straight before losing to the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
Nashville got its first win in extra time and Ellis his first successful shootout conversion this season. The Predators were 0-5 in overtime and shootouts.
Nashville’s Pekka Rinne stopped 31 shots, plus all three in the shootout. Steve Mason had 30 saves for Philadelphia.
Defenseman Andrew MacDonald scored for the Flyers midway through the first period.
After trailing 1-0 entering the third, the Predators tied it with 8:14 remaining when Forsberg planted himself in front of Mason and redirected a point shot by Matt Irwin for his fourth goal of the season.
Forsberg’s goal came on the Predators’ 22nd shot and ruined Mason’s bid for his first shutout since March 5.
Rinne, meanwhile, entered the game needing 11 saves to get to 12,000 in his career and he got there quickly, stopping 15 of 16 shots in the opening period.
MacDonald got his second goal of the season. Right wing Jakub Voracek threaded a backhand pass through two Predators to MacDonald at the right point. His shot appeared to hit Ellis in the arm, changed direction and bounced past Rinne.
The Flyers outshot the Predators 16-8 in the opening period and had a chance to double their lead early in the second when Predators defensemen Adam Pardy and Roman Josi took penalties 36 seconds apart. Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere rang a shot off the post and Mike Fisher blocked two shots to keep the Predators’ lead at 1-0.
Nashville had a chance to tie it midway through the second period when Claude Giroux clipped Craig Smith in the chin for a high-sticking double minor. The Flyers stopped all four shots during the power play to improve to 15 for 15 killing penalties in their last five games.
NOTES: Predators D P.K. Subban did not make the team’s trip to Philadelphia and sat out his second straight game with an upper-body injury. Veteran D Adam Pardy, recalled from AHL Milwaukee earlier in the day, took Subban’s spot in the lineup. Subban is doubtful for Tuesday night’s game against the Devils.
The Predators visit the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.  Face off is set for 6 PM CST and Thunder Radio will bring you the broadcast of the Nashville Predators Radio Network.

Monday morning Manchester Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Rodgers Drive. Manchester Fire Chief George Chambers said that firemen did an outstanding job at locating the fire, which was hidden in the attic space above one of the bedrooms. When crews entered the home, there was light smoke conditions and no heat from the fire.
Crews utilized thermal imaging cameras and were able to first locate the fire outside the house in the A/C unit and then inside one of the bedrooms in the attic space.
Fire Chief Chambers added that crews did a great job of protecting the room from water or further fire damage.
Manchester Police Department and Coffee County EMS provided exterior support.

On Saturday (December 17) Coffee County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Dwayne Mullins received a call of an alarm at Outback Sports at 209 Volunteer Court in Manchester. When Mullins arrived he found a door open at the warehouse. Sergeant Mullins was checking the office area when a male subject allegedly ran out of the office area and out a side door. Mullins gave chase and caught up with the subject and gave him a command to stop and the subject stopped and then started to come toward the officer. Mullins told the subject to get on the ground and the man complied.
Joshua William Gregory age 36 of Jarrell St in Shelbyville was arrested and charged with burglary. His bond was set at $10,000 and Gregory has a court date of Feb. 6, 2017.

Five People Arrested on Federal Warrants

According to information issued Friday by Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum, Grundy County deputies, Shelbyville police, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents have arrested five people on federal warrants on charges of conspiring to distribute drugs.
According to a report in the Chattanooga Times Free-Press, those arrested were Anthony Joseph Bosio, 43, and Jamie C. Sweeton, 41, both of Gruetli-Laager, Christopher Dean Land, 54, of Monteagle, Kenneth Britton, 38, of Whitwell, and Randy Stiefel, 52, of Coalmont.
Bosio was charged with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone; Land was charged with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and burglary of a pharmacy, and aiding and abetting; Sweeton was charged with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and burglary of a pharmacy; Britton was charged with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and Stiefel was charged with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and burglary of a pharmacy, according to Shrum.
Shrum said a break in the case first came on Sept. 22, 2015, when Robert F. “Bobby” Nunley II was arrested in Sevierville, Tenn., after the vehicle he was driving was identified as one of interest in an attempted pharmacy burglary at Lee’s Pharmacy in Sevierville.
Shrum said information from that case led to a search warrant at Nunley’s home and the identification of Nunley and others involved in a burglary at a Shelbyville pharmacy. Nunley was arrested and indicted in Kentucky earlier this year where he is currently incarcerated awaiting trial.
Shrum said the Monteagle Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the operation.
“This case is still very active,” Shrum said in the statement. “No further information will be released.”

President Barack Obama Signs Disaster Declaration

President Barack Obama has signed a disaster declaration to speed federal recovery aid to victims of the recent deadly wildfires in a hard-hit eastern Tennessee county.
A White House statement says the declaration is intended to expedite federal funding for Sevier County, where fast-spreading flames claimed 14 lives and damaged or destroyed more than 2,500 homes, businesses and other buildings.
The declaration is to allow for grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners back on their feet, according to the statement issued in Washington.
Several firemen from Coffee County helped fight the fires in East Tennessee.
