Westwood Wins Opening Game

Westwood Rocket boys and coaches

The Westwood Middle school boys played a very sound basketball game against a very good Community team on Monday (Oct. 15, 2012). The Rockets started quickly pulling to a 10 – 3 lead at the end of the first. Community battled back to make the count 12 – 10 Westwood at the half. In the second half the score went back and forth until late in the fourth. Down 1 with under 10 seconds to play Carlos Median drove to the rim and was fouled on the shot. He calmly went to the line and made both free-throws to give Westwood a one point lead with 7 sec to play. Community attempted a long last second shot that came up short. The Westwood boys start the season with a solid victory.
Rocket Head Coach Will Pannell said after the game, “I am very pleased with the way we battled tonight. It was back and forth against a very tough Community team. I am pleased with how the boys responded. We have a lot of things to work on and improve but we are all very happy with this win.”
Westwood will travel to Moore Co. Thursday night.
