Things were looking good for Coffee County on Friday night as the Red Raiders jumped to an early lead over Rhea County. In the home opener Coffee County got on the scoreboard first when Jimmy Hollandsworth connected with Cody Howes on a 71-yard TD pass to take a 6-0 advantage. The bad news, the Raiders would not score again falling 42-6 to the Eagles.
Rhea County returned almost all their starters from last year’s team that made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. The run defense of Raiders played well and forced the Eagles to pass the ball and it worked out as Noel Patterson caught two touchdown passes. He also returned a punt for 53-yards for his 3rd TD.
Jimmy Hollandsworth led the Raiders offensively with 110 yards passing. On defense Thomas Buholzer had 8 tackles and a sack and that earned him the Gateway Tire & Service Center player of the game.
