Temple Baptist Volleyball Claims Tournament Title

The Lady Eagle varsity volleyball team of Temple Baptist Christian captured the title of the Lady Eagle Invitational on Friday.  Temple finished the tournament with a 6 and 0 record.  Temple captured the tournament title with a pair of match wins over South Haven of Springfield.

In pool play, the Lady Eagles opened with a 2 set win over Victory Baptist of Shelbyville.  Temple won by set scores of 25-16 and 21-8.  In the pool play final, the Lady Eagles topped Madison Baptist out of Alabama in straight sets.  Temple won by set scores of 25-13 and 25-12.

In the championship bracket, the Lady Eagles opened up with a straight set win over Dogwood Christian of Georgia.  Temple captured the straight set win by set scores of 25-14 and 25-11.  In the quarterfinals, Temple swept Anchored out of Bowling Green, Kentucky by set scores of 25-9, 25-9.  In the winner’s bracket finals, Temple beat South Haven in 2 sets.  The Lady Eagles won by set scores of 25-15, and 25-13.  In the finals, Temple needed 3 sets to capture the title.  The Lady Eagles won by set scores of 25-21, 12-25 and 15-4.

The junior varsity team ended up with a 4th place finish.  Ruby Lawson was named to the JV all-tournament team.  For the varsity team, Grace Butler and Lexie Stewart were named to the all-tournament team.  Rachel Butler was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Temple returns to the court on Saturday when the travel to Murfreesboro for a varsity/JV doubleheader.  The Lady Eagles will take on Franklin Road Christian in the road match.  First serve is set for 11 AM.
