Coffee County’s Peyton Talley looks to pass the ball against Smith County on Friday morning at Cannon County.

Coffee County’s Wyatt Day sinks a free throw against Smith County on Friday morning at Cannon County.
On a day when the Coffee County CHS Red Raiders drained eight 3 pointers, it was the twelve 4th quarter free throws by Smith County that derailed the Red Raiders on Friday morning in Woodbury by a final score of 64 to 57. Coffee County, who played the first game of the Mitch Wilson State Farm Classic at Cannon County, woke up with a hot shooting touch as six 1st half 3 pointers had the Raiders and the Owls tied at 33 at the half. 3rd quarter turnovers and Smith County offensive rebounds got the Raiders in an 8 point hole to begin the 4th quarter but some beautiful half court offense cut the deficit to 2 points with under 4 minutes to play. At that point the Owls proceeded to sink 12 of 15 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Those 12 free throws were the last 12 points of the game for Smith County. Talley led Coffee County with 20 points while Day finished with 19.
On Saturday afternoon, day two of the classic, the Cookeville Cavilers defeated Coffee County 58-30 in Woodbury.
Both the girls and boys basketball teams will travel the long road to Lawrence County on Tuesday night. Thunder Radio will have the broadcast starting at 5:50pm. Thursday night the Raider teams will be at home against Grundy County and Saturday they travel to Cannon County.
