Red Raiders Win and Girls Fall To #1 Cannon County

Coffee County welcomed Cannon County to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial gymnasium last night in non district basketball action. In the girl’s game, Coffee County welcomed the #1 team in the state in the AP Class AA rankings released on Monday. In a game where neither team led by more than 4 points, Cannon County nipped the Lady Raiders by a final of 41 to 38. Alaina Lusk was the leading scorer for Coffee County as she netted 14 points. Ginny Claybourne added 12 points as 8 of the 9 players that dressed for Coffee County scored on the night. Coffee County’s record fell to 7 and 10 on the year with the loss. For their team effort, team defense and overall team performance, the entire team was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.

In boys play, Coffee County closed out the 2nd quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 19 to 17 lead into the half. Using that momentum, Coffee County pushed their lead to 11 after 3 quarters and hit 21 of 24 free throws on the night, to capture the 61 to 49 win over Canon County. Lance Chrismond and Lucas Chrismond each scored 21 points to pace the Coffee County offense on the night and improve the Coffee County to 6 and 10 on the year. Lucas Chrismond was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.
Coffee County travels to Coalmont on Tuesday night to take on Grundy County. The girls game will tip off at 6 and can be heard here on Thunder Radio beginning with the pregame show at 5:50.
