Ruth Haggard Peek was born on May 13, 1923 in Manchester. As the fourth child of Will and Mary Della Haggard, she spent her childhood in the Asbury and Ragsdale communities. She was employed by Start Union (the pajama factory) beginning at age fifteen. She married George Peek in 1941. When George was drafted into WWII, she moved with him to various army training camps at first alone and later with their infant daughter. When he was deployed to Germany, she returned to Manchester and spend the next nineteen years as a homemaker and raising their four children. When he youngest son reached school age, she returned to work at PCA and continued working until 1990. After her retirement, Ruth took great pleasure in taking care of her home and large wooded yard. She loved to cook for her family, especially Sunday afternoon dinner meals, and entertained on many occasions with family reunions in her backyard. She was an excellent seamstress and during the last fifteen years of her life hand pieced and quilted numerous beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was a founding member of Forest Mill Baptist Church, and in later years was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

A special thank you to Dr. Stephen Bills (30 years) and Sun Crest Health Care, especially Physical Therapist Holly Johnson, for their excellent care and friendship.
